fyi. you can fit the thick 3000mAh battery into a slim backplate with an iflash quad, if you're willing to grind away the hdd holding pin behind the display. the only thing i had to change for that was the order of the assembly, with the battery being sandwiched in between the iflash quad and the motherboard.

I think I would prefer the fatter case for the overall for aesthetics and I do enjoy that I don't need to mess with the internals too much.

Great Repair video! <3, As someone who also owns a MZ-N510 you've got lucky since with my unit I had to replace the row of electrolytic smd caps, I'm unaware if it's a common problem with these devices if they were made during the capacitor plague or not. But I would also recommend replacing those at a future date.

@@felixargyle3297 you have a point. There are older motherboards made in the early 1990s that have those issues, this one might too (and might as well try and future proof it!). Thanks for the recommendation!

Hello very good video and repair skills. I have a Sony MZ-R700 in excellent shape but not turn on. I really wish I can use that beauty again, I have more than 250 MD collection recorder by me. I all ready clean the battery terminals and nothing happends. (no corrosion) I just need to connect it to the battery eliminator to see if it works, but I don't have it. Do you think if I get one that could be the problem? Regards from Cancun.

If you're going to use AA batteries to power your minidisc player, I would suggest Energizer Lithium AA batteries. They are more expensive, but they will 100% never leak. They use a different chemistry so they don't leak. Plus, they will last longer than alkaline batteries and have about a 20 year shelf life. And yes, I would like to see more minidisc content.

I bought some rechargable AA batteries that are nimh and it seems to be working well for the moment! Thank you for the recommendation!

I’m 90% sure the little leg that glues to the frame from the click wheel flex is to give a good ground reference for the capacitive touch used for the scrolling. Same with the kinda foil thing behind the click wheel on the main board that’s also attached to the frame, and a pad on the Hold switch flex PCB. Some aftermarket click wheels without the leg seem less sensitive (annecdata)
@Hexxor6 ай бұрын
That makes sense. I wish that there was some reference or documentation on how to replicate the "glue" that was used to attach it back onto the frame. All I had at the time was kapton tape unfortunately.

I was very afraid of ripping the ribbon cable the first time I opened up an iPod, but after doing it so many times you can just pop those open and pull them out pretty easily without actually having to worry about ruining them. I just pop the clips open in one go usually with my finger nail but maybe a plastic tool that comes with a lot of repair kits. No real need to do it very carefully.

Thank you very much for posting this. It helps to see what to anticipate (although I have not yet decided whether I will go ahead to solder it myself). What I realised, is that the OLED Jumper solder bridge that did not went as intended 58:43 - end is actually very valuable for us. Usually you see videos with perfect soldering from people and almost everything goes smoothly (or they remove the "bad parts"), until you have to make it and you come up with issues like the one you faced. Very helpful Question: What is the paintbrush you are using? Does it have isopropyl alcohol to remove the flux? Seems to work very well to clean the areas.
@Hexxor11 ай бұрын
I'm glad that I got to show y'all when a mistake happened; because I was also annoyed by the amount of editing that was done that removed all the hardwork when assembling your own components can be. The brush I was using was the "Dual Head ESD Safe Hard Cleaning brush" from "Northridgefix". I watch his channel quite often for inspiration. I did use Isopropyl Alcohol (95%) and dipped the brush into a small bowl of it and then brushing the PCB surface to remove the flux. More advice I can give is that you will have to clean the brush (using warm water and soap) afterwards or else the flux will build up in your brush and it makes the brush tough and hard to work with. I hope you do decide to do some soldering yourself on a project. You end up learning so much when you are working with your own hands on a project. Much more than by watching a video. It also feels empowering to learn that you made something work by connecting components together via soldering. Good luck!
