I had fun when I did it. I actually enjoyed it. Sure, it was challenging, but I learned great info. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Semper Fi!

I joined in 2003 before the war in Iraq started. Went to boot camp September that year. The crucible was the hardest part of boot camp for me. It was so freaking exhausting. They had us do the obstacle course over and over again and every time somebody would fall off, you would have to fireman's carry them around the course. The guy that I was paired up with kept falling off and I don't know how many times I carried his a**around that course. After that, we did about a half mile run over to a simulated down helicopter that had a bunch of equipment in it. We had to take all that equipment and carry it to another location which was miles away. Ever so often, the drill instructions will tell us that one of our guys got injured and we had to carry them. It was pretty miserable and I was so sleep deprived I don't remember a whole lot about it. I just remember it being very miserable, wet and I was so ready to be done with it.

Went to PI as recruit in 87 before the crucible was part of boot camp. Went back in 97 as series commander as a 1stLt which was maybe a year or two after it was implemented. I think it was a great addition to the program of instruction and culmination of transition from recruit to Marine. Even the Navy seemed to agree and developed their own recruit training capstone exercise called “battle stations” as a passing out evolution.

I’m 72 years old and I’m a Marine Corps veteran of 30 years service. I’m proud to say that I was in the Engineer Battalion that built the Crucible obstacles. I also had the honor of attending the Eagle, Globe and Anchor Ceremony. I don’t mind saying that there were tears of pride to see these young Marines. Semper Fi, to you and all other Marines worldwide!!!🇺🇸 Oooorah!!

Any old jarheads out there with a better memory than mine? The Marine Corps didn't start calling this the "crucible" until the mid to late 1990's. We had something similar on P.I. (plt182) in 1969, but I can't remember what it was called. Even if it had an official name. I do still have a very clear memory of receiving my EGA. What a moment. Semper Fi Marines.

I went in 96 is it just me or was it harder for us back in the day. We didn’t get any EGA or get called Marines until we graduated. I know we didn’t have the crucible we had a two day thing without sleep but I feel we had it rougher just like they guys before us in the 80s had it rougher than us
