#LosAngeles was built on #oil. In fact, "green" #California - a leader in electric and hydrogen vehicle production - is America's sixth largest oil producer! #Greenwashing is nothing new, and some of these oil rigs, such as the Astronaut Islands off of #LongBeach, have been hidden behind a facade for half a century already, allowing generations of Angelinos to enjoy the seaside in blissful ignorance. But, in a city housing the #GettyCenter and #LaBrea Tar Pits, why are so many people still surprised by this "secret"?

Hollywood glitz and glam? More like Hollywood kitch and scams, amirite?! Maybe the title of this video is a bit unfair, because I definitely had a lot of fun in Los Angeles, but I doubt I will be back unless I'm nominated for an Oscar! Hollywood is overrated, scientologists are annoying, and unless you have a car and a lot of money, the best attractions are quite out of reach.

A very overrated neighborhood indeed. This is exactly how I imagined Hollywood. If I had a day in Southern Califirnia, I would choose San Diego instead.

Dinosaurs! DINOSAURS! What can I say except DINOSAURS?! My childhood has been fulfilled! Oh, yes, and there was a lot of other fun stuff too. A fantastic day out with my colleagues, filled with movie nostalgia, thrills, laughs, and beer! (Note, I do not own or claim to own any of the properties depicted here. Universal Studios remains the sole claimant of the Harry Potter, Jurassic World, Simpsons and Secret Life of Pets franchises and their display in this video falls under fair use)

It may be kitsch; it may be touristy; but the "Big Red Bus" offers unparalleled value for money if you ever want to get absolutely sloshed in one of South Africa's most beautiful destinations! Our guided tour to three wine farms in Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch was a day to remember...if you manage to wake up the next morning!

My first international trip since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic was...well let's say it was a wild ride! This is not a step-by-step video on how to get to the USA. I'm no expert. But I thought it would be valuable to show the less glamorous side of travel in this "new normal" we now live in. A 12 hour flight from Johannesburg to Paris, followed by 12 more hours to Los Angeles, was exhausting to say the least, but the trials and tribulations of being a queer gal from the Global South trying to get to America really felt like they were never-ending. Not that I had it that bad by any means given how many people get treated even worse at airports, mind you.

Well, it happened. Despite all the excited talk by the anti-lockdown pundits of the pandemic being over, it was inevitable that I would be exposed, sooner or later, to the coronavirus. Luckily there were measures in place to mitigate the risk. Imagine travelling to the far side of the world to visit a brand new country, only to get stuck in isolation the next day! There are worse views to be stuck with, though.

Every few years, LGBTI+ activists come together from all across the globe for the world's largest queer conference. In 2022, while working as a Research Consultant for ILGA World, I was invited to present a research report...and document the conference. The experience will stay with me forever. Thank you to all my friends and colleagues for making it possible. See you in 2024! PS: Follow ILGA World for OFFICIAL conference content! kzbin.info

I have been in two minds about sharing this video for some time now because I am very much aware of the contradiction of being a human rights activist and going off to do fun things out of reach for most people, but when my mother and her boyfriend offered me a ride on a hot air balloon for my birthday, well, I couldn't resist! Located near the Hartebeestpoort Dam in South Africa's North West Province, Harrop's Original Balloon Safaris is an experience I will never forget. The early morning drive was a slog, but to fly above this beautiful country at sunrise really is a bucket-trip moment if ever there was one!

Work can be hectic, which is why I decided to disappear for a few days with my friends in the Drakensberg's stunning Injisuthi valley. No cell signal or electricity - just us and the solitude of nature. A place to just...be.

A few years ago I was lucky enough to travel from Cornwall to Caithness by train, meeting some fantastic people along the way - from Museum curators and fast-food fry-cooks to LGBTI activists and the remarkable CAPTAIN BEANY! Join me on this LEJOG journey as I go beyond London to discover the real Britain! A re-upload of my first ever travel vlog, which prompted me to create this channel! I checked the list and found they ranked China # 107 since "the pro-LGBTQ organizations are not supported by the government". I admit this is true, but I really don't think the homophobia on the social level is more severe than in India and East European countries (which ranked higher on their list )......

Hi Kellyn, thank you so much for your review of our study and for sharing your thoughts. We really appreciate your candidness! We would love to add in data based on surveys of actual LGBTQ+ travelers who have been to each country but so far we haven’t found a source for such data. Another thing I think we could add in the next update is the Trans Murder Map data that I just stumbled upon transrespect.org/en/map/trans-murder-monitoring/?submap=tmm_relative_numbers this would help take care of Brazil ranking too high. Cheers, Asher

Thanks! I loved going through the index and really appreciated the effort that went into providing a holistic and well-researched chart. As I say in the chart, I have some uncertainties around the "ranking" model, but I have no doubt your work is going to help many would-be LGBTQ+ travellers!

Hi lovely video. Please can you tell me what hike you went on? I'm doing Marble Baths in March. 🙂🙂🙂

Hi Carol, thanks for the comment :) With the weather being quite erratic we just did a couple of day hikes up in the direction of the Grindstone caves and a few other small ones. We had planned to go up Van Heyningen's Pass for the views but the bridge across the river was gone - they had a fire last winter which didn't touch the visitor accommodation but burnt up a lot of staff housing and a few trails, sadly. If I recall, Marble Baths should still be accessible. We got to the river crossing on that same trail but didn't go over because the water-level was very high. But it is a lovely hike that I would recommend to anyone with the time and fitness level to go that far :)
