Instead of….. “hey, it’s a Leica!”……all you need is..”hey, it has an APO lens!”…the side by side 75mm photo done with both the 3 and the 43 really showed the difference in the lenses of each…… well done as usual Mr. Rains……. Thank you

I got mine the day before yesterday (Sept 26th) the day it was presented officially, I actually own one of the first few in my country. I already love it very much, complements the Q2 28 I also have. For sports, wildlife, etc. I use my Nikons (much, much faster AF), but for street the Q3 43 is unbeatable. The lens is breathtakingly good!

Nice video. Since I often find myself cropping my Q3 28mm images, this camera will be my go to FF, AF light weight travel camera along with the 28mm Q3.

Thanks Nick, your reviews are superb! I loved the comparison of both Q3 cameras, I have a Q3 and a Q2M and was very interested to see similar images shot from the 28 and 43mm perspective. Like you, I bounce back and forth from 35 to 50 with my M11, I think about what images I intend to make and my surroundings before I head out and usually grab one or the other, rarely both. I am very intrigued by the new Q3 43, I guess I’ll have to add my name to the waitlist!

Great video Nick, I can see how much you are liking the focal length. 43mm sits so well as a walk around lens, sometimes 50mm is too tight and I often find 35mm a bit too wide.

I like Nick's Videos, very smooth and his voice is soothing . I think buying the q3 for wider shots and q3 43 for everything else is too much - many will get one due to price and not having 2 carry 2 when they are not sure of focal lengths required while traveling and for family pictures . I have a 50 mm on a mirrorless and sometimes it is not wide enough and unable to move back due to boundary limitations etc but with the q3 you can crop for > 28 mm shots and still have decent resolution pics .Having said that , my pick would be 43 due to better perspective for portraits . Now a q4 with a 28-43 f2 lens would be a dream :)

I have mine Q3 43 since 1 week and will use it next week on my first vacation first time intensively. Thanks for showing that differences between older and current version. I was really thinking if it’s a mistake to choose 43 version over the wider one. But now I am confident with my choice.

Thoroughly enjoyed the review Nick. I may pick one up in a year or so once the used ones start popping up in the market. I think that 43mm will be off putting to many people, much like lukewarm tea, as it is neither wide nor telephoto. For me it would be ideal and something I would definitely use as autofocus is becoming a must as my eyes age.

Thanks Nick. I love the original Q3 and have found the 28mm focal length great for travel. I’ve looked at a few other reviews and am considering the new Q3 43. Wish I could have both, but have to weigh the advantages of one other the other.

Love the review thank you so much, I was waiting this camera for ages (I was hoping for 50mm). Said that I am a bit upset to see I cannot attach a filter with the provided lens hood. This is not acceptable, who cares if Q3 43 and Q3 28 have the same dimensions, I want a function tool. Second there is no battery charger provided in the box. I do need 2 batteries, while charging one I want to be able to use my camera. Last but not least why change the color of the classic black leatherette? I do not like it at all. Leica is selling Q3 43 for way more money than Q3 28 but giving us no essential accessories I am really disappointed, said that yes if I can find one I will buy it. I hope Leica send an updated lens hood for Q3 43 that will fit a filter and a free charger to apologize for it stinginess... (This is the case in USA I do not know about other countries, if the packaging is different.)

Excellent perspective on the Q43. As a brand new owner of my first Leica ( a Q2 Mono), wondering if this camera or an SL3 should be my next? Nice things to ponder.
@jayocotube6483Ай бұрын
If you need the SL3 to have great autofocus I would skip it. I really like the SL3 as a slow/no action camera. But...the interchangeable lens piece is really taken care of by my M bodies. When I absolutely, positively have to get the shot on a moving subject I go to the Canon.

Hi Nick, is there any explanation why Leica decided that it is not possible to use a filter with the supplied square lens hood?
@LeicaCameraAustraliaАй бұрын
To correctly shade the lens for the 43mm focal length so as to maximise contrast, the hood needs to be a certain size and there is not enough space between the lens front and the back of the rectangular hood shroud. You can remove the hood and replace it with the supplied lens ring to cover the exposed threads. Then 49mm filters can be fitted as usual. You can then add one of the accessory hoods to this combination.

I was told the f/w update was due in October. And the mics are the Wireless mics and VideoMic Go2. These have the necessary USB output connections (as well as 3.5mm jacks).

If Leica made a Q camera with a zoom lens, say 28 to 70mm, it would be a real winner
@spope6852Ай бұрын
The D-Lux 8 is that camera, just with a micro 4/3rds sensor.
@LeicaCameraAustraliaАй бұрын
To put a zoom on the Q3 body form would mean it would have to be a very slow (f4) aperture otherwise the size advantage would be lost. If you want a small(ish) camera with a tiny zoom, try a TL 18-56 on an SL3. Way better than you'd imagine.

A KZbinr is suggesting that with a filter and lens good on it is not possible to go into Macro mode; because the filter is stopped by the lens hood. Will a Leica filter avoid that problem?
@LeicaCameraAustraliaАй бұрын
Yes. The lens hood is much shallower and, unlike the hood on the Q3, it has a rectangular light baffle. When changing to macro mode the front element of the lens moves forward and there is no room for a filter. I have no knowledge of whether Leica will address this by making a low profile filter. Personally, I don't use filters, but I know some people do. The other lens hoods for the Q cameras will accomodate a 49 mm filter. leica-store.com.au/products/19657
@burrellthomsonАй бұрын
@@LeicaCameraAustralia Thank you Nick. I know, technically, that one shouldn’t use a filter for protection ~ but I am not wealthy enough to be able to easily afford a new front element. Have you had scratches develop on your lenses? Another question: is dust able to work its way in to the rear element of the lens? Without the ability to remove the lens that could be an issue? I am still using my M9 and M8 but by eyes are not as good as they were and the Q3 43 might just be the answer. I like to listen to your very well presented videos and it pleases me to see that your own photos are so good as well! Well done.
@LeicaCameraAustraliaАй бұрын
No, not any problems with scratches. And dust is way less of an issue than people think. You can actually have a surprising amount of dust in a lens and never see any difference in the results. It looks terrible, but affects the optical quality much less than you think. Having said that, as far as I know, I have never had dust in or behind the lenses of my Qs over the years. The IP52 weather sealing certainly helps in that regard.

With the Q3 28mm f1,7 60mp a crop down to 43mm will give very similar results as a 43mm f2. Leica should focus more on size imo the D-lux 8 have a horrible zoom lens the Q3 versions have big lenses. I would love a Qmini or call it a digital minilux.

my Q3 will often go to video spontaneously and can shoot many shots before I realize and loose much. very, very, annoying and others apparently have similar problem. A real turn off since most modern cameras produce great pics. Needless to say, not good for leica to have this problem in 6k point and shoot camera.

Oh dear, oh dear! Perspective has absolutely nothing to do with the focal length of the lens. Its purely distance to subject that governs the perspective.
@LeicaCameraAustraliaАй бұрын
That is true. However, to maintain the same framing (i.e. same subject size within the frame) with a different focal length, your subject distance must change. Therefore with a different subject distance, as you say, the perspective must change too.
@johndennis5233Ай бұрын
@@LeicaCameraAustralia Thank you for your reply. I feel privileged to get one from you. Your are right about the faming, and had a nice demonstration in the video, but the point I was making is that it was the moving of the camera that changed the perspective. Take your stunning picture within Sacre Coeur on the 43. You can achieve the same framing on the 28 taken from the same place by appropriate cropping - and both will have the same perspective. Thank you again.
