Live in the desert and still never get tired of it. Peaceful with no traffic with open vistas and summer nights are breathtaking. Thank you for sharing. Might go to that ol drive-in.

I understand how you feel about the desert. For me, there’s nothing better than to be outside breathing in the desert air. Seeing the barren landscape of the Mojave Desert. Thanks you very much for your kind words.

I live in the Redwoods now (Mendocino) , but I'm from the Inland Empire , in So Cal The Mojave and Eastern Sierra were our play grounds . From nights in the 80s , when Halley's Comet was around to fishin Robinson Creek outta Bridgeport last September. I try to explain the beautiful and vastness of the desert to folks here and all they come back with is " yeah ! But there ain't no trees"! 🙄

There are many people who just don't understand the beauty of the desert. We may be lacking tall redwood trees but we have the unique Joshua Tree. Thanks for commenting.

I've camped out overnight in the deserts in Arizona,Nevada,Utah,and California. You get away from the city lights on a clear night you see millions of stars. So quiet and peaceful.

Thank you for the video.I found the footage of the old roads and businesses interesting, but in the beginning of the video there was a little too much driving on a rather featureless stretch of desert for me! I-15 between Las Vegas and the San Bernardinos has to be one of the least appealing rides I've ever been on. And hot! A car AC can't cope. I was hoping to see a bit of Calico Ghost Town, which I visited back in 1967 when some friends and I drove cross-country. When we got up to it, it was quite deserted, no other visitors, no staff that we could see. A lot of very interesting old buildings, but everything closed. It really did seem like a ghost town!

Thank you for watching the video and for your comment. I understand that long drives in remote part of desert can be uninteresting. Yet for some, like myself, a long drive on a lonely desert road can be relaxing and enjoyable. Sorry to hear about your experience with the ghost town. Sometimes that place is a hit or miss.

Thank you very much for your kinda words. Calico Ghost town is one of my favorite place to visit. It was a real mining town from the old west with a lot of history. When you visit there, Calico Ghost Town has a campground. There's an area for RVs and another for tents. If I remember right, admission to the ghost town is free to those who are camping there. Thank you also for subscribing.

Congratulations to your nephew. When you get a chance, take a trip to Barstow. There is actually a good amount of places to see. While it's not anything like LA or Vegas, there is a good amount of history in the area. It's part of Route 66. On the video I drove past the Harvey House, there is a train museum there. There is also a Route 66 Museum there but it might be closed. There is also a Route 66 Museum in Victorville. And don't forget Calico Ghost Town. Thanks for watching and for commenting.

I left victor valley in 95 and most of the desert remains the same, most people are unaware you can drive from apple valley to Yermo and never see pavement. Well back then anyway. Also elephant mountain once had a 15 stamp mill for all the mines in the area.
@roadnland18012 жыл бұрын
Good to have you comment with some interesting information. I didn’t know about a unpaved road from Apple Valley to Yermo. I only knew about highway 247 and Route 66 as a way to stay of I-15. Thanks for watching the video and for your comment.

@@roadnland1801 Back then apple valley was small and the dirt road went passed the airport going north to passed bell mountain then to Stoddard Wells Rd. At slash x ranch the road gets ruff Daggett, I doubt you can do that today but in the 1800s it was the stage coach road. I enjoyed the video and fond memory's.

I enjoy driving videos like these. I usually have driven those very roads. The ones with voiceover are always more interesting to me. Music is great for bumpers and such, but those CC loops are boring. Put a black velvet cloth on your dashboard, too.

Thank you very much for your comment and tips. I have been working on added voice but it hasn't worked out so well, so far. I was trying out taking while doing the video but the sound was bad. I'm going to try voice over on the editing side. It's a work in progress kinda thing.

I can’t believe you didn’t say anything about the elephant mountain while driving Yermo Road.
@merlie12542 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing. I lived in Yermo for 10 years at my in-laws’ Christmas tree ranch. I saw it while you were driving on Yermo Road. It was the one on the right, a fenced property with tall Pine trees. I helped plant those in 1979.

Well I just looked at the map and found Elephant Mountain. I seen it many times before but never knew the name.
@jmaraf7741 Жыл бұрын
When in Barstow, look at Elephant Mt. from there and you can see the profile of a reclining elephant... his rear end towards I-15 to the left, his long body to his bumpy head and long stretched out trunk to the right. What looks like his trunk is actually, the side of a wide plateau that got "truncated" at the far right by the Mojave River.
