Sonic is certainly unique. This series is changing all the time to appeal to everyone. It's really cool and I appreciate it. Every piece of Sonic media has something good about it. It just has the style. I love the designs of all characters, and each of them are really memorable. And if there is some small issue, you can always fix it, especially with mods and the community. Even Sonic 06, which is my favourite. By the way, a little off topic, but I have a feeling the platinum hits version did get bug fixes, but only certain copies, as I think some contain the original version but with the platinum hits cover, whereas others contain a later, more stable and much less buggy build that was supposed to be released, but wasn't ready as it was too unstable at the time. I've heard it also has slightly shorter load times and improved controls. I think the devs wanted to fix bugs, but the higher ups didn't let them, and so they secretly fixed them without announcing. Of course, this is a wild statement, but there is some evidence that this is true from other claims and reviews I've seen, though obviously it's no p06 or even Legacy of Solaris.

Mortal Kombat 2 is the best because it is the most realistic of the series. In part 3, there's a robot that shoots you with rockets, a man has giant metal arms, and a guy runs so fast you become a tornado and then he scares you to death because he is ugly. That's is absurd. Mortal Kobbat 2 kept the realism of part 1 and upped it, like this is what would happen if you fell into green acid for real: skeletoned. I learned so much about life from this games

The last Smash Game I have played simply by virtue of it being the last game console I ended up owning next to the Xbox 360 was the Wii's SSB Brawl... And for the record I despite growing up in the 80's & 90's flat out liked the games coming out for the Wii hand over fist compared to the 360 that I rarely ever bothered using... I was never great at exploiting Melee in the way so many have managed to make it one of the most high bar to master games in competitions, but I had picked up enough to try several things with Sonic like running up to the opponents in online matches to tap the shield to reset him into a standing position followed by one or two taps of the A button then rence & repeat until I would use the shield to turn around and do a back air kick & or rotating turn grab on the side of the stage... So to me Sonic's movements always felt great & lightning fast compared to the rest of Brawls even with that stupid tripping system... The music on the other hand actually makes a lot of sense to me, Sonic Team for quite a while was practically dependent on the continued support of many older fans while trying to figure out how to draw in new ones with a lower bar of entry to difficulty for younger players... They unlike Nintendo who has always frequently told their fans what they should accept & want to play for themselves would't dare do the same especially since at that time they where already having copyright problems with some of their own music because of the Jackson Estate... Sonic Team looks at fan innovation and support as their lifeblood still after all... The last issue brought up despite it really being a nothing burger is the most relevant, every game creator is going to have their own ideas on what is good or bad game design & inspiration... But even if Sakurai legit didn't like Frontier's after getting it for himself he like most other artists probably shares a great respect for others creative differences & would want to broadened his own kit by seeing how Sonic Team would handle an open world concept even if only for how he might put his own spin on a similar project...

I have always come back to Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask as a set. I used to play through them once a year, not so sure why I stopped. Out of all the classic Sonic games, I weirdly find myself coming back to 2 more than 3. No idea why, I actually prefer the overall experience of Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Maybe it's because Sonic 2 is a shorter play, and I can more easily clear it in a sitting? I find this is a big factor for me in making a game replayable. If I can beat it relatively quickly, I'm more likely to come back to it more often. Some other honorable mentions for my list: Pokemon Red, Pokemon Crystal, Undertale, Super Mario RPG, Kirby Superstar, and Yoshi's Island.
@HatStackMikeАй бұрын
That’s awesome; I keep feeling like I should be going back to those games because I love them so much. I have kind of a weird relationship with Zelda where I would absolutely consider it to be one of my favorite video game series, but with a few exceptions I really don’t go back to the games too often compared to the games I covered in this video. Yeah, I can completely understand that. It’s like how I would consider Super Mario World to be vastly superior to Super Mario Bros., but the original SMB is what I end up playing more often overall. Sometimes you just want those shorter bursts of gaming. Great choices there! Man, I can only imagine how many times I’ve played through Undertale total just to see how certain things would play out differently.

I've been planning to get a desktop gaming PC this year (I haven't found the right one yet) and the fanmade remake Project-06 from Chaos X is one of the games that I will be playing on it. I'm already aware that the final release won't have the story mode and the hub-worlds in it. (unless some other talented modders afterwards make downloadable mods of those parts, which is possible) I understand that I won't be able to try to emulate XBOX 360 version of that game into the PC that I'm looking for due to the recent shut-down of the XBOX 360 Store which made it clear that a used physical copy of the console version is my only choice of how to play it with the story mode and the hub-worlds, so I recently got into ordering one for the XBOX 360 that a friend of mine had helped me to get in August. The game hasn't arrived yet, so Sonic Unleashed is currently the only game that I've been able to play on that old console so-far.

so while I got my start with SA2, the way I first heard of 06 was my dad bringing home a 360 for Christmas with 06 being one of the games he got alongside it knowing me & my brother were Sonic fans. Past me having no standards was able to beat Shadow & Sonic's stories (in that order) with not too much issue, but what broke past me was Silver's campaign having that required escort mission of protecting the one girl from robots. Never beat that town mission & thus never beat the game. I don't think it's lost on anybody who grew up playing this game just how big of an impact 06 had on the franchise. I was 5 when this game came out and played it for the first time when I was 7, it is undeniably a bad game. However, due to nostalgia and personal taste, I found myself really enjoying 06. I really like the concepts, soundtrack, and the level designs, and I can appreciate what this game was going for and what it would/could've been if it was 100% finished. On top of that, as a speedrunner of this game for many years at this point, the game is genuinely amazing as a speedrun BECAUSE the game is bad. The glitches make this game insanely fun to play fast, and the movement gets a lot more smooth and quick when you learn the techniques. (Side note, I think Project 06 has a lot to do with the opinion shifting on 06, since a lot of people play that version of the game now which is a stellar recreation of 06.)
@Tromite2 ай бұрын
Obviously sonic 06. The only reason being against it that I agree with is the fact that p06 already exists and is still being developed. Knuckles chaotix would also be nice as that is so obscure but is also a classic era game, and if you add more features, you can easily make it accessible for many gamers, like add a game mode without the tether. Though I think they'd have to include it in a collection or bundle and not as a standalone title. Origins was their chance to do this. Adventure games I think are most likely as they can just rerelease the 2010 and 2012 remasters and be lazy. Heroes would also be good as that game is janky and was also rush, and so was missed potential to be a worthy follow up to the Adventure games. I don't think they'll do unleashed because of the werehog, but it would be nice to rerelease it to make it more accessible to those who don't have an Xbox or PlayStation. Others are just either too recent or too obscure and unimportant. Off topic, but I would highly recommend Unleashed to any Sonic fan regardless of the werehog, since it has more Sonic stages than most other Sonic games when counting dlc and missions, and those are some of the best in the series, and you can keep replaying once you get through the story. Anyways, do you know if Sonic 06 ever got bug fixes or updates, or whether they fixed the action gauge to deplete properly? I've heard knuckles chaotix was on Gametap. Do you know whether that was emulated or a remake/port on PC?
@HatStackMike2 ай бұрын
Good points all around. I’d definitely be interested to try a non-tether Chaotix. As far as I know, Sonic 2006 never got any bug fix patches or anything like that. There was some DLC, but to my knowledge the added stuff was just as buggy. I don’t know anything about Chaotix being on Gametap, but I imagine that would have just been emulation and not a full remake or anything like that. I’m not very familiar with that service, though.
@Tromite2 ай бұрын
@HatStackMike I thought the platinum hits version might have done that. I think the dlc was also more polished than the base game. I think the characters were made to move faster along with some other tweaks. I'm not sure if other digital rereleases like the Games on Demand version had any changes...
@HatStackMike2 ай бұрын
@trolmite6149 Nah, I think the Platinum Hits packaging was just done once the game sold one million copies or something like that, and no updates were actually made to the game itself. You could be right about the DLC. I never tried it out myself so I can’t say either way, but it seemed like people generally weren’t too impressed with it online.
@Tromite2 ай бұрын
@HatStackMike Yeah, it's interesting though, I'm obsessed with this game and how bad it is. I guess they didn't bother to fix it since it sold well. And if it was fixed, things would have been different. I've heard other people claim it was fixed, but they probably were lucky not to run into any bugs. The dlc update was very minor.

Second best Sonic game of all time right behind Unleashed. Peak OST, peak level design, peak characterization (everyone except Knuckles is at their peak here), phenomenal character designs for everyone except Tails (yup, you're all tripping about Eggman, he looks raw AF here) and ESPECIALLY Sonic and Shadow, those 2 in 06 look better than ever before or since, legit the 06 renders for the cast are to these day the best we've ever received. The presentation is great for the most part, peak script, the chemistry and dynamics of characters are once again at their peak with a few exceptions (Knux and Tails feel kinda lifeless here), directing is peak. The lore is peak. Each Episode focuses on a specific message ut wants to get across, broadly determination and finding one's true self through misfortune for Shadow, how naivety can cloud judgement and the moral ambiguity of sacrificing one to save the many for Silver and learning to occasionally let go of your duties and lower your guard to live life free for Elise through Sonic's core philosophies and all 3 episodes EXCELL at delivering those points across. The story is absolutely epic although I won't argue against the plot holes and inconsistencies cause they are objectively there, I do however wanna point out how hypocritical it is for the fanbase to bush 06 for it and not literally every other game in the franchise that suffers from the same issues. Whether it's Station Square getting completely destroyed but having 0 casualties in SA, Knuckles going from Pumpkin Hill to some random flooded mines and emerging to the surface through a random sewer access and conveniently running into Tails and Amy by pure chance or the moon blowing up having no consequences whatsoever in SA2. Just the way SA2's Knuckles side of things starts is just a mess to, with him and Rouge just standing there bickering about the Master Emerald, you legit feel like you've skipped a dozen cutscenes. The whole existence of Team Rose in Heroes is a giant plot hole in and of itself, with a super contrived reason for Big and Amy to be there and ESPECIALLY Cream. Every single Sonic game falls apart if you start pointing out plot holes and conveniences unless you ignore them. The fanbase does so... Except for 06. Infuriating doesn't even begin to describe it, especially since thematically snd story-wise in the end 06's narrative comes together much nicer than A LOT of the other mainline entries. Solaris is a great villain, with Iblis being cool but of course Mephiles stealing the show entirely, the spotlight is his to command every time he is on screen, best Sonic villain ever, hope he returns for SxS Gens. Then there are things I adore about this game that people hate and I legitimately can't wrap my head around. Why are y'all hating the motion capture? "It looks weird and bad!" No it... Doesn't? Are we even watching the same cutscenes? Aside from occasional lack of eye movement which I agree is a flaw this is the best posing, the best and most expressive body language and the most dynamic and realistic movement these characters have ever received with the exceptions of some Unleashed scenes and Sonic Boom. Like legit, I have no idea what the entire world is on about, they're aninated to nicely, the motion capture truly shines, it's one of these cases where I truly can't comprehend how people think it's bad even when I try my hardest to understand. No copium tho, issues are here. Loading timed are an issue if you're doing Town Missions (not for casual playthroughs tho, they're fine), performance on the PS3 is dreadful (I recommend the 360 version to anyone that hasn't played it, it runs great there), the implementation of Blaze is unfathomably messy, aforementioned plot holes, conceptually phenomenal Mach Speed sections but completely butchered in execution, the occasional mandatory Town Missions interrupt the pacing of the narrative and while NPC dialogues always guide you the right way it's still pretty easy to get lost in Soleanna (peak location btw forgot to mention, love all the lore people give you about the culture there). Definitely a flawed game but s REALLY really good one. I'm not even gonna pretend to be one of the "Yeah it's bad but it's fun" guys I think y'all are coo-coo, game is great. Sonic Man alone elevates it to a 10/10 but I'll be fair snd ignore him for the sake of non-biased integrity, 06 is a turbo solid 7,5/10. Sonic Team wanted this to be the foundation for Sonic going forward, THIS is what they wanted the products to be. The fans rejected it, I will always hate the fans for it because just like Sonic Team 06 is what I wanted the franchise to be as well. As it stands, it ended up being one of the best burgers you've ever eaten at a restaurant but the restaurant shuts down right after, so you'll never get to taste that delicious meal again in your life and the recipe is lost to time. THAT'S what 06 is. PS: Zero nostalgia for this game, I hadn't played a single Sonic gamer prior to 2021 and I'm an adult, I played everything chronologically so not only do I have no prejudices about 06, it straight uo lander right in the middle of my Sonic journey, it wasn't the first, it was the last, this take is not biased infused whatsoever.

In the paragraph about the negatives I also forgot to include the inexcusably terrible skiing segments, Amy's Piko Hammer attack range and Rouge and Knuckles gameplay being both terrible and genuinely the only actually broken aspect of the game casually. 06 isn't actually that broken when you're playing casually, most glitches and bugs require prior knowledge and set-ups to execute, except Knuckles and Rouge, they fumbled soooooo bad.

I whole heartedly disagree. I played the snot out of Sonic as a late 80s/ 90s kid, including Sonic R. Amazing soundtrack, fun gameplay and levels, yet even as a kid I could admit the controls were messed up and the walls were unfinished and nothing was polished. Fast forward to being a teen in the 00s, late teen when 06 hit, and I again had played the snot out of Sonic Adventure 1, 2 and Heroes. Fun games, quirky concepts, awesome OSTs with distinct character, great storylines (I mean, we got Shadow and Rouge and Chaos and the Chao), but still glitched to high heaven with wonky graphics and dialed up drama and having to ignore any logic (remember the scene of the rocket they took that just so happened to lose the Chaos Emerald shards by opening the entire roof? And just so Knuckles and Rouge had space levels???). The difference is I can appreciate those game's good qualities while recognizing the awful parts. I don't worship, defend, nor go apologist for them like you have with 06, trying to convert us on liking it when we experienced it WITH the Game Grumps... and not just watching them with the viral moments but seeing them in that much pain AFTER we had experienced the same things repeatedly at home. That's what hurt the most about Sonic 06: it COULD have been an earth shattering game! It could have been direct competition to Mario Galaxy! It could have been what I took to my music professors and say, "Here is proof even children's gaming is modern opera, here are the themes and characters and melodrama, the difference is the music is designed to enhance your performance of each character in the epic rather than sitting as a passive observer in the audience." It could have been genre changing in every capacity... yet we got a game that children played not knowing any better that keep their nostalgia goggles on shaming the rest of us for not understanding them. But we do understand, and we have mourned for years! The OST is beautiful. The level design is great. The world was creative. The graphics on the whole were the best they'd ever been. Everyone was excited for Blaze and Silver, and I mean EVERYONE, and they lived up to the hype despite the world falling apart in both times (ba dum tiss). The villains and story, I mean, Sonic finally got around to appropriating actual irl mythology and taking on Zoroastrian gods, not unlike Marvel redoing Norse mythology or YuGiOh bastardizing Ancient Egyptian beliefs. We won't talk about Elise because humans have always been awkward in Sonic (excluding Eggman/ Robotnic who are clearly human adjacent lol) and that romance plot should NEVER have existed nor Cuzco's kiss of life... But come on! 06 was bungled every step of the way. We were lied to, shamed for not appreciating the game you couldn't just play but had to puzzle out unwritten rules, and now we're getting it all again by nostalgia glasses apologists like you. We wanted to love 06, but couldn't due to how they disrespected us players by releasing it in that condition. And when you grew up playing buggy games but loving them anyway...? Having your heart broken by 06 was finally admitting you had a limit, that speed games shouldn't be an obstacle course in beer goggles to control, that we had to spend our time on other things than learning how to get past glitch after bug after everything else that should never have been in it in the first place. Tl;dr We WANTED to love Sonic 06, but we didn't have the time to puzzle out glitch after glitch after glitch like the kids who barely or don't remember 9/11 did. We were betrayed by it, and honestly, felt like a breakup. You had such potential 06, were and are beautiful in so many ways, but the crazy was too much... and your only option was to find an audience among kids who didn't know any better like every other cougar and neckbeard.

@@Undomaranel I'm not worshiping or copium-defending 06, I'm *properly* defending it. Calling it plain worshipping is kinda whack, especially since I spent almost 2 paragraphs on pointing out objective negatives. I don't think it's a perfect game, I don't think it's a phenomenal game, I think it's simply pretty great. What I take issue with is extremism, and yeah, I will stand on that hill proudly. I dislike Heroes, Colors and S4:EP1 A LOT, you'll never hear me saying "absolute trash, 1/10, what were they thinking, terrible" cause it's not, it NEVER is with mainline entries. I can dislike Heroes all I want but I still recognize the phenomenal environmental storytelling and concepts, Metal being based AF, the Shadow Androids being an amazing set-up for Shadow the Hedgehog to expand on, the team gameplay being BRILLIANT in concept and well enough implemented in execution. I dislike the tonal approach and level design but I see what they were going for, it's the most Classic Era-esque 3D game they've ever made. Colors, hate it, I wanna slam dunk it in the bin. Guess what? A fine platformer. Level design is good, presentation for the Wii is 👌, Egg Planet Park is BRILLIANT in concept AND execution, Colors in general just blooms with creativity. The Wisps I like lore-wise and Colors DS did some solid reestablishing of dynamics, mainline Silver and Blaze. Both Heroes and Colors have amazing OSTs, some of the best in the series. Even with a quick rundown of my thoughts on them, from the way I talk about them could you tell I find Heroes barely a 6/10 and Colors a 7/10 when I fairly rank them while I would personally and subjectively give them both a 4/10 purely on my own fun factor? THAT is what 06 haters lack, you will NEVER find that with 06, never. People DON'T WANT to be fair with 06, people ENJOY pretending 06 was a complete disaster. There are objective positives with 06, people take pleasure in avoiding them and only spamming the negative. You see 06 haters everywhere proudly proclaiming they've never touched it but call it the worst game ever made just cause. That IS bias, textbook definition. And btw I never played it as a kid, I played the entire series for the first time in 2021 and 2022 so 0 nostalgia here, so your whole point falls apart completely there. The fact that you just assumed I was either a kid or nostalgia blind honestly reinforces my points (especially since I literally said this in the OG comment too lol, you literally just didn't read it all), instead of the game getting dissected and critiqued *I* got dissected and critiqued for both liking it and properly defending it with points. Matter of fact, most 06 enjoyers I've met never touched it before adulthood. And I've played every mainline game at least 3 times at this point, my favorites more times, 06 included. Especially on the 360 06 runs fine, Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog and Colors are way more broken casually, at least most 06 glitches need prior knowledge and set-ups to execute, on casual playthroughs it's stable enough.

I swear i keep seeing people saying unleashed needs a remaster and I'm just going to say this tell me what needs to be fixed the game ain't buggy the story is good were hog was always intentional there's absolutely nothing it needs just eat the pc port when it releases

I agree with advance getting a remake but I'll also want a port for people to experience the og games and then get a remaster that includes new playable characters like shadow and emeral

Yeah, that’s a good, compared to other Sonic games, there’s nothing in Unleashed that really needs to be “fixed”, as for better or worse, all of the design decisions were completely intentional and the game isn’t buggy or anything.

Yeah, at this point I’d just like to see the Advance games actually get ported. I’d love playing Sonic Advance 3 on my Switch, small resolution and all. HD remakes would still be the dream, but, I’m not holding my breath for that one.

@@HatStackMike I have the game and it's not bugging at all and when some people say they want a remake is so werehog can be removed even though it defeats the story as it was always intentional compared to something like sa2. Which ooooooh needs a remake more than a game that's basically perfect the light speed dash bugs in sa2 sonic is bouncing whenever you are green forest because of all that speed meanwhile unleashed is polished that's why I don't think unleashed needs a remake or master because of people saying 60fps just ask for a PC port

I agree that Sonic Rush could use a remake with minor tweaking. It was popular and would probably sell well since Blaze is so popular. I would love to see the Sonic Adventure games remade! And you're right, Sonic Adventure needs love more than SA2. I could even see them modernizing the Chao Garden with phone app integration to make a new Mini Chao Garden. This way, you can take your buddies with you just like back in the good ol' days. Pokemon does something similar with Pokemon Home, and I think it would be an awesome touch to top off the experience. It'd be fun if you could race and fight your Chao with your friends online, too.

Yeah, they could definitely bring back the Sonic Rush games with a little bit of work done to them, which I would love to see. Sonic Rush Adventure sold badly and that’s one of my favorite Sonic games, so I would love to see that get more exposure. Oh yeah, I wasn’t even thinking about the Chao Garden when talking about the Sonic Adventure games! I love the idea of a Chao Garden app that integrates with a theoretical Sonic Adventure remake!

Hope they keep the rush models but refine them

@@Sonic-q6i Oh yeah, the models could definitely use some touching up. They would look a bit rough in higher resolutions, haha.

Sonic Mania isn't mentioned here? (Forces is, which is far worse and came out the same year. Mania should NOT be forgotten!) (Also I don't consider Mania Plus to be a remaster, more just a quick testing ground for some ideas that didn't make it into the base game. The new Encore Act 1 in Mirage Saloon is definitely the big highlight.)

I could never forget Sonic Mania! It’s my 2nd favorite Sonic game ever made. I just didn’t think it was relevant for this topic.
@Sonic-q6i2 ай бұрын
Mania doesn't even need a remaster anyways
@kakhome12 ай бұрын
@Sonic-q6i Basically true it's already an S tier game, probably top three in the franchise, and widely accessible to modern consoles but if it did get a remaster I'd definitely offer a choice of lives/no lives and a Mania or Encore level layout choice even if playing in Mania Mode (you wouldn't have to get Sky Chase Mirage Saloon Act 1 as any character for instance, and could play the slightly harder Encore layout versions of other levels with normal palettes and playstyles). That customization could have just been there in Plus from the start...Maybe also one extra fully original level as a bonus! Oh and also properly develop the boss of Titanic Monarch for all modes, it's just a missing cherry on a cake thing but could still address it

@@kakhome1 yeah that would be a rerelease for the first two points you mentioned but here's the thing sega ain't Disney you're not getting a remaster of a game that came out when say Moana did Disney is making two Moana movies at the same time Moana that's what Disney is doing sega wants to move forward ik remasters are a step back but it's because not everyone was born at the same time
