Some stages, will show a branching path on the mission/planet selection. You have to fulfill a condition in those stages or, if you're on the Hard Route, select "change course" as an option to go to the easier route branches. But the stages where there is some critical condition you have to fulfill are the most obvious. In Meteor, you have the warp gates, in Macbeth you have the switches, in Zoness you have the search lights. I think one of the more obscure branches is Sector X to Sector Z because you have to take a specific route in the stage, then shoot warp gates and fly through them. Without too much extraneous detail, a good indicator is the aforementioned branches. In those stages where you see two branching paths before selecting the route, just really examine the stage. Usually it's fairly obvious what the condition is.

@@Wobblezee Ahh, I got the 5x on release. I saw a lot of the promotion for the 4K and I just couldn't justify it. The N64 I have is RGB modded, but I saw someone playing an unmodded console and I just kind of felt stupid since it didn't look dramatically different. I'm really happy with the 5X, so if the results look desirable and you can swing the money, go for it.

@@Wobblezee I had a friend going through conniptions with certain hardware, but if you're already tinkering then I'd say there are a lot of user friendly ones you can try to dip your hands into. Voultar is an amazing resource if you just want to assess how the job is done first and whether it's worth the time, if you hadn't already heard about who they are.

Ha, this was the N64 game I played the most as kid so I still enjoy revisiting it.

secretly, I think this is one of the strengths of this particular "dub." This fairy doesn't sing in the original NA Localization/release. No one mentions it, but I will here!

I think they tried to play him as sympathetic and, narratively, he’s presented as Kunio’s opposite. So his fatal flaw is that he listens to actual criminals, but the sympathetic part is that he’s a minor. His father [figure] uses him and it’s clear that he just wants a family and a happy life. He is groomed to look and act like and be Kunio that he becomes jealous of what that means and, it could be argued, loses any sense of the truth. I don’t want that to come off like you don’t understand that. Rather, it’s something I hate about the later portrayals of the character. He’s a tragic character, he’s also a victim and, again, a minor. He’s not in his 20s lol.

Akira Nishitani's games are in a class of their own as far as fighting games and arcade single player goes, at least to me. Unappreciated, frankly.

@@arvidfrom4211 thanks! There are items and ideas I didn’t end up being able to flesh out for myself since I didn’t want to do any runs for shop money, but it’s an interesting system to play around with in the main game.

Hopefully I can do more, though it’s really a crash course in KOF and I’m basing it on stuff I see these two players doing at a Japanese arcade. K’ seems really fun, but I definitely need to clean up my execution.

Who are you using and do you get the general idea of how to catch her from the video? Describe what is happening.

@@ArctheLadder I am using Devon and she usually runs away before I get close. a few times I do manage to get a few hits on her but usually she runs away so fast that I have trouble getting close again

@@Spazbo4 so you should be looking through the openings in the barriers to see the direction she’s moving in. What you want to do is cut her off by running to a point/intersection that is in the direction she moving towards. You’ll see me do this multiple times in the video. What she will do from there is stop and try to shoot you, you have to take this moment to begin your offense. So you want to attack her before she shoots. Once she shoots, she might try some melee options but if you got a good opening then she should take an entire combo from your character where she’ll respond by jumping backwards and shooting at you then beginning the sequence again. When you’re approaching her, wait until you’re in range to lock on. Do not lock on before running up to her because you’ll move much more slowly when in target lock. Key things: 1. Cut her off at the pass in order to get her to try to shoot at you, which means look at her through gaps in the wall or pillar structures in the arena. If you listen you can hear where she’s moving via the stereo channels which can help with figuring out her position. Her trying to shoot you, stopping to aim at you is your opening and hitting her as she’s beginning to shoot and not after will get you consistent results. Sometimes you can strafe a shot and still get a combo in. 2. Use your R Trigger to strafe. Ideally you’re using it for hold based lock-on which is in the options menu but if you press it by itself your character will strafe while moving which is very helpful in gap closing and avoiding damage.

Yeah, Kaede runs faster and Hayate has a much jump and better air mobility as a result. Note that the game has a dash button, so Hayate can cheat out of his shortcoming to some degree.
