We arrived 'the first time' in 66. This really was a golden era. Direct flights to the base, you wore a tie & jacket to fly, and our first tour was in the very same N.C.O. housing shown here. Second tour we lived across from the golf course practice green. If it wasn't for the Horror 600 miles west I would say it was magical.🇺🇲✈️

Thank you for the trip down memory lane. The house that you were first at off base. Was that in Diamond Subdivision? It sure seems familiar. I think it might have been ours in 68-70. Prior to moving on base. Into the NCO housing the prefabs we still have the gate sign Dad had a thing about the word “This’ll Do” so thats what was painted on it. 97% of the people probably thought that was the last name. There were some real winners on the gates. The Millers Staring Jim and Jane with supporting cast Jim Jr. Bill and Karen. A feather Bed production.

@f.w.2054 Жыл бұрын
Was there in 1970. Lived off base but can't remember what residential neighborhood it was. Does anyone remember a round (maybe octogon) shaped outdoor/indoor shopping center in the middle of nowhere. I think it was for the poorer filipinos, but I may be wrong. It was dirty and smelled bad by U.S. standards, but my sister and I loved going there because it was authentic and real. I loved the Phillipines and the people. 53 years later and I would still love to go back!
@DollytheDoxie Жыл бұрын
We left in '67 I don't recall the shopping center probably because I wouldn't be allowed to go. I would like to go back also what the government did with the base if very impressive.

Hi Dolly. Thanks for documenting this. Currently watching your video from the #ML50 playlist, a 30+ hour playlist documenting scenes before, during, and after the dictatorship, from a variety of sources, including civilians such as yours.

Thank you for your comment. I cannot find the movie or playlist and have researched the film's director Joel Lamangan. A lot of what I find is in Tagala, which I can't understand, but there seems to be some controversy over whether it's propaganda or not. If you've watched, this was my footage given credit? I'm concerned about copyright protection and not being given credit. Can you help me out with any of this? Sandra Townsend [email protected]

I was born at the Clark AFB hospital in 1965. Dad retired in ‘76, and we moved back to Angeles. Paseo de Espana was a street in our subdivision, Villa Angela, closer to the San Fernando border, around the Nepo Mart area. We still own the house in Villa. Actually going back in two weeks, first time since the pandemic started.

Before Vietnam, the USAF would send us through what was called "Snake School" (Jungle Survival School) there at Clark. What a beautiful base! Too bad that beautiful volcano, loomed over the base, blew up in 1991 and covered the base with ash. A recent video, I saw, shows the area has been pretty much cleaned up from that disaster...but there are still many building that have just been abandoned since the USAF left.

I lived in the NCO housing and used to watch some of the guys drop by chute in the neighborhood they didn’t need any help but we’d try. The base would have a tank truck fog the residential areas for mosquitoes, we lived in a cinderblock house with screened windows and a thatched roof, we had 2 house girls Cora and I can’t remember the name of the other. When we left my dad tried to give Cora his car, but she opted for my bicycle

It's a shame this is silent, but even without sound, this is such an interesting video! They were there about 4 years before us. SO many similar experiences - playing outside in a typhoon, kalesa rides, being exposed to bizarre Filipino holiday rituals and the brutality of cockfighting, awkward tropical Christmas celebrations far away from family, strange gifts..such as the carved wooden water buffalo the little girl got for her birthday, also the carved warrior in loincloth under the xmas tree. Festive! I have to say the older brother was the coolest guy ever - he had a freakin' motorbike!! Why did we not have these?! Also, he was a groovy dancer AND wore sunglasses inside at xmas..that's some cool shit. The other brother, not so cool but did have a "Look at me! I'm a rock star!!" moment with his new guitar. So much fun to watch this..although they appear to have lived in a nicer subdivision than we did. Daddy must have held rank..which would explain the close up footage of Hubert Humphrey : ) LOVED this, thank you so much for posting it!!
@DollytheDoxie2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your lovely response! How funny to compare our times with yours. And about my brothers so funny! The oldest one fell in love with motorcycles at a very young age. He worked hard to earn money, but my other brother always thought he was the cool one, the Beatle hair cut, boots and always showing off for the girls. And most of all, holidays away from home and extended family. I am actually writing a memoir of my family and all our military adventures. My dad reached the rank of MSgt which was rewarded by sending his family to Clark. He worked for headquarters in Ground Safety his office was right on the flight line so he got first hand access to Bob Hope, Humphrey, President of Viet Nam and more. I hope you'll check out the other videos. Someone who worked for my dad at Clark found the movies that he and his wife were in and found me!
