Thanks Jeanette, we have been in the area of Vetren near Maglizh, and it is very pretty up there, but we don't like snow (to look at we do) and when we visited there was more snow up there than below the mountains nearer to Stara Zagora. However, I believe there has been less snow over the years so may not be an issue.

Hi. Its not true what you say about the land as your husband can own it. The agent is telling you this because they want you to pay them each year for your tax returns. I have been buying houses in Bulgaria for the last twenty years and I also sell them. I met my wife after I was buying houses in Bulgaria as she is Bulgarian. You needed a company then to buy the land but it changed three years ago. You only need a company if the house and land has got more than one deed to the property as you can only have one property. This can be change and the property to the land can be put on the same deed. When you sell your house you pay 10% tax as you are not Bulgarian that is if you have one house or ten. It sounds to me they just want to make money from you. I wish you both good luck in your house. I will give you just one advice if you dont mind. You should enjoy Bulgaria first then think about spending money on your property as I have seen many times when you spend lots of cash then decide Bulgaria is not what they think it was.
@NewBulgarians17 күн бұрын
Hi, thanks for your message. We didn't set up a company (as we said in the video) for buying our house so no tax returns each year. Also, we previously lived in Bulgaria for 11 years, in the Yambol and Stara Zagora regions, and have decided we want to return as we wish we had never left in the first place.

Could Darren apply for residency on his own? That way he would be able to move his belongings to Bulgaria without paying tax.
@NewBulgarians20 күн бұрын
Hi thanks for your comment. I (Nikki) have an EU passport so I can technically sort the belongings situation - the issue is we both have expired permanent residency cards, which we got before Brexit and we're unsure how easy it will be to renew them, and at least one of us needs that to be able to avoid the tax on our belongings. That will be the next step, which we are hoping to sort at the end of the month.

Looks great, congratulations. We wanted to buy a house in 2007 but ended up buying an apartment in Bansko mainly because our information was that foreigners couldn't buy a house or land. Was that incorrect or has the law changed since 2007?
@NewBulgarians20 күн бұрын
Hi, thanks for your comment. We originally bought a house in 2005 using a BG Ltd company, as although we could own the house, we could not own the land without the company. In 2007 as you probably know BG joined the EU, and I think it was sometime between 2012 - 2015 (not sure exactly) that we were then allowed to have the property in our name and then close the company down, which we did then. Now of course, thanks to Brexit, non-EU people are back to square one, and a ltd company is required to own land again.

Plovdiv and Stara Zagora are considered more "advanced" regions of Bulgaria on a national level. My friend has a guesthouse in a very small village next to Stara Zagora and it has been running very successfully for years. Stara Zagora scored 5th in 2023 in salaries suprassing even bigger cities such as Burgas or Ruse. Also, nearby Kazanlak enjoys the production of rose oil and local tourism. Plovdiv Airport will be connected to Birmingham with Ryanair this winter apart from Manchester and Stansted.
@NewBulgarians20 күн бұрын
Thanks for that information which is very interesting, and explains why property prices are relatively high there too. We will be keeping a close eye on the airline situation.
@kosmicheskiprah18 күн бұрын
@@NewBulgarians Yes. Also Stara Zagora as you know inaugrated a new railway station. In general terms, Southern Bulgaria is perhaps more "advanced" compared to the North. Same as UK, you cannot compare London with Wales or Madrid with Extremadura, etc 😀
