I got to Clark in 1968. There was a reason it was the most extended tour assignment in the U.S. Air Force, and not just the because of the offbase entertainment. Great people.

My dad's office, Ground Safety was located in a Quonset hut next to the flight line. I saw many C-130s come in with wounded from Viet Nam and shot up F4s. I joined the Air Force in 1975 as an air traffic controller stationed at Randolph AFB TX. Thanks for watching! Sandra Townsend

I'm from the Caribbean and the more I look at old video footage of the Phillipines, the more I realize that island peoples have a lot in common. The women carrying loads of their heads; the street side markets and vendors, the boys diving for coins. Even the carabao (the animal we call water buffaloes here). Many of these thing have almost completely disappeared. I'm glad I vsiisted the Phillipine before and I will return.

Thank you for the trip down memory lane. The house that you were first at off base. Was that in Diamond Subdivision? It sure seems familiar. I think it might have been ours in 68-70. Prior to moving on base. Into the NCO housing the prefabs we still have the gate sign Dad had a thing about the word “This’ll Do” so thats what was painted on it. 97% of the people probably thought that was the last name. There were some real winners on the gates. The Millers Staring Jim and Jane with supporting cast Jim Jr. Bill and Karen. A feather Bed production.

We arrived 'the first time' in 66. This really was a golden era. Direct flights to the base, you wore a tie & jacket to fly, and our first tour was in the very same N.C.O. housing shown here. Second tour we lived across from the golf course practice green. If it wasn't for the Horror 600 miles west I would say it was magical.🇺🇲✈️

I was born and raised just a couple of hundred meters away from Clark's original main gate. I was 3 years old then if you came to the PI in 1965. The house where you lived is typical of the off-base houses for lease at that time. Which part of the city did you reside? Was it at Clarkview, Mountain View or maybe Diamond Subdivision? Yeah, I remember, too, there were names of the members of the family on the gates. There were service members and their dependents living in our neighborhood so I remember. There was a motocross track past the main gate and Mini-Del. I've watched some races there when I was a kid. Your film brings back lots of wonderful memories not only to those who were stationed at Clark Air Force Base and their dependents, but also to locals like me who grew up playing hide and seek or riding Huffy bikes with dependents. Thank you so much for sharing.

Thank you so much for your reply, sorry I missed responding. There were some motorcross scenes if some of my films so it must be what you're referring to. Off base we lived in Villa Rosa I think. I'm still trying to find the address! The videos help bring back a lot of lost memories, I remember enjoying it there very much it was quite an experience!

@@DollytheDoxie Hi! Thanks as well for replying. I'd think you folks are just as preoccupied as we are here with all that's happening around us. I'm not aware of a housing area known then as Villa Rosa. At the center of the city is an exclusive subdivision developed in the early 60s and is known to us Angelenos as VILLA TERESA. It's the enclave of most of the local wealthy families here then as now. There are other "villas" or villages where service members and their dependents resided back in those days: Villa Angela and Villa Gloria, which, too, are near the city proper, and VILLA SOL, which is just a few minutes drive from the main and side gates of Clark AFB. There are still quite a number of retired US Air Force servicemen who live around here. A couple of months back Dennis Rodman's dad passed on. After retiring from the Air Force Mr. Rodman opted to live here. As you might recall, his son Dennis played in the NBA alongside Michael Jordan. However, Dennis didn't live with his dad in the PI. I'm sure that you've also heard about The Platters. I didn't know until about a month ago that an acquaintance of mine here is the son of the lead vocalist of that famous group! My friend is originally from New Jersey. He arrived in Clark in the mid-70s as an airman. He went to night school on base and later earned a college degree. He went on to become a teacher at DOD Schools in the States. He is now retired and upon his retirement he chose to live here with his Filipina spouse. As a final note, I'd like to thank you for sharing your films about Clark and the way of life around here in the 60s. They bring back a lot of good memories even to someone like me who was neither a service member nor a dependent. Have a pleasant day and stay safe. Salamat po!

I was born at the Clark AFB hospital in 1965. Dad retired in ‘76, and we moved back to Angeles. Paseo de Espana was a street in our subdivision, Villa Angela, closer to the San Fernando border, around the Nepo Mart area. We still own the house in Villa. Actually going back in two weeks, first time since the pandemic started.

Was there in 1970. Lived off base but can't remember what residential neighborhood it was. Does anyone remember a round (maybe octogon) shaped outdoor/indoor shopping center in the middle of nowhere. I think it was for the poorer filipinos, but I may be wrong. It was dirty and smelled bad by U.S. standards, but my sister and I loved going there because it was authentic and real. I loved the Phillipines and the people. 53 years later and I would still love to go back!

I was a bit confused by the shots on Mactan Island mixed in. There was an air base here also with a runway long enough for B-52’s to land. Now it the second busiest international airport in Philippines.

Clark is huge, a lot of abandoned buildings, 100 year old acacia trees but still a lot of businesses inside the former airbase. And today the airport terminal 2 is improving with the latest amenities and it is almost near the kamekazee airfield going to mabalacat gate.

Before Vietnam, the USAF would send us through what was called "Snake School" (Jungle Survival School) there at Clark. What a beautiful base! Too bad that beautiful volcano, loomed over the base, blew up in 1991 and covered the base with ash. A recent video, I saw, shows the area has been pretty much cleaned up from that disaster...but there are still many building that have just been abandoned since the USAF left.

I lived in the NCO housing and used to watch some of the guys drop by chute in the neighborhood they didn’t need any help but we’d try. The base would have a tank truck fog the residential areas for mosquitoes, we lived in a cinderblock house with screened windows and a thatched roof, we had 2 house girls Cora and I can’t remember the name of the other. When we left my dad tried to give Cora his car, but she opted for my bicycle
