I liked the 16 mm lens footage very good compared to the 15 35 (the edges) but.. (am a photographer not into videos) for practical use the latter is so much better and it has a range and sharpness as well.. I have managed well with 24-70 and 70-200 both 2.8 till now. Thank you for making this video, it is a big investment and I could make up my mind to make the purchase… finally.. thank you once again 🙂

@vaskoobscura_19 сағат бұрын
I'm not familiar with the R8 menu so I can't comment on it. 1) You can search the index in the instruction manual maybe the menu option has been put in a strange place. 2) try putting a vintage lens on the camera maybe it can automatically detect that there is a lens without electronics mounted? 3) If you want to shoot with vintage lenses and you don't need the better auto focus in the R8 I would suggest returning the R8 and buying an EOS R. The EOS R has eye and face tracking but can't track animals and cars. Hope that helps.

Hi Vasko. I haven't even watched this before I got my used EOS R last week, but I fully agree with everything you said on this video about EOS R. I sold most of my old EF gear along with half of my pristine primes to get mine with 30k shutter count. But boy do I love it. I haven't been taking much photos lately. With a toddler, it is hard to pick up my 6D on the go. I just use my phone, because it is just there, in my pocket, 100% of the time. And to be honest, phone cameras have come a long way since I got my 6D (mark 1) some many years ago. But in the meanwhile, all my camera gears in the bag was just sitting there gathering dust. So I thought it was time I got myself a new camera. I've been looking at EOS R10 for a long time, very affordable, compact enough to be carried everywhere, has super fast autofocus and continuous shooting. I tossed between R10 and a secondhand 6D II for obvious reasons (which by the way, is not easy to come by or cheap by any means). I have very briefly thought about getting R7 instead of R10, which looked really good in paper, and then stumbled upon the full frame R8. And that's where EOS R came in. I just couldn't go to R7, for the crop factor, as all my EF lenses (or what's left of it now), was suited for full frame focal length. And R8's poor battery meant that it wasn't really suited for me on the go. Oh, talking about the battery life though, do you know what I also love about EOS R? It's the battery. I can use my old batteries from 6D on it, which saves me hundreds of dollars on buying new extra batteries of EOS R10 or R8. I remember when EOS R first came out back in 2018, it was NOT a camera people raved about in anyway. It was the single memory card slot, the multifunction slide button thingy (as opposed to a joystick), the autofocus (since improved with firmware update, I hear) etc etc. I certainly wasn't interested in buying one then. But in 2024, 5D IV sensor and the eye detect dual pixel autofocus at a very 'affordable' price (second hand) is surprisingly very attractive all of a sudden. I love how it feels on my hand, I love the touch screen, I love that literally all the buttons can be customised. I have only had EOS R for just a few days, and haven't even had a chance to take it out on a shoot, but I am hoping it will spark a new light in me to want to go out and take more photos of my extremely fast growing toddler. By the way, if you must know, I sold Canon 24mm II f/1.4, Sigma Art 35mm f/1.4, Sigma Art 50mm f/1.4, among few others to get my hands on EOS R. I kept all my EF zoom lenses Canon 17-40mm f/4, Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8, Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 And just ONE prime lens remains with me now, Canon 85mm f/1.2 (mark 1) - I loved this lens so much back in the days, I just couldn't part with it, and I am glad I didn't. It somehow seems to focus better, more accurately, faster than I remember with 6D. I know, I shouldn't have sold all those primes, because I absolutely love them all still, but with a toddler, I just can't justify going out with a suitcase full of lenses, and if I am going to go out, I will not be going out with a single 35mm lens on the body, or even two lenses, 24mm and 50mm, because it will take me too long to change the lens, I will miss the shot. I will choose 24-70 f/2.8 any day for it's versatility. Love your work. Keep making these great videos. Just about to check out your EOS R menu settings video from a year ago, although, I have already watched someone else's earlier in the week (that's how KZbin generated an algorithm and directed me to your videos) and I think I have it set up to my liking now, but you never know what you don't know. So, see you in your next video.

Thanks for that detailed comment. Having the batteries really does help and firmware updates have really helped make the camera a lot better. Also the EOS R's shutter is rated for 200k shots so you still have lots of shots to go. That 85mm f1.2 is also a beauty I would not have sold that either. Thanks for the positive feed back and the comment. Welcome to the channel. I have a lot more EOS R content on my blog including photos. I'll see you in the comments again sometime.

nope for that price it is not sharp enough sorry , im an old film trained shooter and i consider it lousy that a over 1000€ lens gets easily outperformed by most vintage manual lenses with an adapter. plus we never really cared about bokeh back then , out of focus will happen anyway ,that bokeh fixation with low image quality was a good excuse to hide the bad quality from the first digital cameras with artistic reason.🥴

Thanks for the comment. I don't find the lens soft at all. I use it primarily in studio and shoot at f8 with strobes. Maybe if you compare it to vintage Leica or Zeiss glass it might seem soft but those lenses are exceptional. But the 24-105 is a lot sharper and cleaner than most vintage lenses and I've used a lot of vintage glass. May you just used a bad copy I have no complaints with the image quality from this lens.

Why I’m struggling with r5 4K HQ fine ALL-1 files during editing ? 20 minutes long video generates almost 700gb cache after rendering in Davinci Resolve on iMac 2019. That sensor had better not have any discernible rolling shutter. I don’t get why canon would include a mechanical shutter, as Nikon did not i. the z9 and z8. Why is it needed? Some of those other features sound cool but I won’t believe any of that until Canon announces it. As a wildlife shooter, I will definitely be upgrading if Canon brings the good stuff I want. I hate how the upgrade cycles has up in front for a while and then behind for a while relatively to others. I guess that’s just how it goes.
@vaskoobscura_6 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Having a shutter in the camera is great especially for the shutter down feature. I change a lot of lenses in wedding halls. It’s nice to know that the shutter is down when I turn off the camera and don’t have to worry about dust getting on the sensor. I think that’s an advantage. But hopefully the sensor readout speed is fast enough in electronic mode.
@skyscraperfan8 күн бұрын
Isn't vibration exactly what you want to avoid by using an electronic shutter? It sounds counter intuitive to introduce vibration just to give you a feedback. I do not really care so much about a fast readout, but if it is a BSI sensor, that improves the dynamic range a lot. The R5 has some colour shifts that the R3 has not. For example if you recover shadows at higher ISO.
@vaskoobscura_8 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment. The vibration of the shutter is relative to shutter speed. If you're shooting at 125th/s or higher the shutter vibration won't make any difference. Shutter vibration is only an issue with longer exposures. Regarding the Haptic feedback I'm sure the engineers have worked on a way to create the vibration without it affecting image quality. Who knows? Maybe the Haptic feedback only works if your shutter speed is fast enough that it won't shake the sensor? I'll defiantly test out the R5II sensor against the R5 to see what the difference is. I guess we'll find out when the camera comes out. :)
