Do you think you could just drill the stock shaft out for back purging? If you kept the positioner vertical you could get away without the back bolt.
@weldmachine
@weldmachine Ай бұрын
@Icandothatalsow You can drill through the standard Shaft that supports the table for a Purge setup. And possibly get away without the M8 Retaining Bolt on the end of the Shaft ?? I can't recall the exact setup of how it was held together on the standard positioner ?? ( before I modified it with the through bore you saw in the video ) But I'm sure the Roller Bearings that supports the Shaft will still hold it in place, even without the Retaining Bolt 👍

@chriswoods2263 Hey Chris. I like the Proarc Positioners. We had a few larger versions in a shop I worked in. I did buy one myself, but I can't recall the model number ?? ( it was a few years ago ) I can only remember it had a 450mm table. It sat around unused after buying it for a sub contract job. A good mate borrowed it. And it seemed like he owned after keeping it for such a long time ?? In the end, I told him the free hire period has finished, and it was time to buy it. What a surprise when he said he wasn't using it, and I could have it back ?? A couple of weeks go by, and he's back again wanting to borrow it ?? This time you need to buy it. NO more free hire 😅 Ironically, he made $$$$ from using it. Did I see even $ 20 for borrowing it 🙄 Good Mates ??? Thanks as always, for watching 😊 👍

I’ve just come across this video. The first thing I’m really noticing is that the timer is an OMRON. Honestly, those are expensive. I have a few. It’s hard to believe they used a genuine OMRON in this model as it would be almost 20% of the total cost.

Hi Roger. I haven't modified the gear ratio or motor on my version. It's still the same as it came from the manufacturer. Possibly the 30kg version has a different drive ?? The main modification on the version I have is with the through bore. I'm not that familiar with the 30kg model, it would be difficult to give you any ideas of what you could do to be able to slow it down any further, other than using an electronic variable speed drive ( VSD )

You are really babying the machine. It is not even hitting the chipbreaker, thats why you get these stringer chips. This could be done in single pass running 0,3mm feedrate. Nice video I like the series idea!
@deanmolloy2276
@deanmolloy2276 4 ай бұрын
I just came to the comments to say the same thing. Stringy chips are a pain to remove without a conveyor ( i have 2 lathes without conveyors) so playing with inserts and feed and speed becomes necessary. The hollow bar doesn't chip as nice tho as other mild steels but can definitely do better than the current arrangement
@weldmachine

You're definitely right about babying the machine. I could definitely increase the feeds and speeds. Because it's my machine, I do take it fairly easy on it. But, IF jobs like this continued I would definitely need to reorganise my shop so I can run the Chip Conveyor that sits there doing nothing ??? Feeds & Speeds could definitely be improved on parts like this. But, I don't get too stressed about running parts. IF I was working for someone in there shop, I would be a lot more aggressive with Feeds & Speeds. You have to get around to post a few more videos yourself. Get some space back and automation (bar feeder) that way I can make money when I sleep or that's what we hope for!!! @deanmolloy2276 Hey Dean. The Puma 2600 SY is definitely a nice machine. A guy I had previously worked together with has 3 of them. Started off concerned out about buying the first one. Thinking am I doing the right thing spending this much money ??? After just over 6 months of buying this machine brand new. He needed to order a second machine. While this was on its way here. He was working stupid hours every day trying to keep up to the work ?? After 1 month of finally getting the second machine. He purchased another stock machine from Hare & Forbes, Sydney branch. He seems to be running pretty well now after buying the third machine. It's sort of ironic how he was concerned about buying the first machine, and then, within the first year, he has 3 of them 😅 For what I run in my shop, I'm pretty happy with my current setup. The chip tray compared to a chip conveyor doesn't compare well ?? But, I'm not a production shop making parts all day. I rarely need to remove much material for the parts I make. For the job, I was running in this video the time the parts were running in the Lathe compared well to parts I was making on the Manual Mill at the same time. put a rod thru it all the way to the floor connected to a wheel you can move with your foot. Just drill a hole thru your table no need for a vise. the lower the wheel the easier for you hand and arm resting on the table instead of up in the air, you are doing it all wrong and giving bad advice. I used old brake rotors and a piece of plumbing pipe to build mine. cost me around 50 bucks.

This video is 1 of a few I have posted on this topic. But, IF your idea is so good ??? Maybe you should post a video instead of complaining that I'm "doing it all wrong" ??? Your idea isn't something new ??? I used something fairly similar in a previous shop I had many years ago. But, I took it a little further and used a wire feeder motor to drive the shaft. Instead of coming in with your condemning thoughts ??? You could have just shared your idea for others to learn something from. Much like what I try to do when I use my time to share my ideas.
