I don't know if this will change your mind about the Unrelenting Earth, but I ended up reeeeeally liking where it went towards the end. I ended up feeling much better about the series towards the end the Unrelenting Earth, compared to how I felt about it at the end of The Surviving Sky

Hmm, good to know that the ending is solid. I could return to this series next year. 👀

the gasp I gusped when you said you dnf'd Paladin's Grace!! I'm glad you put a hold on the audio, I'm a big fan of Joel Richard's narration
@CityGirlWriter15 сағат бұрын
Happy to hear that about the narrator. T. Kingfisher's novels are really good via audio for me, especially her fantasy romance.
@Greg_M117 сағат бұрын
✌ Thanks for sharing the DNF list. Yeah, I'm trying to develop a better pre-screening method when looking for the next book(s). E.g. read the Preview if available, read (with a grain of salt) lots of reviews both on YT, Goodreads, etc. Like you say, though, "DNF" isn't necessarily final. :)

I dnfed June Hur's book The Red Palace after being so excited for it because the prose and story read like "good" fanfiction which isn't my preference. But the prose in Crane Among Wolves is so much better! I love how she clearly loves history and her people. So many other Asian authors just use history, folklore and colonization as a gimmick and setting.
@CityGirlWriter15 сағат бұрын
A Crane Among Wolves definitely has better writing than The Red Palace, so I am hoping my audiobook hold can come sooner than later.

Saved by the DNF is a cute title. Legends & Lattes is way better than Bookshops & Bonedust and I'm not a cozy fantasy gal.

September was so slumpy and October is looking much the same. I finished 3 books and read about 500 pages of a 4th book that I finished early this month, totalling about 2000 pages. A 3 star, a 4 star and a 5 star. I think I DNFd 15-20 books in the past 3 weeks. I'm a summer person but it didn't hit me how much until I woke up this morning and it was dark out for another 45 min. It was so hard to get up and do anything.
@CityGirlWriter2 күн бұрын
Ooof, dnf-ing 15-20 in less than a month is a lot! I hope your reading momentum can shift. If not, then probably best to take it easy for a while.

I feel the same about Rakesfall! It was so interesting, but I don't think I can describe it at all!! What's your character for the Magical Readathon? I didn't participate during this equinox, but I'm working on character creation and the Novice Path now, so I should be ready for spring!

@CityGirlWriter3 күн бұрын
Honestly, pick up whichever interests you the most. If you want to read a thriller, then go with Compound Fracture. If you want to read a sci-fi dystopian, then go with Hell Followed With Us.

So glad I found your channel and your commentaries! Subscribed. Though I'm more of a sci-fi reader now, I've read fantasy over the years, too. I'd read and watched a number of reviews of The Spear Cuts Through Water, all of which praised the book as being exceptional. So, I've started it, though have been set back due to time conflicts. For me it has a bit of a slow burn start as the background and characters are introduced. I will continue, in part thanks to your thorough review. I like your presentation style very much. 👍

Hey! 👋My summer reading experience was lovely. The Promise Boys by Nick Brooks and So Let Them Burn by Kamilah Cole were both YA and kept my attention. There's Always This Year is written by my favorite author, Hanif Abdurraqib so I felt extra spoiled this summer. The only bummer was Womb City. It's a good book, I just didn't like how the world building was handled. Oh yeah, I gave The Emperor and the Endless Palace 4/5 stars, but the person I buddy read it with gave 2/5. 😆
