I'm using 2.3 at tassle and 2.1 at brown silk as a guide. This crop literally went from tassle to harvest without rain and 100f from dent on. I think getting the K level right early on kept the yield above 200 in that part of the field.

Let me know how things go. As I improved K, I also found the crops got larger so just doing the grain removal on P was starting to get behind. Had a big donut hole in the field were P had dropped to 9ppm using bray 1. So keep an eye on that. The other thing I stumbled on was my soil lab switched to mehlich 3 methods for ALL of their extractions. In heavy CEC soil and the calcium levels, this was often 2 to 3x higher for P than the bray 1, more like bray 2. If I was relying on these morons I'd be sitting there smugly thinking my P needed to be cut back. Do it yourself, don't trust the advisers.

I just received my 277 GDU tissue tests back. They are at 5 percent for potassium. Very happy. 6 years ago we were around 2. Have a great day.

I think we're heading in the same direction here. We limed last year and deep ripped for the first time after 8 years of no till with broadcasting. Thanks to the ripping and wet spring we're leveling with a disk and cultivator which will incorporate this latest P-K. I think next year the same plan of 10gpa 10-34-0 is right on as the P-K levels will be built up, maybe some maintenance broadcasting down the road. It took a lot of time and some years of profitable crops to be here.

Agreed. Early heat is fine on the corn. We're getting excellent nutrient uptake and it's knee high 4 weeks after planting. 74 here this morning, first time in a long time. Avg temp for the first field since planting 90.2F, average for the last field since planting 86.2f.

Pretty pleased. I had some farmer issues that showed up, but some >200bpa areas where I've been working on the management that made up for it. Second season after grid sampling. first payoff was fixing pH which immediately payed this year. Next is leveling our P and K levels that showed at harvest this time.

I'm planting 116 and 117 day varieties this year. I have run 109 and 102 day as well in the past with the same idea to get through to dent before the heat. Now that the fertility build is on track I might check into it again next year. So far my opinion is to build the best plant possible before May 29, then see what happens. I had near 9 ft. plants this year with ear sizes shrinking from 7.5 inches to 6 inches by harvest. If only local local land grant university were running some trials....

That's probably a good sound method. I kept getting problems when I used 80 or 90 in the formula. Congrats on the healthy ear counts.

Just about spot on. We are at 2950 gdus on 7/11 and 18% moisture. Went from an average length of 7.5 inches to 6.5 inches with no rain and 100s since May 29. We can't go from v5 to mature here on a full profile with the heat of June, wish we could. I did though get some April 18 sweet corn to sneak through by June 24 in spite of the conditions. @@TwoHappyChildrenFarm We planted 3 with 6" apart then 7' between the 3. We can make 280 bu/ac irrigated 30,000 and 60 bu/ac in dryland with this spacing. If we planted 13,000 then the yield could be 110 or failure.

down here the 'cool' kids use planes to fly on urea. I saw it a lot this year. Can't imagine what 40# of N costs with a plane. It takes a lot of trips. Some guys Y drop at tassle because the have potassium starved crops that are only 5 feet tall, so you really don't need a Hagie. These areas correlate with low K and low P as well. I had the Helena guys grid map last year, it's eye opening.

I agree on the B and Zn. I chased by numbers all season on those two. Both were low. I did treat at Vt last week, 1qt Zn, 1 pt B.

I just set it the way Thompson sent the hardware. It's been a while, but I think they send 1 spacer for each, probably ending at 1.5 inches spacing over the furrow.

What are the odds? I'll hold off for 10 days or so that you can shovel out.

Well I think for most northern farmers, it would be eye opening and fun. I grew up farming in N. Illinois. A big difference is we never freeze solid and it seems like unless it's too wet, you can be in the field doing something. It might drive you crazy as well, who knows. Thanks for watching.

Well all that snow should really mellow out the soil!! Think of all the free nitrogen! So a reminder, this was 8 year no till, then redone this year after liming. It's interesting to see how loose the soil is and how the moisture sinks in. It's like farming different land compared to where I've been tilling.
