I’m 72 years old and I’m a Marine Corps veteran of 30 years service. I’m proud to say that I was in the Engineer Battalion that built the Crucible obstacles. I also had the honor of attending the Eagle, Globe and Anchor Ceremony. I don’t mind saying that there were tears of pride to see these young Marines. Semper Fi, to you and all other Marines worldwide!!!🇺🇸 Oooorah!!

My step daughter goes into the Crucible tonight. I'm proud of her, she's strong, she's smart and she's fierce. She surprised her mom and I with her decision to join the Marine Corps. It's what I wanted to do but was unable to foe reasons that were unexpected. This young woman left home nearly three months ago and not a day has passed where she was the main thing on my mind. I'm blessed she's in my life and the Corps is lucky to have her. She's my hero. I'm lighting our candle in 2 hours and it'll burn to help guide her back. Two more weeks and I'll get to shake her hand and cry tears of pride. Thank you all of you who've served this country and protected us all who call it home.

BAWLING like a baby. save your new Marine a bunch of grief. in make no big purchases until he finishes his specialty school. Remind him the only thing on his radar is doing well in his school. He isn't there to find a girl, buy a cell phone or laptop, NONE of that. the locals around him are circling like sharks to take advantage of new Marines loaded with $ and nothing close to wise spending habits. a clock radio and wristwatch are fine. Maybe a good set of running shoes is about it.

I can't tell you how much the Crucible makes you think, and reflect on everything you were physically trained to do I remember waking up at 0200, shivering, freezing, wondering why this had to happen, having our kits on didn't make it better, i then put on my black leather gloves but i was screamed at to take them off, so i stuck with the program until the son rose, waiting for that warmth It wasn't until we recieved our first story telling of a marine who died during combat, giving everything he had to defend his country That's when i reallized everybody else is fighting for the same purpose, so i shoved my weaknesses to the ground and suffered with everyone else, even helping those in need, thus how we ALL earned the title, Marine

My hands were so cold and wind chapped at one point, i couldnt open my MRE in the few minutes we were permitted to eat one day. I tried so hard as my dry knuckles cracked and bled. And then it was time to hit the road again. I was pissed. A boy learned to man up and be a Marine that day

I joined in 2003 before the war in Iraq started. Went to boot camp September that year. The crucible was the hardest part of boot camp for me. It was so freaking exhausting. They had us do the obstacle course over and over again and every time somebody would fall off, you would have to fireman's carry them around the course. The guy that I was paired up with kept falling off and I don't know how many times I carried his a**around that course. After that, we did about a half mile run over to a simulated down helicopter that had a bunch of equipment in it. We had to take all that equipment and carry it to another location which was miles away. Ever so often, the drill instructions will tell us that one of our guys got injured and we had to carry them. It was pretty miserable and I was so sleep deprived I don't remember a whole lot about it. I just remember it being very miserable, wet and I was so ready to be done with it.

Remember, this is just a phase in boot camp. The real fun begins when you get to your unit, especially of you are a grunt. Running up and down mountains with telephone poles, 5 to 8 mile runs, 25 to 30 mile marches with a pack will become routine and that is just the basics. Of course that was decades ago for me, but I guess it is still the same.

Bro you are so lame. Trained soldiers can handle the crucible but would get destroyed in a game of football. But I know back in our day it was much tougher and the DI’s would smack you around and punch you in the stomach and you better not say anything. We didn’t get our EGA or get called Marines u til we graduated. My respect to this new generation for the five day crucible but I know it was tougher back in the 90’s and of course even tougher for the generation before us.

Went to PI as recruit in 87 before the crucible was part of boot camp. Went back in 97 as series commander as a 1stLt which was maybe a year or two after it was implemented. I think it was a great addition to the program of instruction and culmination of transition from recruit to Marine. Even the Navy seemed to agree and developed their own recruit training capstone exercise called “battle stations” as a passing out evolution.
