I don't have any experience birding the Gulf Coast, but I believe that first rail is a Clapper.
@robertecarpenter
@robertecarpenter 6 ай бұрын
vireogilvus, you are probably right. I was lulled into this identification by an "expert" who was there with his entourage when i saw this bird and he called it a Virginia Rail. For differential identification ... All About Birds says, "Clapper Rail is larger than Virginia Rail with less distinct barring on the flanks and a paler bill." Birdwatching Academy says, "Virginias are much smaller in size, with more reddish bills. They also have more distinctly gray cheeks." With no comparison available, I still am not sure which one it is.

well, I'm certainly open to being wrong, and like I said, I have no experience in that neck of the woods. But to me it looks big and fairly pale/muted, and the call seems "off" compared to the Virginia's I'm used to@@robertecarpenter

hello Robert, stunning shots in 4K. the slow motion shots are also 4K or HD? I once tried the Panasonic 1500. I liked it but was greatly disapointed by the image quality at wide angle! a very soft, almost blurred image. perhaps it was related to that paricular camera? but I saw some similar comments on the internet. how is it with your camera? thank You Guy

Hello Guy, Thanks for your gracious comment. I have had to quit birding because of health problems (3 kinds of heart surgeries, 3 knee surgeries + nosocomial infection, 3 cases of COVID all in 12 months) and a wife who can no longer travel. Bummer. I just retired from 55 years of dentistry and thought I was going to really get to see some birds. The panasonic was disappointing in low light so I seldom used it back when I was shooting videos. The slow-motion videos are difficult … they require bright sunlight to get decent (1080 maybe) resolution. All slow-motion videos are shot on the Sony RX10iii or iv. You might like my video of Life In Slow Motion at kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZaYdmyDaa93pac . I also have a lot of 4K bird, butterfly, dragonfly etc videos on my channel. Watching this video again. Trying to figure out?? What kind of 🐦🦜 birds am I seeing 👁️👁️👁️👁️ on my property. Here in Houston, Texas. I've seen some cute little birds 🐦🦜. Year after year. I've tried to pay more attention to them in the winter ❄️❄️ time. When I can see 👁️👁️ them better on the trees. They are small . Brownish with a touch of greenish. I thought they were some kind of warblers???🤷 But they are so cute 💕 and beautiful to look at. Sometimes I pause when I'm working on my yard just to look at them.🦜🦜.

Crystal. Houston is a great place for birdwatching. Make sure you go to High Island (about one hour up the coast from you) during the Spring migration (March - May). It is literally one of the best places in the world to see lots of birds. Your little greenish job could be a female painted bunting, or a Tennessee warbler. There are numerous good apps available for smart phones. i recommend iBird pro. Rob

@@marceld8961 I can definitely empathize with your apprehension. I moved to Texas from Arizona, which doesn't really have any natural disasters (except for perpetual drought/flash floods). I was especially nervous about tornadoes, but I've come to realize that the tornadoes here are nothing like the tornadoes in places in Oklahoma (which are the ones the portrayed in movies). The duration of Texas tornados tend to be pretty short, and they don't usually travel nearly as far as they do in "tornado alley" states. I've been in Texas for five years, and I've gotten used to the dozen or so yearly tornado warnings issued in my area. I'd say the hardest thing, weather-wise, to deal with has been the allergies and the constant hot/cold temperature fluctuations. Don't be scared, the odds are in your favor. As long as you don't end up on the coast, having to deal with the constant threat of hurricanes and flooding, it's all good.

@@marceld8961 Also, about the Africanized Bees, that is a real thing. My husband was, and his crew, were swarmed a couple years back. However, they were all able to outrun the bees, they managed to dive for cover in their trucks. Husband said they were able to outrun them because they heard the loud buzzing before they even saw them. So if you hear sudden loud buzzing, find cover ASAP!

Thank you for adding to this study. It’s fascinating and wonderful that we each have the DNA of Jesus in our very cells. I’ve been looking up “by the breath of His mouth” where He can bring life or death, as in Job and 2 Thessalonians. The things He can do are beyond comprehension.

Thanks Sunshine!!! Thanks for the wonderful tip on "Breath of His mouth". I had missed that because I read the old King James which says, "By the Spirit of His mouth". @@sunshine2528 I love Bible Hub. I have probably used it 15 or so times tonight (maybe 40 or so times per week) working on tomorrow's lesson. Blue letter Bible is great. I spent a lot of money years ago on Word Search before all these good freebies were available. I am so familiar with it that it is my "go to" Bible program. Yes, all of those changes are interesting. Many of them though are not faithful to the Hebrew and Greek manuscripts. I like the translations that try to go word for word. I don't like the idea of inserting an idea or phrase for obvious words when there is a good literal translation. God is a "Word" Person. He named His Son "The Word". It does not say, "In the beginning there was the idea and the idea became flesh"! In the beginning was "The Word".
