In February I met my brother in Canyonlands National Park and we drove the White Rim Road to White Crack Campground. This was the first test of my 2002 Tacoma with a slide in pop up truck camper. The Tacoma truck camper did great, we enjoyed beautiful vistas, spent 2 nights at White Crack Campground, and had an epic adventure.

White Rim Road/ The sunset slowly going down/ A few beers to share/ The wind the only sound/ Melting colors, the rim a glow/ Evidence of ice and crystal snow/ And oh! the bone chilling cold/ But we were strong and bold/ We were carring a heavy load/ Mud and muck/ 4- wheel truck/ We survived with skill and luck/

Very good video,going with replacing your air bag is the best bet on a trail like the WRT. Our group of TC's came off the WRT Dec. 02, 2021. Due to pasting storms in the last 2 months the WRT was left in the worst condition I've ever seen it.

Awesome landscapes. Got to put that one on my bucket list. Does your brother have a YT channel? Would like to know more about his Raptor because I'm thinking about buying a used first gen model.

Thanks! My brother doesn't really KZbin, his Rapotor is mostly stock with some custom bumpers, and he loves the truck! He did build out a custom camping setup in the back with sliding drawers and a sleeping platform.

Awesome footage. When was this adventure? Notice it was prior to the Ram mirror mod

Thanks! Yup, I finished most of the renovation work in Indiana over the winter of 2018-2019, did this trip in February on the way to Arizona to finish the project before heading up to Alaska for the summer of 2019. The clip-on mirrors fell off in the first few weeks and spurred the Ram mirror project in AZ.

How heavy is the camper
@ChrisTarzanClemens
@ChrisTarzanClemens 3 жыл бұрын
It's pretty heavy, though I didn't just weigh it alone. Once I put it on, added everything I own and filled the tanks, I think it's nearly 2,000 lbs. So, pretty heavy. But, it made it to Alaska and back, so so far so good!

Nice rig! Can’t beat a taco! Sold my last one w nearly 300k still running strong.....what camper is that?
@ChrisTarzanClemens
@ChrisTarzanClemens 4 жыл бұрын
That's awesome! Mine has 225,000 on it now, hoping for 300K! The camper is an old 1989 SunLite slide in camper. I don't think the company is still around, but they are on Craiglist now and then!

Chris Clemens did t you live in a van? Assume your full time in the taco camper? Which you prefer?
@ChrisTarzanClemens
@ChrisTarzanClemens 4 жыл бұрын
@@rmoran113 Now I prefer the truck, but the van was good for 3 years. For me I was ready for more off road exploring and the old 2WD VW van wasn't prepared for that kind of travel!

A drone would have been ideal for the recordings! Just carry a few batteries and recharge them during the night!
@ChrisTarzanClemens

Agreed! I actually do have one, I'm better at crashing it than flying it, but they aren't allowed in Canyonlands, so that saved me from crashing it on this adventure, ha!

Chris Tarzan Clemens I think I’ve seen a drone picture in one of your videos now that I think about it. And that makes sense, a lot of parks or national forests don’t allow them. I have the DJ Mavic pro, and you can actually lock onto an object and it’ll follow that object at the distance you you locked onto it. The drones are pretty neat. THAT WAS SO NICE OF YOU TO GIVE US THOSE NICE RECORDINGS OF THE VEHICLES DRIVING, THERES SO MANY PEOPLE INCLUDING MYSELF THAT PROBABLY WOULDNT HAVE RAN THAT MUCH! ... LOVE THE VIDEOS, I AM HOPING THE ONE DAY I WILL BE TRAVELING/LIVING OUT OF MY TACOMA LIKE YOU!

Could a van/car make it in in dry conditions
@ChrisTarzanClemens
@ChrisTarzanClemens 4 жыл бұрын
I would definitely want something with high clearance for rocks and ruts, some burly tough tires, and having low range 4WD helped for crawling slowly both up and down rugged slopes. While the road in dry conditions might not be too technical, if you'd end up having a problem you're very far from pavement and recovery would be pretty difficult. The staff at the Canyonlands Ranger Station are very knowledgeable about the area and conditions, and asking them would be your best bet! Cheers!
