Did you make this setup? I was wondering if this is good for DSLR pics for 3D printing!! I was thinking about grabbing a Rebal Cam but I need to learn more.. Just Picked up one of those QIDI I-Fast 3D printers and they are prob obsolete now. Thanks for sharing. DEv

the iFast is an older machine, it is slow, but it still produces great results especially with engineering grade filaments. As for the setup in this, it is a Kessler Cinedrive with the 5x control upgrade. The cinedrive was pretty legendary back in the day, incredible hardware. the 5x control module update refreshes it and brings it up to current control standards.

Are there advantages of this over the CineShooter+? Seems like there is more adjustments you can make with the cinedrive system.
@BiolapseStudios

The cinedrive can handle more weight and is incredibly stable with no percievable backlash. It can also be found online for around $800, meaning that the total cost is about 2300 rather than 3400.

I think we followed all your instructions but our Camera in URE just won’t move when we move somewhere in kOS. Any idea what might cause this? When we press the test button in kOS the yellow controll light in URE turns green. So the connection seems to work.

What a great help you are... thank you :-) Eventually I will buy some TB6600's, but for now, I need a small stepper motor, so I want to use a 28BYJ-48 together with a ULN2003 driver. But that driver has 4 outputs. Any recommendations on how to connect that, or do I need another driver? Many thanks.

@@BiolapseStudios Thank you for answering so quickly :-) So, I ordered this same driver you are showing here, and connected everything in the same way. But there is no any movement whatsoever. I do see the leds on the arduino flikkerig when trying to jog in Dragonframe, so that hould be good. Am I correct thinking that you have the enable+ connection on the driver not used? -----EDIT: I am using the newest DragonFrame sketch, version 2.1.0. But I guess it should work with the same setup.

***DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT** I wasted thousands on an entire Axibo rig, including the zoom and focus motors. It took around 2 months to receive the thing following several unanswered emails from Axibo. Once received, the product did not function as advertised. The LiveLink data it exports to Unreal Engine is jittery. When you move the Axibo, and it completes a move, the data jumps around, causing the virtual camera to bounce in Unreal. Other users had the same issue. Axibo promised a fix back in April, but there is still nothing. The zoom axis will spontaneously lose calibration even if you leave the unit powered up. If you cycle power to the Axibo, all calibration data is lost. The worst part is that they completely ignore all tech support requests. They do not return emails. They have a Discord server for tech support that they never answer. The product is well-built, but once you buy it, good luck! You are on your own. I work in network television, and this kind of behavior by a business would never fly in the real world. Biolapse, I would suggest you pull this product recommendation.

Hey there 👋🏼 Great video as always! I am currently considering to purchase the Kessler Cineshooter+ and I was wondering if there is any syncing needed to match the frame rate of the camera with that of your tv panel? Do you use genlock or something similar?
@ez8937
@ez8937 5 ай бұрын
And how much would you say does the quality of the used tv matter? We are considering the Bravia 9 from in its 83” version. Our thinking behind that is that its maximum brightness would help when it has to compete with our studio lights? Or do you think any tv would do and we should rather save some money there and get an even bigger screen instead? The Bravia is also no OLED but it’s local dimming brings it quite close to OLED especially when out of focus
@BiolapseStudios
@BiolapseStudios 5 ай бұрын
@ez8937 I am using some samsun 86 inch tvs. They are only about 1500 and not the best specs but they work. So far I haven't had the need to use Genlock, but I'm only filming 30fps for the most part, and no high speed moves just realtime and stop.motion
@ez8937
@ez8937 5 ай бұрын
@@BiolapseStudios Interesting! And to wich frame rate do you set the tv? I remember that you said that they are set to 720p resolution wise but for they also refresh at 30fps or higher? You are such a great resource for small scale virtual production, I really struggle to find much content with real sample footage. The jittery motion is from your worn out belt you said? So the Kessler Cineshooter itself is stable? I ask because our clients are super picky about smooth motion 😁

Great in-depth tutorials, I hope there's more to come! I can't seem to figure out how to connect the focus distance from the kOS to the focus distance parameter in the URE though. Is this something you actually wouldn't connect as it's pretty close anyway, or could you perhaps share your way to do it (as I saw FIZ motor used for focus in another video of yours). Sadly I can't find any documentation from Kessler on the URE topic yet. And ofc many thanks for making these :)

That is something I need to tackle. There are curves that have to be built to map our the ranges. I'm not exactly clear on it but I'm willing to try and sort ot out. As of now for all the work I've done there has been a lot of focus pulls but usually macro so the camera blows it out good enough. Give me some time to dig on it.

@natelett for sure. Hey also, there is something really awesome happening at Kessler. They have started to retrofit Cinedrive systems with the cineshooter+. I have one, they are still working out some bugs but it is amazing. I have seen a cinedrive pantilt sitting at adorama for 800 bucks. These used to sell new for 15k. The hardware is excellent. It is missing the brains, but they are not needed. For $1400 they will retrofit it to run with the new 5x control module, this is literally the brains of a cineshooter. So about $700 less than a cineshooter plus you can get a cinedrive pan tilt that does the exact same stuff, but with incredible high quality mechanics.

Do you use OLED Screens for your backgrounds ? Can’t decide between Mini-LED because of its max brightness and OLED for its black levels. Can OLED Screens compete with the studio lights in terms of brightness? Also, if you do use OLED, don’t you get burn in when filming for weeks at a time? Love your content :)
