I'm not a chemist but I love watching chemistry videos. I'm more of a maker. Some chemistry knowledge for anodizing, cleaning, oxidizing and coloring metals and giving them patinas, the chemistry knowledge can come in handy though. A tip from a maker.. Step drills are awesome for drilling holes in thin metal like cans. They don't tear the cans and you get nice round holes. Should make for much easier sealing. There's a discount tool store chain around here where you can get a set of three different sized ones for 15 bucks. So they're not terribly expensive and will definitely make your life a little easier if you do any more can distillations in the future and need a nice round hole.

Great video! One thing that sticked out to me, was the teflon tape in the distillation setup. Tefon isn't meant for for high temperatures (>260c) and will offgas fumes potentially worse than the benzene (HF, TFE, PFIB, etc.)

Oh right, yes you are absolutely correct about that. I'll make a change of plans in future videos where I do this, thank you so much for telling me this! :)

thank the algorithm that suggested your channel! at 6:30 you are mixing the two powders by shaking them in a ziplock bag, could you maybe show how well that works for mixing things, perhaps by using differently coloured substances?

You are somewhat right though, on the scale from deionized water to sulfur mustard/those crosslinking agents that lowkey are just *you will get cancer* this isn’t THE WORST carcinogen. Still though BTEXs are obscenely common given how bad they are and widespread usage in things like automotive can give you chronic exposure if you aren’t careful.

0:30 Cinnamaldehyde has a slightly altered structure to benzene, but you nasally sample that quite safely every time you eat a hot cross bun lol, so: aromachemicals proceeding from petroleum are not benzene. Regarding your presentation, you give all the other DIY chemistry channels a run for their money, including NileRed. Excellent service to the chemistry industry! 7:16 ..."nice"??? 😮 Excellent. Cellulose gets dehydrated by sulphuric acid, leading to carbon (that’s why you got the black colouration), polystyrene does not. Also, cellulose is hydrophilic, so it gets rapidly soaked with the piranha solution, which increases the rate. Polystyrene is hydrophobic, so it is not well wetted by the solution. That also explains why the reaction was more vigorous and fast with cellulose and starch samples having large surface areas, such as cotton and the corn flakes.

@CarbonTwelve12 maybe, try the new fad of Gotu Kola (Cica plant) and extract it's triterpenpoids which are all the hype in the world of skincare. It would be one of a kind video where Asiatic Acid, Asictocoside, Maccedsoside, Maccadesic Acid could be extracted. They're all easily extractable using a Soxhlet or an Ultrasound assisted extraction. The herb would would available at any Indian Ayurvedic store of barely a $1 or $5 for enough dried powdered form to extract these. This way, those trying to make cica extracts would ponder on it, also make shorts of the same video, directing people how it can be done elaborately on your channel. Thank You again.

Dry the used egg shells as you acquire them. Set them on the pilot light of the stove. Trade them out every breakfast. PUt the dry shells in blender... make powder. Store powder in used coffee cans or jars. Sprinkle the powder on the garden dirt when the plants are green. This kills Japanese Beetles before they come out of the ground. No need for fuss or mad scientist experiment.
@CarbonTwelve12
@CarbonTwelve12 12 күн бұрын
Yes, I like that way. Apparently calcium acetate is a better nutrient for plants though as in this form they can absorb it better. You could in the end just grind up the shells if you don't want to get into the fuss of this experiment, and if it does the job then I'll go with it lol. Thanks :)
