All you have to do to illustrate the basic southern accent is to say "suuuthen accent" just like you did. You summed it up in that one word. good job.

I think he was directed to do the accent to the point of being borderline gibberish from time to time. And Gambit in the comics spoke both English and Cajun French, so part of the stuff Channing was saying was intentionally really old-fashioned heavily slurred Cajun French. I know there were some lines they had him do several times cause with the direction to make the accent intentionally harder to understand.

@@GTO_CALI'm not from there, but I feel like I've heard enough people from Louisiana talk of different ages to know the accent he did was very extreme and pretty old fashioned. Kinda like how round here on the west coast, we've got a good amount of second and third generation Mexican and Asian immigrants who don't speak fluent Spanish or Japanese/Chinese/Vietnamese etc. I got the gist that the average Louisiana native who is under the age of at least 40 doesn't speak with that much of a blend of Cajun French. At least that's how I saw it

The actual New Orleans accent sounds very much like what people would call the New York or New Jersey accent. I know the boroughs have their own different twang like the south does but I would equate it to a Brooklyn accent and is what a lot of people that are from New Orleans sound like. both places had a lot of Italian immigrants at the same time.

Some people want to promote their Nationalist propaganda to attack people and languages that are not Anglo-Saxon English. Cajun French and Cajun English are a great asset to the United States of America. Let's keep it going.

She is speaking Cajun English, not French. She is speaking English with a Cajun accent. She is talking about people that speak English with a Cajun accent. Accent deals with pronunciation of words. The language is English. The Cajuns in Southwestern Louisiana were forced to give up their French language, by the U.S. federal government in 1911, to force assimilation. Later the Louisiana state government put it into the state constitution. No more Frence ! Just absurd laws to attack a culture. Beautiful people with a wonderful language.

❤ Bonjour, ma blond ! ❤ Anyway, Cajuns speak two separate languages, if they can anymore. They most all can speak Cajun English or just plain English like everyone else in the USA. Cajun English is just what she is speaking, dem, dat, dare ( like ova dare for over there. ) English with a different pronunciation. Older Cajuns can speak the Louisiana French of their Accadian ancestors, from Nova Scotia. They were Canadian French people who spoke French. They originated from Western France, so they spoke French. And they spoke French in Nova Scotia. And they speak French in Southwestern Louisiana to this day. There is just so much prejudice in the USA against any language other than English. So much has been done to stop the Cajuns from speaking Louisiana French. It's just a miracle that anybody in the USA speaks French. Universities in the USA only attempt to teach Metropolitan French from textbooks. This is known as textbook French or written French. I am sure most of the teachers or instructors do not speak French. They speak English and can usually read some French from their textbooks. How else are they going to teach what they can, to students who don't know that their teachers have so little knowledge of the spoken French language. Universities, step up ! Don't waste your time, and that of the students in this half assed teaching attempt. Hire some real teachers, native speakers. They all went to school forever in France, and they know French as any native does. Step Up ! It's not that difficult.
