@@OKFrax-ys2op Good question. I think AGM batteries are fine outside of the van as Winnebago designed it here. They have some cold resistance. Lithium batteries are definitely sensitive to cold temperatures and many owners upgrade to lithium and put them inside the rig.

Good on you to show the failed attempt, explain why it failed, and for trying it in the first place. I think the major fail here belongs to Winnebago. This should (a) never have been necessary if the tank were properly designed; (b) should have been a factory recall that any dealer would be required to fix; (c) should have come with instructions, screws, and pilot holes where necessary. Frankly, it looks like a knee-jerk fix to a bad design and does not instill much faith in that company for me (someone currently considering buying one). Winnebago should be replacing the tanks themselves rather than offer a rigged modification for owners to DIY. The new tank should be enclosed in a thin tubular aluminum or PVC coated heavy-wire mesh housing to prevent expansion. Similar to what you see large plastic water tanks encased in.
@roadstoke5 ай бұрын
I appreciate the comment, I think you’re right. After a dozen more fill ups, the tank still expands far enough to push out the cabinet so I’m trying to get more help from Winnebago. It’s clear now the tank was poorly designed and I think the tank fill overflow valve isn’t robust enough. I doubt many people even use a pressure regulator like I do. I may have an update video coming again hopefully with a good solution!

It would be nice to park in the garage. The Solis 59px is 9’6” tall, it’s not even close to fitting in our standard two-car garage let alone under the open garage door. I don’t know how tall the Solis with out AC and poptop is but that won’t likely fit in most garages either.

Can’t blow your tank by filling,
@roadstoke5 ай бұрын
I guess by blow out I mean the tank expands like a balloon and pushes out your cabinets like mine do. For those researching, Winnebago acknowledges the problem and there appear to be 3 versions of the tank and version 3 appears to be the strongest. They sent me a tank brace to install but it isn’t working to stop my v2 tank from ballooning. I’m in discussions with them on getting version 3, I hope. Unfortunately my tank blows out at 25psi and filling to only 3/4 full. I recommend buying the pressure regulator and never overfill the tank!

So…you’re renting the van out until it is paid off and then will stop? Same here. We don’t have a lot of “competition” in our area as far as other rentals but I figured replacing with Lithium would be a nice selling point for prospective renters plus we will appreciate the added battery life. Do you charge your Solis when it is at home on a trickle charger or is it used frequently enough for that to not be necessary? Thanks for the video!

If the tank is well designed, it should briefly bulge to deal with water movement (sideways in turns or vertically in bumps) but then return to its original shape. It could be that your brace caused the movement of water to push on the cabinet rather than just briefly bulging the water tank. I forget what you said in your first video but if your tank doesn’t have a permanent bulge that needs support, maybe all you need to do is remove the brace and repair the cabinet (maybe just gentle hammer work?).
@roadstoke6 ай бұрын
@@maxwest720 I appreciate the insights! The cabinet was easy to re-anchor with the stock brackets. My tank bulges often but doesn’t go back to its original shape unfortunately. I have to push it back into shape pressing hard with my feet. I’ve seen another tank model out there, I may look into it…
