Experiencing this technology back then, it's almost impossible to explain how it felt. It was like nothing we had ever seen or felt before, it was...magical. My family rode this that first year it came out, it was a 2 hour wait, we got right back on the line as soon as we got out, it was that mesmerizing. We just wanted to experience it again.

This quote from Jonathan Winters really struck me... "I think the world is ready for a laugh. We've all had a lot of dark clouds hanging over us." He had no idea that in just 16 days from that interview, President John F Kennedy would be assassinated, blanketing America and the world under very dark clouds. I'm glad we have moments like this interview to look back on and ponder.

Almost 27 years later and the movie industry is even worse. Back in 1997, there was an indeed a bit of a resurgence in risk tolerance. By 1999 we had classic films like The Matrix and Fight Club, but that period sure didn't last long. Superhero films really nailed the coffin shut.

As mellifluous as Stephen Fry's voice is, Peter Jones will always be *The* Voice of the Book.

My fav scenes. Phil Silvers to Jonathan Winters. 'You better throw that bicycle out of the way. Somebody may trip over it in the dark" on the road in the middle of the f'n desert. And Jim Backus, the hungover country club pilot sleeping it off on the pool table. "Make me an Old Fashioned, just like dear old Dad used to make." No, too sweet. Hiliarious.

When i close my eyes, Jonathan sounds a little like Johnny Carson. My favorites in the film are Ethel Merman, Dick Shawn, Terry Thomas, Jim Backus, Phil Silvers.

Uploaded 2016. only 124 comments in the eight years since. But it seems to have been pushed to the fore - thankfully - and has been suggested to me. (And many others in the last eight weeks). Always a big fan of his narration, but until seeing this, I didn't realise how effortlessly he makes good comedy. It starts off seemingly dry, then the banging of the headphones sets the tone. Very glad to have seen this. Thanks for uploading. 👍👍👍

The humour is admittedly in your face, not subtle, so whilst I find it absolutely hilarious, it will not suit all tastes. Hollywood was largely created by Jews, so with such a large cast, hardly surprising a few or several are Jewish, including the producer/director, and a titan of cinema he was. Those who love and promote the movie to this day are by far from all Jewish, and for most, that is the last thing on their minds when gushing over this movie, so your critique is misplaced. To say the actors are terrible is just pure hate of the film in your view, that is so untrue. Spencer Tracy is known by any film connoisseur to be one of the greatest film actors of all time, and virtually all the actors in this comedy are on top form, particularly Ethel Merman, Jonathan Winters, Terry-Thomas, Buddy Hackett and Milton Berle!

"Can we get someone who sounds like Peter Jones ..." This takes me back to Dec 1978 when I turned on Radio 4 by chance and was instantly hooked. Still have the cassette's I recorded off air, and the "beautiful continuity announcements" improvised by the station staff.

I was absolutely honoured to meet Peter about 35 years ago. I was getting the book of the scripts signed by as many of the original cast as possible, and while other cast members had me send the book to sign, Peter simply gave me his address in London and invited me to visit. We chatted for ages and he was absolutely wonderful.
