I visited Roy Roger's Museum in 1968. Much of the town was empty lots for sale. Now, at 76, I can't believe the growth. I fell in love with it then ND it continues to fascinate me.
@roadnland18019 ай бұрын
With growth comes new people and many who have never heard about the Roy Rogers Museum. The older community does miss having the museum in town. The best, at this point, for fans of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans is the Route 66 Museum on D street. There's a small exhibit of the Rogers and the museum. Thank you for commenting. And Happy Trails.

I believe the Logistics Office is where I worked out of and was the 561TFS Aircraft Generation Squadron offices and break room. I also worked out of the massive hangar for a couple of years doing Phase inspections on F-4E/G aircraft. Good to see the area put to use, and the new buildings look very nice in that area of now removed ghost buildings.

Good to hear from someone that was there. As you can see the old base has changed. City of Victorville is working on new construction on the west side of the airfield. Thanks for commenting.

I realize George was closed due to BRAC but I thought subsequently, it was determined to be a superfund toxic waste site due to the sand/soil contamination with JP4 jet fuel. So, the logistics area is operating and new structures have gone up for new business, but how will the employees remain healthy? Confused here. I was a Ssgt in the Emergency Department for five years in the eighties and PCSd to AK right before its closure, so I'm familiar with the flightline layout.
@roadnland180111 ай бұрын
While I am not an expert with the air base, my understanding, based on locals, is that there are still a few area that are need of cleaning up. The few GAFB veterans that I has met talk about the north side of the base. They feel that is the area that hold the most contamination. There was a local newspaper report a few years back that stated that there was to be cleanup of an area south east of the base. It was stated that the cleanup was due to contamination from WW2. I did find this on the EPA website: “In 1991, the Air Force began operating a pump-and-treat (PAT) system with air stripping for groundwater contaminated with TCE under OU-1's northeast base area that migrated off base”. I would have to guess that some areas that have not be restored or developed must be due to contamination issues. Such as the housing area and the golf course. Most of the new development is being done on the west side of the airfield. As for the health of the current employees, I too wonder. For the EPA report, I did a search for George Air Force Base Waste Cleanup. It was at the top of the Google search.

Interstate 15 has nice views of the San Gabriel mountains going down cajon pass and the new interchange with the 15 and 215 is easier to navigate since you don’t have to cross over to the right lane to continue on interstate 15. The old interchange was complicating having to switch to the left lanes for I-215 and the right lanes for I-15.

Yes this is my town Apple Valley, California. It is between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Apple Valley is located next Hesperia, Victorville and Lucerne Valley. Route 66 is our road and get on 15 freeway less than half hour to the Barstow👍 Video showed so many beautiful places and markets, and we also have small Race Track call Apple Valley Raceway✌ The young people start doing Drifting events there and getting more popular nowadays. Too bad you didn't comment on the iconic "The New Corral Motel" 6:12 far right, it has a neon sign of a black stallion. It was quite eye-catching at night. And if you turn right here at 9:31 instead of left, you will see the old "rainbow bridge" no longer in use but hopefully it will be preserved. Also in this direction, just before Apple Valley is a unique rock formation known locally as "The Mojave Chief."

Congratulations to your nephew. When you get a chance, take a trip to Barstow. There is actually a good amount of places to see. There is also a Route 66 Museum there but it might be closed. There is also a Route 66 Museum in Victorville. And don't forget Calico Ghost Town. Thanks for watching and for commenting.

Why would you stop that close to L.A. at run of the mill food joints? I'd just go on up to Baker and get snacks and something to drink. You're waiting to eat until you hit Vegas.
@roadnland1801 Жыл бұрын
For me, stoping to eat at restaurants in Victorville is because I living here. For others that are coming from LA, the driving over the Cajon Pass can take some time during busy times. The freeway to Victorville, over the Cajon Pass, can sometimes take a few hours. So many are already hungry. Many others stop in Victorville on their way back to the LA area. Thanks for commenting.
