My dog began urinating and drinking water frequently back in June. I took her to the vet and the urinalysis and blood panel was normal apart from dilution. I thought it could be Cushing’s and was told no, because her ALK-P wasn’t elevated. I got a second opinion from another vet who did more urine and bloodwork. She then ordered an ultrasound which showed enlarged liver and adrenals, and finally ordered the low dose suppression test. Sure enough after 2 months and $2500 in tests, my initial suspicions were correct and she has Cushing’s. Do you ever see dogs with Cushing’s symptoms with perfect bloodwork? The vet told me it couldn’t have been any better across the board, and insisted this ruled out Cushing’s.

This is such a great video. Thank you for sharing. I lost my Rex several years ago. I wanted to let him pass naturally at home. That did not happen. I waited too long, I feel like. He had always been by my side. However he had withdrawn from me. He would snip at us when we had to help him get up. I finally made the decision when, even with assist, he could not stand on his own at all. He had already not been eating well for a few weeks. I felt that anticipatory anxiety grief horrendously......but I felt that relief as well. I am glad you explained this. ....... Now fast forward, I have a 12 year old, Wilson, with LarPar. He has had 2 somewhat scary episodes in the last 2 months with his breathing. His mobility is still good. However, we cannot go on walks because of the breathing. The last episode, we had only walked in the yard like 5 minutes on a cooler night, and his breathing started stridor. He is still eating fine. So trying to make this decision is hard. But I do not want him to go into a full respiratory failure with the LarPar. Anways....I could go on and on.....but this video is really helpful. Thank you so much. I went to your website, and unfortunately no Lap of Love vets in my area.

Appreciate your video. I have a 12 year old Catahoula showing heavy signs and symptoms of LarPar (no esophageal study yet -- but he has classic symptoms). Catahoula is a breed, but was made with a number of dogs --- including Lab (hence front webbed feet for hunting in swamps). I am trying to find out more about the stent placement for LarPar. I cannot afford several thousand dollar surgery, unfortunately. I am hoping to find more information on your channel. Thank you again for this great video. My general vet misdiagnosed Wilson a year ago, when he started with the heavy breathing, with CHF -- despite a clear chest x-ray. So as the months have gone on, symptoms have become more apparent. This summer was rough here in Western KY with heat and humidity.

Thank you so much. I doubted myself I felt guilty for not having funds to take her elsewhere for treatment knowing that it will not get better and she was in so much pain I could not stand it. I wondered what she would say if I could talk to her now, but after watching your video I think she is saying thank you mom for I could not take it anymore and I am free and so happy here over rainbow bridge, you would be happy if you can see me. h I had to put my beautiful pearl dpwn 2weeks ago with bone cancer

i can understand your concern however, the tests are not stressful and the medications reduce the bad side effects of the disease. It does damage to the body - so much better to prevent them from occuring.

My Maxie is a 10.5 year old Brittany who was diagnosed yesterday. He has developed a higher sounding bark, excessive panting, and fatigue. He has lost his ability to jump up onto my bed, or get into the car. He needs to be lifted onto the bed almost all the time. I’ve been researching, reading that licorice root, honey, and cbd can be helpful in quality of life. What are your thoughts on this?

I have a 10- year old Ridgeback mix that was diagnosed with this. We first noted the peripheral neuropathy. Was told he had it but it was exacerbated by an arthritis injection he was given. Once the injection went through his system he was doing better but know he is losing his hind limbs again.

My dog has GME and Cushings from prednisone she’s in rough shape 😢 might be time to say good by she was doing so good but as the remission really worked out the drugs started killing her then taking her off the drugs tapering is making the GME worse. Her organs are taking a toll so sad to see my 3 year old Pomeranian not eating food all the time is her favorite 😢.. some days are good some not as good poor thing, been building a bucket list and have to consult with my neurologist for potential euthanasia instead of the regular chemo because she’s starting to slip and it’s so sad :(! 😭

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I know it must not have been easy. I'm currently waiting for my veterinary office to call me back for an apt. This is one of the most difficult decisions I've ever had to make. My dog is loving with us as his family, and warms up to strangers after given time and proper introduction. The issue is we can not control what others do. At anytime someone could walk up to my dog when I have my back turned and it could be fatal if it was a small child. He's bitten 5 times in the year we've had him, he's a liability and I couldn't live with myself if something happened such as a death when I could have prevented it for both my dog and potential victim. My heart is in pieces he knows I'm sad and keeps trying to comfort me which makes it even harder. If there was anything I could do I'd love to, but after all the training I've been through with him to try and correct it, at this point I'm out of options.

I just had to schedule an appointment for my 8 year old cat Ripley because of a cancer in her cheek. It has been spreading and affecting her nose recently. I knew when she starting to struggle to breath through her nose and had a tongue out of mouth to sleep that I needed to call. It was a hardest phone call I have had to make. I think having to decide a date to never see your loved one again is one of the worst emotional pains I have felt. I have broken down multiple times today just wishing there was a way to save my little cat. I am now counting time I have with her. I know I don't want her to experience suffocation. I know its the right call. Its just hard. Thank you for the video. You talking about breathing being a big one has helped me think I am making the right call. As well as the roller coaster of good and bad days. Today, while I had to call the appointment, she is having a good day. I am still back and forth in my head about it all, there is some comfort that this is a normal experience roller coaster of good and bad days. Much love to anyone else out there experiencing the same. <3

I also had two dogs with Cushings. The first symptoms were the excessive drinking and peeing and a voracious appetite. They both would wolf their food down and eat their own poop. When i took them for walks they would search the ground for anything to pick up to eat. The Lab testing to diagnose it is very expensive. I believe around $300 each time because they have to test their blood, do a steroid injection, wait and draw blood and test again. So they had to stay at the vets several hours each time. Then the medicine, Vetoryl is $75-$90 a month. if you want an ultrasound of their belly its around $700 or so. So this is not a disease that the average person can afford to treat unfortunately. When they start the medicne, the vet must monitor their blookdwork to make sure they dont go too far which is very dangerous for the dog. My dog also had the pot belly, skin discolation, loss of hair, panting, licking her paws. She lived about 10 months after her official diagnosis. My other dog is still living and is early on in her diagnosis.

So....what about a 12yr old Bugg that just all the sudden started drinking a lot a lot and peeing the bed at night. And wetting the house....zero other symptoms....urine test was fine no signs of issues other than dilute...blood work had elevated enzymes....diabetes and kidney disease ruled out. Vet [she doesn't have a regular vet due to retirement] says get an ultrasound of belly [they don't do them there so we are trying to get a vet that does]. . . She did have no shots until age 4 and was spade at age 4 [we got her at age 4] and was dx with false pregnancy. Bloodwork 2019 was normal. Is it possible it's something else? She does have a growth on her lip that needs removed. . . We didn't do bloodwork annually. They rx Denamarin.

My standard poodle killed my cat yesterday. Somehow, the cat ended up in the kennel and he went on the attack. He is extremely hyper and "playful aggressive." He killed my neighbors' chickens about 6 months ago. He has bitten family members and visitors before as well. As much as we are devastated about all of these incidents, this dog has some good qualities. He is very sweet and intelligent when he is controlled. He has an "alpha-male personality." A lot of people have told us to get rid of the dog before and we chose to keep him. We are very conflicted about what to do with him as we believe his instinct was involuntary. He is only 3 years old. This decision is something we are doing our best to avoid, but this may be the most humane answer for the good of the community, even though it would cause a second tragedy off of the first one

If it was me and I had the money I would first try an "Aggressive Dog Trainer" if you don't have the money putting him to sleep may be in order. I have a female Pit Bull who is like that with my small dogs....they are always separated with gates and pens in the house. I know some day I will have some hard decisions to make, and I keep putting it off, because I have had to put so many good natured Sweet little Angel dogs to sleep for other reasons like cancer, etc. It's painful to go through it.

I am so sorry for Hurley's loss. I understand the pain 100% and my heart hurts with you. They are so much more than pets, they are family and that makes them loved ones too. There are no words that can be spoken or actions that can be taken to stop the pain, only time. We NEVER get “over it” as some people have said. We will never forget or get over their loss, we only learn to live with the pain and emptiness as time goes on. In time, you will smile when thinking of the fond memories and funny antics. I hope you can find comfort in knowing that death is NOT the end, it's the beginning for both human and animals!! I know this because the bible tells us: ALL innocent creatures go to be with our creator God the Father upon death and that includes the animals! Only humans have sinned, all animals are innocent. Human's have a choice but not animals, they live and function on instinct. Just as people receive new bodies the animals do as well. Their bodies will be those that were before the fall of creation. When Adam and Eve ate of the fruit, everything fell from perfection. Birds even began singing in a different key! The breath of life that God breathed into Adam and Eve is the same breath of life that God breathed into the animals, except God breathed into the animals first! Genesis 2:19-25 - God created animals first and Adam named every living creature or beasts of the field! The animals were important to God. When God breathed a spirit into Adam’s body, Adam became nephesh: “living being” or “soul”. The same Hebrew word “nephesh” is used for both animals and people! Genesis 1:30; 7:15, 22 Genesis 2:7 that animals and man have the same breath of life! The bible also talks of a child placing his/her hand into the hole of an Asp (deadly snake). The animals also spoke before the fall of creation! Remember the serpent spoke in the Garden of Eden Numbers 22:28 - The donkey spoke, through God, the donkey’s tongue was loosened. The donkey could also see the angel, this shows intelligence. Are the animals closer to God than man? Yes, for they are totally innocent and know no sin! They also were a substitute until the birth of Jesus. In the book of Enoch, which is one of the lost books of the bible, Enoch speaks of the animals testifying against man at the great white throne judgment! Those who are born-again and have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will spend eternity with our loved ones who went first and that includes the animals! Romans 8:21: That the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. Luke 12:7 - God provides for animals just as for man. He knows when a sparrow falls, none are forgotten before God. Joel 1:20 - The animals cry unto God just as mankind does. Jesus loves the animals! Imagine our love on earth. Jesus has perfect love (agape love), after all he suffered and died an agonizing death on the cross for us. His love for the animals and his creation is perfect and as humans we cannot begin to understand. Proverbs 12:10 - The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but even the kindness of godless men is cruel”. Animals aren’t created in God’s image nor are they equal to humans, however we are their caretakers. Nevertheless, there is biblical evidence animals have non-human souls. Nephesh and psyche are translated “soul” for mankind, but these are also used with animals. God made certain the animals were saved from the flood, and we know from scripture they most certainly are going to be on the refreshed, new earth. When Moses and the Hebrews left Egypt, their animals went too. We need to see that animals and man share something special - we are both living beings. Something one must remember is that Adam and the animals lived happily in the Garden before the fall and will again. Don't forget, when God cursed the 2 people, the animals and whole earth fell under that same curse! That is why some animals now have a “less than loving” nature. Once we’re enjoying the new earth, they will be as they were in the Garden of Eden! Proverbs 12:12 (NLT) - We are to be stewards of animals. We are caretakers, but they belong to God, not us. For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills. Every bird of the mountains and all animals of the field belong to me Psalm 50:10-11, Psalm 148:10-13, Revelation 4:8-9; 5:13 Animals also praise God. We fail to zero in on scripture that says the “living creatures” that cry out “holy, holy, holy” are animals dwelling in God’s presence. Our Lord Jesus Christ in Revelation 21:5 proclaims “I am making all things new”. Revelation 5:13 - Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praised and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” Romans 8 - Creation itself will be free from its bondage, the whole creation has been groaning. Man sinned, animals did not but they were still brought down by human sin. That is a terrible truth of sin; it effects both the innocent and guilty. Romans 8:21 - Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. I am so thankful my mother and I were able to do this study, she died shortly after. Being human, we are selfish and want to keep our loved ones with us forever. As long as I/we are on earth, I will always miss her and wish she had not left us. I can't wish her back here out of heaven, that would be the ultimate act of selfishness!! I would not want her to suffer further because now, she is free of all her pain and is in paradise with Jesus (Luke 23:43). My mother was born-again and so am I, so I will see her again. Most of all we will spend eternity in heaven with Jesus. I look forward to that day.
