Idk about the darkest chapter in human history. But it was certainly up there. The entire world has been a big pile of crap full of murderers and sadists (regardless of their race).

These two videos about Guyana are so interesting. Especially the political history. I had no idea it was as complex as it was with Cheddi Jagan and Burnham. I learned a lot tonight. African American from San Antonio, Texas.

I visited Guyana a year ago. It truly is a beautiful place and I was really impressed with all the choices in restaurants, bars, food trucks! I could easily tell Guyana is a very happening place with a lot to look forward to in the future. It’s growing and it wasn’t anywhere near as impoverished as I thought it would be. On the other hand, Guyana has a lot of problems and very poor infrastructure. The roads and highways were not great. There’s also a very high crime rate. Lastly, it was pretty obvious in some areas that the abuse of young girls by older men is a problem. My host told me it happens because these exploited girls are trying to feed themselves and sometimes their families. This was depressing to me. I’m not sure yet if I’d want to go back for an extended visit or not, but overall I enjoyed my 2 weeks there.

We are all treading upon a post apocalyptic planet. Before these diseases wiped out the population of America, they similarly repeatedly wiped out the population of Europe and Asia. Everywhere are ashes of lost cultures and the powered bones of extinct peoples.

So much Spanish black legend, the English version of the story of hispanic America it’s a lie, that doesn’t resist any common sense. They love telling this lies to hide what they actually did in north america

Sadly, the Indigenous peoples of the Amazon still have great reason to distrust and fear whites. Each year, hundreds of Indigenous Amazonians continue to be mercilessly slaughtered by white farmers and illegal loggers and miners as well as by American, Canadian, German, and Chinese developers and corporations who routinely hire bad elements to "clear out" portions of the rainforest they're interested in developing. This horrific campaign of genocide was further fueled a couple of years ago when the now former Brazilian President Bolsonaro - nicknamed the "Donald Trump of South America" by his critics - overturned the restrictions protecting the rainforest and its people and opened up the entire Brazilian portion of the Amazon Rainforest to both domestic and foreign developers, loggers and miners, advising them to "finish what Columbus and Cortez failed to do and shoot any Indian who refuses to cooperate. " Allegedly, Bolsonaro personally phoned Trump in order to relay the "good news", to which Trump reportedly replied, "Finally another leader with some common sense." Since 2016, this ongoing slaughter has resulted in several tribes being completely wiped out altogether and a few with just one or two members left. While few if any of these horrific incidents ever receive a word of mention by the news media, one very sad albeit inspiring case did manage to elicit some mention last summer after four young Indigenous children between the ages of 3 months and 11 years were discovered emaciated, hungry, and barely holding onto life after walking alone through the dangerous jungle for four weeks. The four siblings are the only survivors of a mass attack on their tribe by illegal loggers. Their parents had allegedly told them to hide and not make a sound until the coast was clear - not exactly an easy task for a 3 month old infant, a 2 year old toddler, a five year old and their 11 year old big sister, but by the grace of God they managed to keep completely still and silent for what must have seemed an eternity. Tragically, upon returning from out of hiding, the children were met with a most disturbing scene that will undoubtedly haunt them for the rest of their lives. The chopped up, scorched remains of their entire tribe lay scattered about the embers and ashes of an encampment where formerly stood the large roofed circular enclosure which housed their family and friends. At that moment, they became the last four members of an uncontacted tribe which had thrived there for thousands upon thousands of years. After receiving medical treatment during a month long stay at the nearest hospital which was a two day journey on boat and helicopter from where they had been found by another tribe, the children were entrusted in the care of another neighboring tribe whose language and customs remotely resemble their's. Fortunately for them, their story ended relatively "happy" or at least as happy as a story surrounding the genocide of an entire tribe can be. Most stories do not have happy endings.

The Guianas, located in the northeastern corner of South America, comprise three territories: Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. Known for their lush rainforests and rich biodiversity, they are bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the north. A quick look at a geography map highlights how the Guianas share the Guiana Shield, a geological formation hosting some of Earth's oldest rock formations, as well as vast stretches of untouched Amazonian rainforest.

They did not kidnap that many Africans to Guiana. Maroons etymology is from Moor. They were not slaves. Thats like calling all white people pilgrims, or Neanderthals which would be inaccurate

That map of Guyana is wrong, part of that territory belongs to Venezuela, the British empire as usual wanting to steal everything took part of our territory.

Uneducated? Literally Hernán Cortés had a degree on law by the University of Salamanca, the most prestigious educational entity by that time. Torturing tribes for information? What’s your source on that? Most of the contacts were peaceful or warlike but don’t make it seem like Spaniards tortured natives or at least provide a source to back up your statements. I bet all this pompous editing costed more money and effort than a little actual research. The video is full of inaccuracies.

Outstanding! I watched all the episodes in one go. I just got back from Barbados and spent some time with someone from Trinidad & Tobago, and he, too, spoke about the divisions between the Africans and Indians there. Guyana seems like the same story. And just like T&T, the hope lies in that growing % of mixed-race people. I like the way you mix travel with history and politics. Never a dull moment. I also enjoyed the series on Sri Lanka and even read the books you referenced in that series.

One wonders why such desperate efforts are being made to discredit the contribution of Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham to the development of Guyana by persons who say nothing of the state of the country and the experiences of citizens during the Colonial era, nor even of the roles of Daniel Prabhudas Debidin with his doctrine of Apaan Jhaat, nor of Richard Ishmael whose negative roles Dr.Jagan bully explains and condemns in his book, "The West on Trial", nor are the effects of the 1939-1945 World War and the COLD WAR 1947-1991 on the economies and political stability of countries like Chile, Guatemala and Grenada.

Not only Suriname has border problems with Guyana, Venezuela has had a dispute over the Essequibo territory for more than 100 years. Besides, you say you put the map of “all the Guianas” and practically more than half of the Guiana Massif (not to mention the disputed territory) is Venezuela, and Brazil also has an important part of that territory that it occupies to the south of the countries already mentioned and to the east of French Guiana. A rather poor research work.

I've been trying to learn more about Guyana since the recent oil boom (as a Yank, I learned absolutely nothing about this country growing up), and this is probably the best researched series of videos on KZbin. Other than academic sources (which are patchy), this is probably the most comprehensive series of analyses on this country I've seen.
