Another short rod that is unbelievable is the Rosa. Especially for those fishing from kayaks/canoes. Jerkbaits, cranks, tubes, sm-med swim baits, finesse jigs, topwater…it does it all. Very light and super sensitive.

In the 1000 Islands region, we rarely dropshot with a weight less than 1/2 oz, and often use 5/8 and 3/4oz weights due to current. Typical depths are from 10-40 feet. Even so, we typically use size 1 or 2 dropshot hooks and small baits. The rod action you mention is too light in the tip to present or work those baits effectively because the heavy weights dload the tip too much. What are your thoughts?

In those extremely deep or heavier current situations, you may want a heavier power or a longer rod for sure. The ZOLO McSmalls was designed and tested on lakes like Lake Champlain by Shayne McFarlin. It's that 7'6" range and handles Swimbaits, tubes, ned rigs and spy-baits with ease. May be what you're looking for. alxrods.com/collections/all-rods/products/zolo-mcsmalls-76-light-fast-spinning?_pos=2&_fid=fd5df8b0a&_ss=c

I own a ZOLO Rosa with that grip style. I don’t think you can find a better kayak rod! The Rosa does just about everything really well as a medium power fast action up to 3/4oz rod!

4.8 oz for the full handle. Wish it weren't so heavy. I'm assuming it balances nicely though. I love my ALX rods, but they're definitely on the heavier end. Kind of like Dobyns.
@ALXrods
@ALXrods 2 ай бұрын
4.8oz for a full grip (dense cork) on a 7'6" rod is pretty aggressive. That may be the first time we've ever had someone describe our rods as heavy. 😁
@Twangtown7
@Twangtown7 2 ай бұрын
@@ALXrods I think you're confused. You don't have a full grip on your 7'6 model. Also, your 7'6 model doesn't say 4.8 oz on your site. Your 7'2 full grip does though. So clearly I'm talking about the 7'2/full grip model. And 4.8 oz is on the heavier side for a 7'2 MH rod in that price point. I'm comparing it to other rods I have. For example, my 7'3 XH Expride weighs 4.5 oz. A 7'2 H Zodias weighs 4.4 oz. Also, on your site it says the 7'6 model weighs less than the 7'2 model. Is that accurate?
@Twangtown7
@Twangtown7 2 ай бұрын
Medium-heavy tip? Isn't the MH the power and fast, moderate etc the tip?
@ALXrods
@ALXrods 2 ай бұрын
As explained, the rod is a Medium Heavy + which equates to a MH with extra backbone. The top end of the rod will have power similar to a MH and the backbone is closer to a heavy power. Yes, it is still a fast action. As you know already, action is how the rod initially flexes.

I wish the split-grip handle was a little thinner and not so bulbous.
@ALXrods
@ALXrods 2 ай бұрын
Our grips are the same diameter (1.05") as the reel seat with a tapering end, so bulbous is a bit of an exaggeration as it is a streamlined design. We do agree that our grips are not very small like many rods on the market.
@Twangtown7
@Twangtown7 2 ай бұрын
@@ALXrods Where the grip meets the reel seat it's the same diameter, sure. But then as it goes down it definitely gets fatter. Just my opinion. I'm sure others like fatter grips. Not bashing it or anything, just saying for myself. I have 6 ALX rods, so clearly it isn't a deal-breaker for me. ;)

@@ALXrodsDo you think it would be better than the Deputy I'm currently using for swim jigs?
@ALXrods

Certainly will have better backbone depending on the cover you're are fishing. Some folks have used a Deputy for Chatterbaits, because of how soft the tip is, it kinda reacts like a glass rod which is used for bladed jigs.

My favorite walking bait rod - kickknocker, sammy, gunfish, etc. It’s also really fun with a swim jig. Your explanation of it not intended for heavy slop I learned the hard way. Based on the title I thought you might be introducing a fourth production model? Love all of my ALx rods but this one is my favorite. zolo crankbait rod is close second - so fun to fish with a small squarebill.

I know this video is 3yrs old at this point, but your rods are still way underrated. I bought a used Enox LSB on a whim wanting to try a premium price point rod, and I’ve used that thing now for 2 years. It’s incredibly versatile. I just bought a custom shop Zolo Dream this week from a vendor and I can’t wait for it to get in. If money wasn’t a concern, I’d probably buy every Enox and have you build about 5 customs.
