I've Let's Played this game twice upon the devs request over the past several years, although the last I did, I mentioned that this scene in particular was a little heavy on the visuals. I guess he listened and gave the angel that dialog warning the player right before the light show happens. Leif is one of the most interesting developers I've ever had the pleasure of taking playthrough requests from. I mean that in the best kind of way. I always looked forward being able to talk with him and his passion for this game is unlike anything I've ever seen from a dev. The guy deserves a lot of respect.

Could be that Henrick and Abella mutate so early because they are the most insecure about their self image. Abella's dialogue about herself paints her insecurities pretty straight forwardly, and as for Henrick it could be that he's super unsure of himself, since he career pivoted multiple times and outwardly asks for validation about if you like the cooking, even while youre in a fucking death game at the behest of an elder fucking god.

I get the feeling that Rher is actually changing people based on what they think about themselves, including their insecurities. As a result the entire town becomes a 2nd edition mockery of itself. Could also be that the impoverished ramshack part of town haven't done or thought enough beyond survival due to extream poverty, so instead they just get slow cooked by the moonlight begging for the pain to end.

Some people have been solving the lore in the steam discussions and supposedly its like a manhunt style scenario where each death is recorded for some psycho's snuff film you can find some text that seems like gibberish but can be decoded and explains this

I really enjoy this video, and the previous, and look forward to more Fear & Hunger specifically to be able to enjoy it in the way you've made it. While I find the games too challenging to get into for my current level of comfort with games, I do find it enjoyable to put the videos on and enjoy the narration's dulcet tones and the general ease of viewing you've cultivated. I will ask, as on repeated watchings this has become more and more interesting a question to ask, have you given the game 'Book of Hours' a go? You may enjoy it, given the way that the Fear & Hunger lore and elements seem to, especially with the allusions and revelations of 2, intersect and make both games more enlightening through understanding the other (if only because drawing connections between them is an enjoyable form of 'occult engagement'. Just a thought. The previous game, Cultist Simulator, shares a lot of the themes and so forth, but I would say Book of Hours is much more enjoyable to experience and consider at a comfortable pace (and does a lot with environmental storytelling too, that the former game's format couldn't allow for as much).
