Everything wrong with the 1994 movie can be summed up in 2 words: Tom Cruise.

I think that the show still did a good job making lestat a character to fall in love with and then constantly be conflicted about. The way he is written absolutely skews negative, but they put in enough moments to make you feel for him that it creates an interesting push and pull. I also found the way they handled memory in season two of some key scenes fantastic because it showed how louis twisted the story, not because he was the bad one all along or anything like that, he wasn’t, but because he wanted to forget the mistakes he made. I’m excited to see how both characters develop going forward

OMG the series is SO GOOD. I wasn’t even expecting it to be so good. THIS, this right here is what great adaptation looks like when you want to make changes!! Bravo AMC!! Jacob as Louie was amazing! I’m more partial to book Claudia although I did really like this version of Claudia, Armand was alright, but LESTAT, omg, PERFECTION!! I was a teenager when the movie came out and this was when Brad Pitt was in his hay day so of course, being a Brad Pitt fan girl I liked the movie but HATED Tom Cruise. I didn’t watch Queen of the Damned. Was done with the Chronicles up until my early 30’s when I finally read the books. That’s when I developed a deep hatred for the movies, both of them. I was not expecting much, but being a GOT’s fan, I was willing to give Greyworm, I mean, Jacob a shot. I binged watch all of S1 and absolutely loved it. I thought Lestat was Lestat, my only disappointment was Armand, but given the rest of the cast and brilliance of the story overall, I’m willing to over look it. Great series, they’ve done a great job.

I used to love the movie and the serie but with the palestinian genocide goin on I can't see anything of Taika, it's weir and unconfortable so I would like to see that mention it here
@shashatainmentКүн бұрын
this is very valid, however, it needs to be noted that jemaine is the one who is actively involved with the project, not taika, and he (unlike taika) has been speaking out against the genocide (signing public letters and debunking zionist propaganda on twitter). honestly didn’t know anything about taika’s position, thanks for informing me :)

No competition the original is 1000xs better with casting. Lois and Lestate are described as BEAUTIFUL, Tom and Brad pulled off that and the chemistry though I do wish they pulled more from the books. Most vampires in anne rices series are BI so it was weird that child Kristen kissing Brad was ok but not two men kissing. The only reason the series can do it now is bc it's not uncommon to see anymore

Got on the hype train late too and was also surprised at how smart the writting feels, every change is so interesting a lot more is adapted and they still managed to adapt some of the movie vibe. With the story mainly set in Louisiana this new version of Louis makes a lot of sense and feel fresh for old fans. There's a real sense that he thinks being a vampire gives him access to white privilege at some point.

I think aging up a child character playing older beyond her years is a way to stave off people using the live-action content of real children for fantasies of abuse.

i know you only tackled book 1 and 2 but when i read the end of the tale of the body thief i couldn't believe how close that lestat was to lestat in episode 5 (tho i haven't asked or seen the writers say where they took inspo from or if it was original). lestat is a monster and all vampires are and they grow old and even more detached from humanity... in season 2, rashid puts it SO well "they have a biological imperative that it's in conflict with human morality"... i think people's approach to gothic media is so based in our human morals that they either see everything white or black. also i do not agree with your take on lestat as a 'flat character' which he isn't, not like he is in the first book at least. even though we are seeing lestat through louis eyes and claudia's diaries, we see way more than in the book. they can't really add too much from tvl or later because this is louis' story. calling him a "dimensional evildude" is certainly a choice but whatever. i'm just glad the show and jacob made a likeable character out of louis. i see that they took a lot from the snippets he is in the next books.
@shashatainment5 күн бұрын
the „growing old & losing ur human self“ gets brought up in book 1&2 as well, not in detail tho, and the authors cite primarily tvl as i‘ve mentioned in the vid. this is louis‘ perspective, yes, and i literally talk about it, but both the creators and actors talk about how they wanted to incorporate lestat from tvl and onwards right off the bat - thus, in comparison to later works, he IS flat. i wouldn‘t have a problem with that if the topic of tvl (& later books) lestat was not discussed so often in the promos edit: forgot to add this initially, but yesss, imo the way louis‘ character was made complex is probs THE best change to the source material

The new version is trash. A trash fanfic written by her homosexual son. Know that these vampires weren't originally written as queers, but due to Annes child coming out as gay and ALL the freakshow people surrounding her, she had to buckle to the pressure. Vampire immortality is lonely, eventually you'd want a friend that diddn't die in what seemed like a couple years. If you remove the sex factor, men want to hang out with other men mostly. Has nothing to do with gayness. Also, Louis should have stayed a slave owner, louis and claudia are now black. Blackwashing characters is disgusting and should end. There boring and most of them cant act worth a damn anyway. Either movie blows that queer fanfic out of the water. It honestly wasn't until the recent lgbtq push that vampires have been associated with this bs. I larped as a kid, I wouldn't want to larp with anyone of this generation honestly, you've flat out ruined vampires.

it not being mentioned can be explained by the fact that the innerworkings of vampire world often go unexplained, but i remember the creators sharing that they didn’t even know they were gonna reveal that guillermo is a vampire hunter until the end of first season themselves 🫨 so it might also be the pure chaos of the writing room. thank u!

i will say its really interesting seeing your video be based off only trhe first season, when s2 came around i was sort of the same way and only realised that interview with a vampire is based on what was said on ep1 the odyssey of recollection, louis is a unreliable narrator, his first interview with mollow being based off spite and the second one a more recollected interpretation but still skewed to louis perspective, at one point he even agrees that was is being clarified should overwrite hes telling of the story if anything season 1 felt like a storytale depiction of lestat and when we finally see him at the end of season 2 you can see how emotionally raw he is, he is good and bad and yet he has no way to debate the depictions of him from not one but two people recollecting biased stories that dont take into consideration how problematic louis and armand are as well
@shashatainment7 күн бұрын
well, him being an unreliable narrator is present in both the book (even tho it’s emphasised stronger in later ones) and s1 the show, i mention it in the video

I love the changes made for the show and think they depict a version that improves the characters (Luis) minus some things you mentioned (Lestat). I’ve not watched season 2 yet. But if they end up doing Memnoch the Devil…oh Lord help us all. To see that onscreen will be amazing and Christians will freak the fuck out. I hope they can do a great telling of this whole story.
