The "EVF + Extended" setting for the display only uses the EVF, unless the LCD is pulled out from the camera, in which case the EVF is then turned off and the LCD is switched on.

Thank you for the video. So if I understood well the shutterspeed limit is the lowest the camera chooses? It’s a bit confusing, limit.

That's right. The lowest the shutter speed will go before pushing up the ISO to keep a correct exposure.

nick, at 10:17 that noise isn't really a problem, it looks like film grain from Ilford Hp5+ at 1600/3200 ASA, and thats pushed 3 or 4 stops, and thats quite nice grain; or from natively shot Kodak EkTar 100 when zoomed in, and they say 'worlds finest grain' for this!, so not too bad for a digital sensor.

I have lusted after a m11 monochrom after aquiring and loving my Q3. My drawback is the volume of complaints I have seen in youtube reviews and reddit comments is about firmware problems including freezing, and even complete shut downs requiring return of cameras to the factory. Your thoughts please?
@LeicaCameraAustralia5 күн бұрын
Most of the freezing issues were with the M11. The M11P, M11 Mono and M11D were never as vulnerable to this. Plus there was a firmware update recently which fixed many of these issues. Some freezes were to do with SD card incompatibility; I am reliably told that if an incompatible SD card is inserted now, the camera will report this to the user.

Hi Nick. I just got a D-Lux 8 and would love an updated version of this video. The owner's manual from Leica does not have a good explanation of the JPG settings for the D-Lux 8.

Great to see this, thanks! Question for you if you see this. What was the coldest temperature you encountered while using the D-Lux 8? I just got mine and, living in Minnesota, am wondering if it can take the winters here.

It wasn't that cold, surprisingly. it was summer and the temps rarely dipped below about -5C. No problems for the D-Lux!

Hello threr. I am thinking about buying the Leica Cl and pair it with a Leic Summilux M 50mm.. does it work good with Leica M lenses and Focus Peaking ? thank you very much
@LeicaCameraAustralia5 күн бұрын
Yes that will work fine. Be aware that the CL has an APS-C sensor so your angle of view will be less than on a full frame camera. 35mm = 50mm approx.

SL2-S user here, shooting without hesitation at ISO 25000. - What? That at 9:58 is at ISO 200000??? Is it shot in Vivid colour mode? Absolutely stunning. - ➡️ That leads me to another point. From each other camera brand you get the camera’s internal colour profiles delivered by the raw file to Lightroom Classic, Capture 1, etc. - To make it clear, I am not talking about the Leica Looks what are only LUTs. I am talking about the STD, VIV, NAT, BW-Nat, BW-Hc calibration profiles. Those are profiles, non destructively applied to the RAW data, you can change them at any time, like you can switch between e.g. the Adobe Standard, Adobe Landscape or Adobe Color profile in LrC. Leica is the single brand, not supporting its customers with that in body profiles. That is to me quite an issue because I love the BW-HC and I can’t use it in LrC what is quite a pity, no, let’s name it even a shame. I had several times contact with the Leica support on that issue, but it looks like they don’t understand what I am talking about or won’t or are not allowed to. - In case of you don’t use other brands as Leica, you might also never have seen it before in LrC, Lr or ACR, if so, please don’t hesitate to contact me, you find everything for it in my YT profile.
@LeicaCameraAustralia5 күн бұрын
I understand the question. And no, you cannot choose a LRc Profile to match the in-camera Film Styles found in the Jpg settings. I know this is possible with other brands, but not for Leica. This has been requested many times but I do not know why it is not available. Next time I am speaking to a Leica Product Manager I will ask...
@rolandrick5 күн бұрын
@ Hi Nick, thanks for replying. If your initiative finally would bring the Leica camera profiles to LrC to make the DNGs editable based on the Leica profiles you become the hero of millions of Leica users. I honestly can’t understand why it is missing. It’s like Leica shooting themselves into the knees. That’s the central thing about Leica: to be able to edit the images based on the exceptional good in body profiles. With the jpgs professionally editing isn’t possible. I am asking for this since decades.

@FilmFlab12 күн бұрын
@ ProRes HQ has larger data rates than ProRes Raw and that’s included in the SL3-S.
@LeicaCameraAustralia5 күн бұрын
You are right - so I don't know why it can't be done internally. But is there really much practical and visible difference between Prores Raw and Prores HQ 4.2.2? Maybe if you are doing seriously stylised grading but having worked with raw filming with the SL2-S, the extra gear and workflow cost was not worth it - for me anyways....

Thank you so much for yr video. I own a SL601 and the SL2 in silver 😅. But: For sports there's only one (sorry Nikon): Canon R1. I'm not a fanboy at all. I use Nikon, Canon and Leica. M for light travel and Canon 5D series for heavy 😅 travel with lots of L lenses. Nikon is on repair right now 😊. What's always disturbing on Leica SL is the joystick which is always messing up my settings if I walk around. I don't want to turn it of and on again within minutes! That's why I love Canon. Still lots of improvements to learn for Leica. Sorry but I rather buy a 1DXIII (not an R cam) than another Leica SL. Another minus: The menue and the buttons... there's often a huge change!! That's anoying. Canon have almost the same kind of buttons and menues sincs ages!! Faitrly no huge changes since the Canon 50D! ... 20 yrs ago ...😊

Sorry, no, that's not possible for the zoom. Yes, the camera battery can be charged via the USB port. 1500mA (or more) at 5V.
@acidtears14 күн бұрын
But so what is the actual difference between the Summilux, Summicron and APO Summi?
@acidtears14 күн бұрын
If I were to recommend a beginner a set of primes it would be: 35 and 85. If you go for a 50, you have to get 2 other lenses: one standard wide and one standard portrait. Yes, technically the 50 can do it both, but you will miss the standard wide in close-quarters, and the beauty of a standard portrait.
@acidtears14 күн бұрын
I started shooting with a 35mm Fujifilm APS-C, switched to a 23mm APS-C and never wanted to go back - the 50mm focal length has some strengths but it is too standard for my taste. I can run an entire shoot with just a 35 - with a 50 I would inevitably get into issues with distance to my subject. 35 can handle close-quarters and with a good enough camera (i.e. high MP) you can crop to 85-100 if you wanted to. 33 is even nicer, 28 is borderline wide angle - also a beautiful focal length and for me the last useable focal length for portraiture with out/minimal distortion.

Thanks for the "real world" review Nick. I am impressed with the D-Lux 8 despite the micro 3/4 sensor, the images seem pretty good. A question: I have been reading that the zoom is very slow and awkward to use - how was your experience? Also, lack of tilt screen - any comments? Cheers
@LeicaCameraAustralia5 күн бұрын
Zoom is fine, I didn't find it slow or awkward at all. Tilt screen - I have an SL3 and SL3-S and find I hardly use the tile screen except for low angle shots. Not a deal breaker for me, but each to their own.

I have the APO-Macro-Elmarit-R 100 mm f/2.8 (I bought it after Peter suggested I look at it in the Wetzlar Classic Store), APO-Elmarit-R 180 mm f/2.8, and APO-Elmar-R 280 mm f/4 and tested them on my SL3. They all perform extremely well at close focus and infinity. The latter two hold up quite well to extreme pixel peeping for distant objects on axis.

Just an opinion You set your camera to "multi field" Here is something to think about that I feel applies to the Leica shooters who do buy them for the bling but rather because they are actual photographers. Multi field metering is Matrix metering or AMP metering. First introduced I believe with the Nikon FA. A film camera. I jumped on this innovation when the FA came out. I will say it took me an embarrassingly high number of years to admit this was a handicap and huge mistake. Although I am sure it has improved Matrix metering adds a wild card. It will rob you of your ability to develop the skill of scene evaluation and ability to learn good exposures without using a meter at all. If you shoot in any automatic mode and rely on the exposure compensation dial to control exposure matrix metering will give unreliable and erratic results. This will happen as your movement changes what the matrix sits on and you never really know what the camera is counting, throwing out or how much weight it gives You will not be able to learn to control exposure. Matrix metering is good for those who just want to push a button and hope for the best. My recommendation is center weighted metering. Using this method will allow you to learn how your meter sees and asses any situation. Photographing in any automatic or manual mode will allow for predictable exposure control due to more consistent metering. This is not to get people arguing. There are a number of ways to use any camera and everyone shoots differently. This is just something to think about.
@LeicaCameraAustralia5 күн бұрын
Fair comment. I use multi-field as a starting point but rely far more on exposure highlight warning to set my important highlights to just within the sensor's range. Basically an ETTR approach. It also works regardless of the metering mode although multi-field is the least twitchy!

@@LeicaCameraAustralia Thank you, I too was using the zebra stripes. Something I was familiar with from my betacam days. I am no fan of video but liked that feature. I preferred using that over a histogram. So after I posted this I ended up shutting the zebra stripes as well. I started using the highlight weighted metering. Something I had on I believe a G3 that I really liked. I understood it as center weighted with highlight protection. It seemed to function that way. I could not find a good explanation as to how Leica implements this but other than the occasional crazy result it seems very good. It's fun though, talking about photography and methods. There are so many many ways to get to the end result. What you shoot, how you hold the camera, level of understanding and comfort and personal preference all play into it. So ideas and suggestions are just that. More to think about, try and keep or reject and just know about.
