Why do people run such a wide tyre on the front of a RWD car?
@zrblogic56342 жыл бұрын
It’s not just about getting traction when launching. I know that a lot of Brz/frs/86 owners want a square setup but also want wider tires for better handling. Going staggered means you can’t rotate and definitely changes the feel and handling overall.

Did they not fit at first because the tire size or because the rim size? I was looking at this rim spec but with 235 size tires
@zrblogic56343 жыл бұрын
It was the 255/35 tires that hit the stock strut. The wheels were still really close but cleared without tires. Not sure how much smaller you would need to go to make sure the tires don’t run that stock strut.

I would assume that as long as the tire doesn't bulge over the rim then the fitment should be good? It would stretch the tires a bit but I assume the fitment works.

To make pin easier to go back in use a correct size drill bit as a pilot tool to line up the holes and grab the roll pin in vise grips to just start it. Then use giant size channel locks to squeeze the pin back in (tape or rag to protect sleeve. I wouldn't be hammering on the shifter, ever. Same thing with pin removal push the roll pin through a small 1/4" drive socket and maybe a blunted 8D nail. I am going to be making a new shift knob and that lock out sleeve on my lathe, manual machining.
@zrblogic56343 жыл бұрын
Nice
@600miles3 жыл бұрын
If you rotate your tires, it's a scam by the tire manufacturers to sell more tires. Makes you buy 4 tires at a time instead of 2. More important on an AWD Subaru where they need to all be similar diameters.
@zrblogic56343 жыл бұрын
I rotate so they wear more evenly. The front tires tend to wear faster on the edges and the rear in the middle. I suppose if only two are worn down to the point of replacing I could just buy 2 instead of 4 haha but I’m still gonna rotate because I have a square setup and want the tires to wear evenly.

So you’ve got 18 x 9.5 + 38 on a Stock Suspension, with no Spacers. So having this setup for over 4 Weeks on a Stock Suspension do you think that you could just not get Coilovers. I reckon I could enjoy this look on my 86 GTS for a whole Year without ever getting Coilovers. Years ago I had a 300zx with a Lowered Suspension & it was a Headache parking it somewhere, going over Speed Bumps at an angle & just driving it around lowered on really SHIT roads, having scrapping issues. If I could get away with Awesome Wheels on a Stock Suspension on my 86 GTS that’d be so Awesome!
@zrblogic56343 жыл бұрын
I do have 5mm spacers in the front. I have lowering springs as well but the stock strut is what gives the issue for clearance. Coilovers are smaller so there is more clearance for the wheel so you wouldn’t need spacers. Personally I don’t like the poke that the spacer makes and it’s still running SUPER close to the strut. and if I got coils I would probably still stay at the current ride height (same height as with lowering springs)
