What is it that you have around your canvas? Is it a bungee or rope, I assume to help the sides tuck in when collapsing the roof. I’m interested in doing that to my Sun Lite Eagle. Thank you.
@ChrisTarzanClemensАй бұрын
A bungee cord. I tied it around the canvas and added some carabiners that I can tighten or loosen when I'm ready to raise or lower the top. Works pretty well!

I felt safe throughout the whole trip. I was fairly careful and aware while traveling and often I was camping with friends and stuck to somewhat busy areas. I know things can happen, but for my experience so far I felt very safe and secure in the places I visited in Baja.

I drove the baja last winter. I ran into a lot of people using Starlink. They said it worked really well except when there were overhead trees blocking the signal. Starlink is also half the price once you cross into Mexico

why were you getting so many flats (4 flats in 2 weeks?).. was it because of the weight of the panniers? did you have a defective tire? doesn't make sense to me unless if you were just not lucky with the sharp objects.. to put it in perspective.. i rode the whole South America (6 months) and only had 1 flat..
@ChrisTarzanClemens4 ай бұрын
I'm really not sure, I think most flats I was able to find a small piece of debris poking through the tire into the tube. The tires, and bike, were pretty inexpensive, if I was doing a longer tour I definitely would have bought some better tires that probably would have fixed my problem! Cheers!

Hi there. can you remember the name/date/location of the festival at 11:56 ? Thanks
@ChrisTarzanClemens5 ай бұрын
It was the FEIRAS NOVAS festival in September and it was in Ponte de Lima, Portugal. We were told it's the largest folk festival in Portugal, and that rooms were going to be hard to book last minute as we were walking through the area. They were, it was busy, but it was fun to experience the festival for one night! It looks like the 2024 festival is September 4-9.

Time to go tubeless. Changing tubes in the rain isn’t that much fun! It would have been nice hear you talk about the names of the places you were passing through and where you found nice small roads and where you were pretty much stuck on the highway. Very familiar with the crazy driving in Thailand so nice to know for route planning. Great riding and scenery. You knocked out some serious mileage!
@ChrisTarzanClemens8 ай бұрын
Thank you! I had a good mix of small side roads and highway, it kinda depended on the day, the distance I was feeling I could do, and the options of accommodations that I could find on Google Maps. Honestly riding along the highway wasn't too bad and helped cover distance, but the side roads were definitely more interesting! Cheers!

Thank you! I searched for quite a long time to find an older slide in that was built for a mid-sized pickup like the Tacoma vs. a full size truck. Hi Chris! Thanks so much for sharing. I know this was a while ago, but we recently bought a 1998 Sunlite Skyhawk that someone did some good work on, but we're having issues with the furnace. Any tips for this? The thermostat shows its increasing temp but no fan or heat comes on. Thanks in advance!
@ChrisTarzanClemens11 ай бұрын
Hmmmm, I never really got too much into my furnace, mine wasn't restarting on the cycle so I ended up taking it to an RV shop and had them service it. Fixed it for awhile but now it's back to the same. I did try to look up some KZbin videos about people fixing them but didn't find much. Maybe try the Pop Up Truck Campers group on facebook (facebook.com/groups/148799105503630). Good luck!

Really cool setup. What exact suspension upgrades did you do? Where’d you get the leaf springs? Are you running timbren ses bump stops? did you do any front suspension work? I want to do a similar setup on my frontier
@ChrisTarzanClemens Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I started with a Bilstein lift on it, around 2.5", but that was before I put the camper on the truck. Once I added all that weight I switched to Load Range E tires for more support. I the put a set of Firestone Ride-Rite airbags on the rear, but the camper was so heavy I bent the brackets. I took the truck to a custom suspension shop in Phoenix, AZ and they arched and fitted custom leaf packs on the truck to balance it and make it stiff. That was about $1,000 and was weeeeelllll worth it! I have more specific notes on my blog post here: www.christarzanclemens.com/2020/04/living-full-time-in-a-slide-in-pop-up-truck-camper/

@ChrisTarzanClemens Жыл бұрын
@@bruceberg3574 sounds about right for the factory weight, but I added a bunch of stuff like solar panels, accessories inside, cabinets and such. It's pretty heavy once on the truck with everything I own, plus 22 gal of water and propane. Heavier than I wanted, but made it to the top of Alaska and back, so the truck can do it!

Dude, you are very talented. I need a pre-assembled truck with all the bells and whistles like yours...will you sell me yours? My adventures are pale in comparison to yours. For example, I camped in Acadia NP in my RAV4. The seats are moved forward and custom 18" boards secured by headrests and rear seat edging. Add a 4" tempur-pedic cushion and you have paradise. LOL.
