I completely agree-patience is key. But as you said, creativity is like a muscle: you need to train it and be patient with the results. I also think you're right that you don’t need to upload every single day. Take someone like @gawxart, for example-he’s brilliant and doesn’t post daily, but he’s likely working on his creativity almost every day behind the scenes. I totally understand that fear-it’s something I’ve struggled with too, and it’s one of the reasons I haven’t kept uploading, even without much experience. I know it’s a process where you feel vulnerable, but for me, the "shock effect" approach works well: exposing myself directly to that fear. Of course, it has to be at your own pace, just like you said, but without letting those fears become the main obstacle. Keep going! I really enjoyed your first video and love your attitude!

@@EndIess-Ascent that’s interesting. 🧐 I’d like to hear more on this. I’m making another video right now on how to get into a routine as an artist. Talking about time management and all that. 100% I'm going to start doing my schoolwork more consistently and without music in the background. I'm barely scraping by in college rn and I know I could get straight A's if I just stopped putting a YT video on in the background. I've only got two concerns tho, 1. I'm a broke college student, so I'm wary about the price of the brick and 2. I'm am android user. I'll look into both of those problems, but here's hoping I can fix this without them
@alex-boke17 күн бұрын
@@MisterSeñorBattles damn yeah I don’t know if it’s available for androids yet. Maybe get a cheap older iPhone to use as more as a dumb phone? And delete all apps on your android? Money can feel like it’s tight sometime in the present moment, but allowing yourself to break free from an addiction and get straight A’s will pay dividends in your future. Not telling you to spend money and buy shit, but to invest in yourself if you really believe it could help you out. Takes a lot of self control, I’m not gonna lie..but it works. You can also go in on it with friends or family because there’s no limit of how many people can use it at the same time. Thanks so much for watching! 🫶🏼

@@alex-boke No problem I looked into the android version and signed up for an email list of both beta testing and ready to purchase notifications. I technically have an older iPhone, but it's an iPhone 4S, so I don't see that working with Mint anytime soon 😅. I would delete all the apps on my Android (Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G), but I've already done that for the one app that sucked the time out of my day: KZbin. Since it's inescapeable to use (what with my music, my sleep playlists, my meme playlists, and all), my childhood friend recommended a 3rd-Party app called NewPipe. It's basically YT, but without two major things: Recommendations and An Account. You can still sub to channels and make playlists, but they aren't tied to a KZbin account, they're just tied to your app locally on your phone. It's honestly done a great job keeping me off of KZbin and disincentivizing subscribing to Premium. I put screen time limits on a few apps, namely my browser (Vivaldi) and Pokémon TCGP. My browser: because anything I need to search on their can be done on my laptop or PC and not while I'm sitting on the toilet doing nothing but getting lost in rabbit holes of fan wiki pages. PTCGP because I just got introduced to the app by a coworker two weeks ago and I'm already miles ahead of her from constant play lol. I'm setting a limit before that app becomes problematic too, on or off the toilet. While I'm grateful for Autism making certain things easier, sometimes I get bitter about how my most impacted area is Executive Functioning (basically the ability to make good short term decisions that can or will lead to good long term decisions [getting gas, paying bills, limiting screen time, not procrastinating, etc.]) but I just try to remember that this is not insurmountable and that, if it weren't for my diagnosis, I might not have been smart enough to get into private college in the first place.

100% Great video man. The visuals and story telling go together perfectly! As for your question at the end of the video, I nearly lost my life 6 years ago and had a lot of time to myself to recover. For my first month in the hospital I didn’t have my phone with me. I realized how important it was to face reality, be alone with my intrusive thoughts and the face the fears i had while I was there. As I recovered and gained back my phone, I realized that mindless scrolling didn’t lead to me feeling better. So since then I block off the first hour in the morning for prayer and exercise. And the last couple hours of the day for reading, journaling or spending time with my wife. In between while I don’t have that brick device, I do block addictive apps which allows me to focus on work. Cheers to you for this video. You’ve gained a sub from me!

Great Job Alex!! I love this story. I occasionally doomscroll on facebook and youtube. I hit a turning point when I read Aldous Huxley's Amusing Ourselves to Death, which is a terrific book about the societal toll of television on the attention economy. What books have you read that inspired this decision? Or was this self-idealized? Thanks a ton! Cheers, man.
@alex-bokeАй бұрын
Thank you! I'll try to get my hands on that book! Thanks for the recommendation. During and before this experiment, I read "Keep Going" from Austin Kleon, "The Creative Act" by Rick Rubin and "zen and Art of motorcycle maintenance" ...they all inspired me in different ways. But I also had a book open doing my research about self discipline, not even sure if that book is actually published, but it helped me the titles of each act in my video and what I was going thru during these 90 days. I wanted to do a digital detox for a while and it was time to do it for real this summer. Glad I did it!

You really made the message clear that you can make amazing pieces of art like this if you put your screen time hours towards something more productive.
