Mayall finally in a production that's subersive on a geopolitica level - and beyond. Unfortunately his geopolitically apathetic core fans prefer crude violent clowning and the insular UK-focused political pantomime served up in 'New Statesman'. Audiences and voters have sadly been de-geopoliticized by the media (especially TV/Hollywood) - and conditioned to dislike, shun and not follow or research "foreign affairs" stuff and issues of major global geopolitical significance which largely explains why this unusually bold, big-themed, subversive series was cancelled after a year. PS. a geopoliticaly subversive show like this would tragically never be produced/commissioned or broadcast in today's Orwellian world... Paul G

I discovered it recently, as a french i have to stop subtitles quite often cause they speak very fluently but i have to admit we were far from thet level in france. Love it.

As elsewhere few comment-posters seem to have ever heard of the many ultra-subversive 'Comic Strip Presents' cult masterpieces - many actors out-perform even Mayall. See 'Eat the Rich', "Supergrass", "GLC"..and many more rebellious gems that would never get funding, backers or TV air-time in today's Orwellian nightmare world... Paul G
@paulgovan35072 ай бұрын
Because the public have been wilfully conditioned not to care or know much about global politics aka geopolitics the series attracted far fewer viewers than Mayall's 'New Statesman' and was dropped after a year. Paul G

This is the genius of Rowan Atkinson... one of the funniest parts of this is the simple look he gives after the Prince says, "You'd think someone was stealing them and selling them." Not sure anybody else could pull that off... Also... I dare anyone to watch this show and then some episodes of "House" and not admit Hugh Laurie is one of the greatest actors of our generation.

Many American viewers are often surprised when the find out that the actor who played the role of a bitter, cynical, insufferable wise-ass GP also used play the role of an ignorant, goofy, clueless, upper-class twit.
