Just discovered this. I was lucky enough to see John dozens of times but I can say with absolutely certainty that this is the most beautiful version of the song I have ever heard. Have booked tickets to see the John Martyn project in Canterbury on the back of it. Can't wait

The masons Biggest Problems were that they employed a one size fits all approach to Societal Equations, and obviously disrespected their own Team and Communities. They're mostly untalented admin assistants and beaurocrats. I'm A Soldiering Scientist & You Lot Are An Inter/Multi-Disciplinary Team. Combined, We Are Unstoppable. Alone, not so much 🤎💎🧡

It's the spaces in the phrasing, it's the growl before the beautiful (Notes) it's the love, it's the tragedy - damn - this is songwriting and performing of the most extraordinary and intermate. Always amazed, always humbled, always blessed.

I´ve known the lyrics to this song for over 10 years through Colin Hay´s cover, but this version made them click for me. It´s one of those times when a song suddenly inherits an entirely personal meaning after something happens in your life that changes everything

This is so bitter sweet. I love ❤️ Rory’s performance, I could watch it all day but just knowing he would be leaving us very soon after this brings me to tears. 😢 Rory Gallagher was a real guitar hero, a legend, an absolute genius !! 🤘🏼🇮🇪

Incredible this song has two interpretations, one tragic, and one beautiful. Couldn’t love ya more even if you give me the world because I don’t love you enough to be with you :( or even if you gave me everything I couldn’t possibly love you more because I already love you immensely ❤️

Had to hone in to fiqure out some of the lyrics. Love the duct tape pickup! Back when people were real 😥Over all a very lovely poetic song! 🤙

He moves from a repulsive caricature to a lovely song. I can never make my mind up about the person, a self-described pig, boozer, brawler. Bit like me really, I never wrote a single song though.

you had to hear him sing this song alone ,way before this show to truly experience what a beautiful song this is. sounds good here but musicians with the exception of danny thompson get in the way a bit. Totally I get why JM would enjoy a band with, but the emotion drug was strongest as a solo player. songs and echoplex. To this day I have never seen anything that can do to you what he did ,in that mode. Had his moments of drunk unforgivable aggression I know .

How lovely to see John as a young man, from a time when I myself was young. Also the passage of time shows just how difficult amplifying acoustic instruments was back then. Goodbye again, John.

This has to be my favourite (among so many favourite) John martyn songs. His voice is like warm honey soothing my troubled mind. He sings ….. and I believe him ….. simple as that! I play this at open mic nights as a tribute to the man and the impact he has had on me for so many years and still does ( my version is crap compared to this but it connects me with the man and that’s good enough for me 😂)
