I was reading about the film Slaughterhouse-Five and this film had an edited piece of it in it. I didn't realize it was an art film, pretty wild story.

As loud as that seems to be, and having gotten an EZ Glow with Kailh Box Whites, I’m thinking the switches themselves aren’t where most of the noise is coming from: the “silents” don’t seem more so than my Kailh Box Whites do, so sounds like either the keyboard design makes a great resonator, or the desk does, or the audio is overly sensitive (no other references in video, can’t tell).

I like your idea to use your own custom raised wrist rests. I was also considering the Kinesis Advantage 2 for a similar reason because your wrists can rest up higher, but your solution just might be the way I want to go.

"silent switch" seems like an oxymoron. This keyboard looks interesting but is just a rehash of stuff from 10 years ago. It is loud, expensive, and basically the opposite of what you'd want around you at an office. That being said - no hate to the uploader and many many thanks for uploading this. I'd really love to see someone who types that truly benefits from using switched keys. This is all the equivalent of tricking out a Honda Civic, or saying that specific shoes make you better at basketball... lol
@holopengin
@holopengin 5 жыл бұрын
Funny you mention shoes when there are rather quantifiable factors that go into shoes, namely comfort, grip, mass, durability, and flexibility (how much you can bend your foot and/or feel the floor). Every sport has different demands and the shoes for them all make different tradeoffs. If you're high level in a sport, bad equipment will either break down faster than is ideal or cause you to make mistakes you otherwise wouldn't. The feel of a shoe is something you can come to expect and heavily rely on to perform at your best.

I came to watch this because the name says "silent". I really expected to see how lovely and silent these keys would be and not hear the sounds of a freight train running over the joints of tracks. This is sad because the keyboard is on a short list I am considering buying. I only hope you are using "cherry blue" switches and not the "silver" I am looking to buy. I need silent like you could hear a pin drop while I am typing. So in short the name of this video is the subject of my complaint. Quite misleading.

I have an ergodox with cherry MX silver switches and they don't sound nearly this loud. So long as you're not bottoming out every stroke, you'll be fine.

Hi Kassie. My keyboard is a geniune Ergodox EZ with Cherry MX Silent Red and not a clicky or tactile switch. As u may have gathered, im am not a pro when it comes to video capture. It was recorded on a Microsoft webcam. I thought i just share the experience of having such a keyboard. But if u prefer a proper review, I suggest u watch Rhinofeed’s video on the switch vs MX Silent black vs Topre vs MX Blue.

Are those wrist rests on top of the EZ wrist rests? I've always thought I would do something like that so my hands hang down onto the keys, just wasn't sure it would actually work!
@chris3791

I was trying to get the same feel of a Kinesis Advantage key well where my hands would hang on the keys. This solution is the nearest thing. See the description on how I built them.
@oldmanyellsatkeyboards
@oldmanyellsatkeyboards 6 жыл бұрын
chris thanks I'm also considering the ergodox after using the advantage for years and that is one thing I would try to emulate what you've done here. Do you prefer the ergodox?
@chris3791
@chris3791 6 жыл бұрын
I find the Kinesis far more comfortable than the Ergodox because of the key wells. I use it the office all day. Given that i have small hands I find that my fingers has to stretch at lot more on the Ergodox. But i love the programmability of the Ergodox. Ive remapped my kenisis as i use a lot of special characters In programming but it has its limitations; I don’t have those issues with the Ergodox. Its worth having both if u can afford it but I would prefer to have the best of both worlds if at all possible.
@oldmanyellsatkeyboards
@oldmanyellsatkeyboards 6 жыл бұрын
Yes I've remapped a bunch of keys on the advantage too trying to find the most comfortable layout but yeah, nothing beats fully programmable. Thanks for your insight!

"Everything from Kramer versus Kramer to the 39 Steps" - yeah, that really is world cinema covered isn't it. "Everything". What Euro-centric hogwash from de Botton. And what a fatal shortcoming in Marclay's piece.

Right, that was the first thing that struck me- apparently not so lots of Anglophone critics and supposed cinephiles fed and not exploring much beyond their Hollywood and British diet. Still, the Anglophone dominance of the film fits the US-UK capitalist tyranny of the clock. Godard's Histoires du Cinéma also has geographic flaws

I know I'm years late on this, but I read an article about this that said that Bollywood films are virtually devoid of clocks. I don't know why South East Asian cinema isn't included, but the two factors could be 1) the people he hired to find the footage didn't know about them, or 2) in order to fit the more cinematic flow of the entire film, he may have decided against foreign films. The goal may have been to make you aware of time passing, but I don't think he wanted to pull you out of the immersion, which may have happened if a non-English language entered it. Admittedly, I do not know what is the case, because I have never seen the entire thing, just clips here on KZbin.

Been fascinated by Christian Marclay since he was cutting up vinyl LPs with dental tools and gluing the pieces together to make new records. Tape on records, things glued on. Saw him in 1988 at the Performing Garage, as a turntablist. Saw his "Festival" exhibition at the Whitney 2 yrs ago. Excited to see The Clock when it returns to NYC. Happy that he's getting recognition for his great art mind.

LACMA will show "The Clock" at the Bing Auditorum on Saturday, March 24th starting at 12 noon for free and it will run 24 hours straight until the next day. "You know you are wasting time when you are aware of it" this video states yet a commentor below writes that they watched three hours without even noticing the time because they were mesmerized. It might be "nuts" and it might be an interesting experience, if you have the TIME.
