What about the white paint marks from the factory on the carrier if it was touching it would be gone the marks on that carrier is from when it was machined at the factory
@TheBFHGarage2 күн бұрын
Not necessarily, and not in this case. That part of the carrier isn't machined smooth, so the marks (as they are in this case) can be in a slight recess allowing the other part to make contact first. Look at the black part vs. the shiny part. The shiny part used to look like the black part.

I congratulate you! need your advice experience! I have a jeep wrangler jk, a dana 44 rear axle, 30 splines on the axles, satellites were repaired, replaced with new bearings, everything runs well. but at low speed sometimes you can hear in the area of the wheel as if the knock is not big! removed the axle, everything is normal, there is no backlash. the sound is as if a bearing has failed, but it is intact.

Thanks again for a great vid. My 98 TJ has a 4" lift with 1" transfer case drop. I installed upper rear control arms and got everything lined. What I am wondering is can I just measure and buy your set up without changing the yoke at the transfer case? Or do I need more room by doing a sye etc. I have a lunchbox locker, and I have vibration at 50mph I would like to get rid of.
@TheBFHGarage3 күн бұрын
@@bingobandit the whole purpose of a SYE is to eliminate the transfer case drop. When you have a driveshaft built, mate it to the t-case output. That could be a yoke or a flange. I have the 241 t case out of a Rubicon, not the standard 231. Mine has a yoke, not a flange as they usually do. With a 4" lift, you really should get a SYE and a new driveshaft. Then dial in your pinion angle to eliminate the vibes.

@@TheBFHGarage Thanks, I was trying to avoid the SYE or hack and tap. The person I bought it from did the transfer case drop, but it's not enough. Mine is the stock TJ sport 4.0 auto. 4" lift with 33's

@@ivallejo1456 unless it has been rebuilt where somebody changed something, there should be 12 and 12 for this particular steering box. You can take a micrometer and measure to see which ball bearings match the best regardless of color.

@TheBFHGarage i had to measure it with a caliper and now I have 12 6.96mm and 12 6.97mm. Thanks Another thing , when I installed the steering box it doesn't want to turn all the way to the right. Can it be a loose bearing inside?
@TheBFHGarage14 күн бұрын
@ivallejo1456 when you install the bearings, if you're not careful you can have one or two drop into the cylinder housing. If you are getting the full range of motion when bench testing it after putting it back together, then I would start the bearing install over again. It's a PITA but worth it to make sure it's right.

I finally got mine back together after many tries and two steering boxes. I have over 360000 on my suburban and found the inside of the housing was actually grooved. The hardest part for me was the ball bearings. I couldn't get them in there right for the life of me. Finally got it though after I understood all those bearings are meant to be "trapped" between those two holes. Obvious to most people I'd guess but not me.

Your video was a huge help I was able to complete this yesterday. I was able to get a small right angle multi bit screw driver with 1/4 socket attached and small extension. I was able to reach straight in with both hands , arms fully extended to set the socket but only operator it with my left hand. My face was literally jammed against the dashboard . I found it easiest just to do it by feel since you cannot see anything. My gears were not stripped, at first I thought the actuator was missing teeth, but appears to be designed that way. I noticed that the gear was rather loose, which was the issue compared to the new one. Thanks again ! Forgot to add mine was the passenger side actuator. Just follow this video and be patient with it and keep your cool you’ll get it done.
