I have rediscovered this song and 'Ever After' more than a decade after listening for the first time. It's intensely nostalgic and even after all this time I still adore this. Glad to see you're still around and making music! I've got some catching up to do...

I sent this song to my ex because the lyrics I basically knew from many perceptions they had of our relationship, it generated a lot of connection for me, because inevitably the lyrics described the scenario of the separation that occurred.
@WordsOfFarewell7 ай бұрын
Yeah, I tried to show the prototypical idea of how relationships that have a difficult footing might just fall apart without anyone actually doing anything particularly wrong. It's a difficult thing to realize and come to terms with. I guess it is just part of the human condition. ~Alex

This song style-wise reminded me of Immersion/The Black Wild Yonder, more of older WoF sound. But nonetheless, another great one and the follow-up concept is nice aswell!
@NicolasAlexanderOtto8 ай бұрын
Yep, the song is from the same period of writing back around that era - I think it was written shortly after the Release of TBWY for AQW together with This Shadow, My Likeness. So it might actually be almost 10 years old - though we trimmed the edges here and there.

I've listened to the song several times since its release Alex, it's impressive how what you create connects with my perspective on reality and feelings at the moment. The influence of relationships and how we evaluate ourselves through these mirrors is a very interesting topic in a toxic scenario like we are today. I really feel like an unappreciated King in recent times, especially after suffering a certain amount of social cancellation and seeing many people condemning me for my human failings as if I were a black sheep in the pack. No matter how much we transcend the ego, there is no denying that we tend to be affected when the world does not seem to validate us, but I understand that internal validation is more important than external validation. Listening to songs like this I see that I'm not the only one in this situation and it strengthens me to have truths in my values to the point of overcoming any negative external influence. People who doubt and criticize us end up becoming stimuli for people to develop a more powerful awareness of value about ourselves, to the point that we free ourselves and finally find those who will see the due value in our being. I'm here to prove this and say that the music you've been making lifts my spirit and gives me the courage to face life's challenges with inspiration and a high sense of self-love. Thank you for that.
@WordsOfFarewell8 ай бұрын
Sorry for the delayed answer. To me honestly internal validation is something that simply does not exist. I mean without anything to relate to in terms of expectations or compare to we cannot situate ourselves in a social setting. Usually it is a case of readjusting your surroundings to better fit your needs. It's become a platitude these days, but cutting people out of your life that you feel are detrimental to your self esteem is a good course of action. However that is a thin line to walk as on the other hand many people in recent years have become thin skinned in my opinion falling into the trap of confirmation bias (very much what Alter Memory is about) and thus having a falling out over political or cultural differences that are not even worth arguing about. Constructive criticism is fairly important to grow as a person and so is re-evaluation of ones own positions and convictions - that said A Lesser King is more directed at validation through actions as in "I am suffering for another person and get nothing in return no validation no acknowledgement" and that over a greater period of time ultimately leading to serious self-doubt. I haven't written anything about coming out on the other side of such a bad situation as I am still in the process, but it might become a topic in a future song, we will see. I high appreciate your comment and hope you enjoyed reading through an listening to the song. :-) ~Alex
