I am watching this in 2024 and it's truly incredible to think about how new all this was in 2000. Amazing how far we have come in 24 years.

Steve Jobs had the foresight to work together with competitor Microsoft when apple needed to get back on its feet. Well done!

Watching even these not as popular keynotes just demonstrates how much Jobs meant to Apple post 1997. Tim Cook sure has made Apple profitable but their products are just kind safe… and boring. Don’t get me wrong. I still buy a lot of Apple products but the excitement when something would get announced is long since gone. Now it’s just like “okay, I need a new laptop. What’s Apple got right now? Did they fix that horrible keyboard?”

For all the praise of Apple having a simple product lineup it's rather funny to see this era of iMacs and how convoluted it got for a short time.

I remember that day as it was yesterday. It was a magical moment and all our neighbours came to our house, gathered in front of the tv to watch together in awe, when steve hercules adonis jobs anounced the drop of the i. We all had tears in our eyes and hugged in excitment and emotion. 9 month later, my son was born. One day, i will tell my grandchildren that great story. What a time to be alive.

“One day, a long time ago, at the start of the millennium kiddos, Steve Jobs got me so emotionally engrossed in his role at Apple I fucked granny and made your father” yeah, gotta admit that’s a great one for the grandkids to hear; I’d run it by your son first but he’ll probably be too busy watching that year’s keynote to care so just go for it!

And ... like basketball doesnt make anything better in the world... the digital revolution overall has a very inconsistent record. Jobs was a typical first gen IT tycoon - he thought building better machines will automatically do good to human society. He was wrong. Just check out our desaster of (un)social media. IT industry makes a lot of people dumber than they already are and we have no clue how to handle misinformation and lies. Cause this is not a problem of technology but a social problem. And this social problem is ACCELERATED by technology. And I am looking forward what machine learning will do to our society - especially the job market of white collar human worker. This could become a real massacre. But we will see. But back to Jordan - what did really happen? Instead of making most people playing basketball themselves... Jordan made million of people sit at the tv and eat a lot of trash food and do a very unhealthy thing to themselves for entertainment "fun". And he got very rich by this. To cheer for this is a bit weird.

Having Microsoft invest in the company that would one day overtake their market cap is NUTS. I know that Bill Gates only did it because they were be investigated for monopolistic practices but even still. Just incredible.

That “lifestyle brand” thing Ellison said was probably the number one thing that saved the company. If they didn’t have that weird cult like dedication to the brand, it wouldn’t have been able to turn it around.
