I have heard a few different things about the negative wire on the batteries. I was told to have the deep cycle negative put to the negative terminal of my starter battery. From then put the negative cable from the starter battery on to the bus bar. Does it make much of a different?
@joetheboatguy53945 күн бұрын
Hi tylerdifranco, Thanks for watching. It all depends on your setup and equipment connected to your batteries. But the best way is having both negative batteries wires going to bus bar. But both ways will work if you have the right gauge wire everywhere.

Can SOMEONE PLEASE tell me why in the world are equipment trailers and RV wired differently and use the same 7 way plug??I never understood this!
@joetheboatguy539410 күн бұрын
Hi Guerrero, thanks for watching, The only difference between 7-Way Utility and 7-Way RV is the color of the wires. The pin outs are the exact same so either would work just fine with the other. For RV it’s usually Green-Tail & Running Lights Black-12V Power Yellow-Reverse Lights Brown-Right Turn & Stop Red-Left Turn & Stop Blue-Brake Controller Output White-Ground

Why do the L/R Turn and Stop Lights use the same wire? How do they work?
@joetheboatguy539421 күн бұрын
Hi huanqingwu, thank you for watching, When you press on your breaks, both the green and yellow wire will send a constant 12 V at the lights, that will mean that your brakes lights will be on. When your right flasher on your vehicle is on, your green wire will receive a on and off 12 V so it will make your light flash Same goes for the left side with the yellow wire. Now, if you have your brakes on and your right flasher on at the same time. Your green wire will receive on and off 12 V, and your yellow will have a constant 12 V. So the right side will flash and the other side will be constant On. Let me know if this helps 👍

@joetheboatguy539429 күн бұрын
Hi VijayGocool, you can add 1-2 switch if you really want protection. But your solar panel should have a diode that will let voltage travel just one way. So your panels would only really work once your outboard is off. Hope this helps.

Hello Great video, but I have a question. I am an RV owner and would like to connect the radio via TWO WAY switch so that the radio is normally working via the ignition, but when I am parked I turn the switch to my leisure battery which is powered form a leisure battery.I understand that I can do this so that I connect position 1 of the switch to the ignition, position 3 to the leisure battery, and the middle one to my radio. But, what do I do with the yellow wire? Is it still connected to a car battery or a leisure battery?I hope this makes sense. Thank You
@joetheboatguy5394Ай бұрын
Hi zv5231, thanks for watching and nice comment. Ok if I understand, you want to install your radio in your RV but be able to use the power from the vehicle battery unless your parked and unhooked from vehicle. If that is correct, then you want to connect your yellow wire to the leisure battery that is always in your RV. When ever your yellow wire is disconnected you will lose your setting in radio (like clock or programmed stations) that is why I say to have it connected with the RV battery 👍 Hope this helps

@@joetheboatguy5394 Thank you, the best thing to explain is to send you this link, it explains what I am trying to do. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGOYZoicjMxoo6c Is the red wire only a signal to turn on the radio and most of the power is coming from the yellow wire or is the majority coming through the red wire? What I am trying to ask is if I leave yellow connected to the car battery and red is feeding from the leisure battery via a two-way switch is it going to drain the car battery or is the majority of power coming from red and yellow just to keep losing memory in the radio ect.
@joetheboatguy539429 күн бұрын
hello, Red wire will turn radio on and use more of the power. The yellow wire is mostly to keep your setting in radio, but without the yellow wire your radio will not start. Ok with your new explanation and video. I would connect the yellow on vehicle battery since in reality your radio will never be disconnected from vehicle battery. I though you wanted to install your radio in a camper with can disconnect from vehicle but that is not your case :)

@joetheboatguy5394Ай бұрын
Hi pilipoff, thanks for watching. OK here we go, when you are set to BOTH position. startup battery and deep cycle it can be done but it can cause a loss of life of both batteries due to the differences in capacities and charge rates. Hello, thank you for the nice and understandable video. I have a problem in my boat that goes in roughly the same direction. So I installed three more batteries for the installation of my depth sounders. All three batteries have their own circuit. I only have very little space available and that's why I had to carry out the installation like this. I now want to create a potential equalization via ground. Is it possible to incorporate these necessary extensions/changes into this plan as an example? Or can you please explain the necessary changes to me in writing? Greetings from Germany Christian

Hi brod. Thanks for watching both batteries will get charged, but since they have different amperage in the long run, it might affect the batteries. Hi boxout, thanks for watching. OK let me see if I understood correctly, so your lights do not have a ground wire. Is that right? if that’s the case, then the bolts of your lights are your ground which are connected on your trailer which is grounded that way. On your 4 pin in the front, of the trailer you still need to connect your white wire on the frame to ground the rest of the lights. When the wiring diagram shows up on your you tube screen in this video, click on it to freeze the picture. In the lower right of the picture is a little square you can click on to enlarge the picture to the full screen. On your computer keyboard, depress the Alt button on the lower left simultaneously with the Print Screen button (upper right of keyboard to the right of the F12 button). This will capture the image on the screen. Then open Microsoft Word and select a blank page (if there are other options). When it opens, , click Ctrl and V on your keyboard simultaneously. This will paste the wiring diagram onto the blank page. Now select Layout in the blue bar at the top. Click on Orientation and select Landscape. This will rotate the page 90 degrees. Click on Margins (to the left of Orientation) and choose margins that are 0.5 inches top, bottom, and both sides. Click on the pasted diagram and dots will appear at the top, bottom, right and left sides, and corners. You may now click and hold the bottom right corner of the diagram and drag it down and to the right to fill the page. Click the Ctrl and P buttons simultaneously to enable you to print a copy of the wiring diagram so you can refer to it whenever necessary. Also use Ctrl S to save it to your computer and give it a filename you will recognize for future use.

There never was a backup lamp wire in the 7 way it was meant to be used for auxiliary battery charging such as the 12 volt battery in your camper for the fridge and lights this way you didn't kill the tow vehicle battery. The trailer brake battery is on a separate circuit as it is dedicated for that area only. Back in the day trailers were never equipped with backup lamps as you don't see them on highway tractor trailers.
