I'll be honest, I got introduced to Djo through end of beginning because of tiktok, but I'm so happywith my decision of listening to the whole album because this is one of the greatest works of music ive ever heard in my life. On initial listen, the overall sound was something I was not use to listening, but it definitely intruiged me. And though i was not fully blown away after listening to the whole thing the first time, something inside me just compelled me to listen to it again and OMG I FELL IN DEEP LOVE WITH IT!!! Djo not only is the greatest songwriters of all time, but a damn good musician, given his ability to make you feel before hearing what he has to say in a song. I'm so grateful to had discovered him and cannot wait for more music from him and many more reactions from you, Nat! 🥰🥰🥰

Heard End of Beginning on a random spotify radio and stopped what I was doing to go like it and figure out which artist it was, a week or two later decided to just listen to the full album and ended up loving pretty much the whole thing - then right when I'm about to go to bed I google the artist and I'm like "wait a minute WHAT lmao", such a strong musician given he's known as an actor. Hope he keeps making music for a really long time.

Honestly, I'm very picky with music quality as I like genuine music crafts over recycled modern pop. But this album has been on repeat since I discovered his music. I absolutely love it!

Love, love, love Decide. My faves are Climax, Go for it, Gloom, Runner and End of Beginning (basically every songs in this album). This album is a gem, you just can't hit the skip button because all the songs are so good. Man, Djo is a genius songwriter as well as a musician.

I agree it feels like a goodbye to part of their career- I would say this is a very definitive goodbye to LA essentially, the nightlife, showbiz bubble, and music scene combined. When you strip it back Alex basically wrote the last two albums about LA- AM explored it’s nightlife and hookup culture, while Tranquility used a lunar resort as a metaphor for what I assume Alex found to be the increasingly suffocating showbiz bubble- but in 2020 he left after a decade (or maybe more I’m not sure) there, choosing instead to split his time between London and France. With this is mind, you could argue the nostalgia was at least partially triggered by his return to England after a long time living in America, while the long goodbye in my opinion relates to his life in LA, and the whole person he was there. Of course there has also been a significant goodbye in his personal life which clearly inspired some of the songs here. But I’d say generally this album is a withdrawal from the showbiz circles he’s been mixing in for the past decade or so. I don’t think Arctic Monkeys are retiring just yet, it’s more that he’s happy to make whatever music he wants in a more reclusive manner, whether it’s commercially successful or not. I’ve just realised how long this is aha.. apologises, I’m writing a dissertation on them atm so have lots of thoughts on this album. Also I envy you being able to walk around New York to this album, must be a pretty incredible vibe. Great video :)

Coming from someone who’s favorite album is Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino, this album definitely feels like a step backward for me. It’s not “bad” at all, and I love a lot of the ideas that it goes for, but as a complete package it feels a little unfinished and unfocused. Completely agree with you about the band not being represented as well as before. On Tranquility Base, it felt like they nailed that sweet spot of experimentation while still having the band shine through. The Car puts the strings and Alex’s voice up front across the entire thing, which gets old after a while for me. Anyway, I loved your format for this; it’s very honest and chill, which you don’t see much of with these types of videos. Idk if you’re open to requests, but it’d be awesome so see you check out Queens of the Stone Age. The album …Like Clockwork would be a great one to do. AM took lots of inspiration from them, and Josh Homme actually encouraged them to go more outside the box and switch up their sound for each album when he produced Humbug. P.S. As a former owner of a “cow cat”, I love your cow cat! Sorry for this whole-ass essay

I think the main problem is alex turner's amateur falsetto or his weird lyrics (tbhc also had them, but it was funny and memorable) in this now he's taking it seripusly and it doesn't work, i think is very pretentious. Also i don't like his Bowie kinda singing

amazing album and loved the reaction. to me my impression was similar to the last album. the concept of making a character who left earth i always wondered why. this album gives us some insight to what might have happened. the music and film industry arnt as beautiful as people think they are. and the soundscapes they create kind of show that. sculptures of anything goes, super dark and depressing moog bass. the music industry molding artists into what they want them to be. big idea, the orchestra has us all surrounded, the music industry is the orchestra drowning out the band. trying to control them and they fight throughout the whole album to shine through but the orchestra overwhelms. this album reminds me so much of bowie. making a statement through the music rather then making it obvious. i could be completely wrong ofcourse too haha

The "over and out" on big ideas is him commenting on how they change their sound each album, don't worry they're not going anywhere 😅, great reaction you were spot on with the film soundtrack comparison
@ricwheatley
@ricwheatley Жыл бұрын
Yeah, agreed. I read it as him saying I could have made the album the record label/parts of the fanbase wanted, but that would've been the end for him, doing that would have been the ballad of what could've been, but if he'd done that he wouldn't want to carry on, so that would have been over and out. Then in the second verse he's recognising that doing that would have brought adulation and sold out arenas and hysterical fan reactions, but again he wouldn't have felt like he'd accomplished anything, so doing that would have been the ballad of what could've been and again would be over and out for him.

ooooh this is a really interesting take, along with the replies to this. Yeah on first listen, as you can see, I was obviously worried, but what you're saying makes sense. They're still very actively creating and touring, so hearing "over and out" confused me, but if they're saying that only to their fans who are very attached to their original sound then that lines up! Thanks for the insight😎
