Where's the heat shrouds connecting the fans to the heatsinks for either of them? You'll surely cook the already failure-prone GPU (the Falcon at least as that's working) without it.

It's got a bad GPU so it's inevitably going to have issues and also. How can you even tell if the console is well maintained or not?

@CliffNark only bad gpu when heated up and cooled with shitty thermal paste, simple if it's still working it was well maintained.

@@OrdinarySimonTheJoe Even the best thermal paste replaced once a year wouldn't keep an X02056 Xenon GPU from dying with regular use The chip itself is flawed and there is no fix other than to replace the chip with a revised one like X817791 which is what Microsoft did to defective consoles once the issue was determined

It's the low thermal glassification temperature of the chip's underfill, causing rapid thermal fatigue in the solder bumps The issue was fixed when the 70°C underfill was swapped with 85°C underfill to cope with the 75/78°C operating temperatures of the chip

It really wasn't really the fault of Microsoft for the faulty GPUs since they don't build them, even the PS3s had faulty GPUs and alot of other devices had the chip issues from around the same era

Some clues: 1. If it works 2. If it has a service date 3. If it has a newer DVD drive e.g. (Xenon with Lite-on)

I have a console nearly like that. Same manufacture date, had the same issue, same fans, same condition. Only difference is mine had a disc drive from August 2008 so the GPU should be good.

There's no way the console can instantly overheat by being on a thin carpet Microsoft wouldn't design a console with such an obvious design flaw, hence why it has 5 other openings for airflow

If you see an AV only console with a service date from 2009-11, then it's an Elpis. Also, the GPU die will have Elpis written on it
