What is the maintenance for these fan blower kits?
@fireplaceblowers
@fireplaceblowers 4 ай бұрын
Since the bearings are sealed, there’s no lubrication or oiling required. However, it’s sill important to keep the blower clean, so routine care should be taken to ensure the blower doesn’t build up debris over time. We typically recommend once or twice a season depending on how often the blower is used.

@@GaryB1975 Yeah, this kit was discontinued by HearthStone a few years ago. Your best bet would be to call a few local HearthStone dealers and see if any of them have one on the shelf still. They usually sold for around $600, so pricey kits for sure. Short of customizing a mounting solution yourself, that may be your best option. We can always supply you with a "universal" kit, but it would require some customization to properly mount it.

Where can I find the thermostat sensor?
@fireplaceblowers
@fireplaceblowers 5 ай бұрын
Thermostat on these kits is located on the backside of the housing. It's the side of the blower assembly that goes into the stove. You'll find a small dime sized sensor that's flush mounted into the back of that housing. You can access the sensor by removing the blower assembly and flipping it over. Hope that helps!! Your company provides a great fireplace blower and an great example of good old American quality customer service. I ordered your GFK160-KT blower. It absolutely improved the heat distribution for our fireplace... which my wife noticed immediately. Your website had everything I needed (e.g. videos, manuals, and testimonials) before I placed my online order via your website. I had a quick question regarding my fireplace electrical setup. So, I called your customer service phone number. Your customer service phone was quickly answered and an articulate expert quickly understood and answered my specific question. After purchasing your fireplace blower, I was informed with a simple and informative email with an order tracking number and how to contact you if I had an issue with the delivery or installation. It was simple to order and to install. This was a very informative video about fireplace blower kits. Thank you.

1:45 The bottom placement does work for me . The temperature never reaches more than 90 or 100 and especially when the fan is running and taking in cold air from the front the temp drops to 90. My Fireplace fire box seem to be insulated from the bottom. May be it is because there is a millivolt vale and gas line etc. So what is the right place to stick the sensor? On the side of the firebox? May be half way up ?

I just received the blowers for my Lopi Freedom. I might caution others that the silica gel packs thrown into the box with each blower can work their way into the little squirrel cage fan. I noticed a funny noise from one as I handled it. I spotted the white packet with a flashlight and extracted it with a long nosed hemostat. I hate to think what might have happened if I hadn't detected it. I can well imagine it might have made some nasty noises, and even damaged the blower motor.

It's either the blower itself or the speed controller. I would bypass the speed controller to rule that out since it regulated voltage to the blower. If that doesn't resolve, it's definitely the blower. Bearings could be seizing up on you.

What happens on 99.9 percent of these fans is the metal magneto that is attached to the bar that is hooked up to the fan breaks lose from the bar so the magneto just makes a big squealing sound . If you take the 2 screws at the end of the motor off and you pull the motor off you will see the cylinder magneto slides off the bar . The way the magneto is attached to the bar is a very poor design . The best way to fix it is the make cut marks into the bar and jb weld the magneto into place . This will give you years and year of use without this problem again .

I have a Heat and Glo Bay Supreme, 3 sided glass fireplace which I installed in 1989. The blower recently went belly up. I contacted Heat and Glo. They said the blower used in the Bay Supreme unit is a BFK-160 and is no longer available. It looks all but identical to the GFK-160 in this video. I asked Heat and Glo customer service if I can replace the BFK-160 with a GFK-160 and they said it is not compatible. I have no idea why. The only difference I see is that the wind exhaust on my current unit blows horizontally to the fireplace base. Does anyone have any input for me? I already have a rheostat, so all I need is the blower to repair. Thanks! Dick Kauffman

This helped me troubleshoot my hearthstone champlain 8300 (blower assembly #93-57000). I bought this thing second hand and it's over 20 years old at this point. First I confirmed that the blower worked using your trick to connect the power from the outlet directly to the blower. I was fortunate enough to have gotten an old blower assembly when I purchased this thing which only had a defective power cord. At this point I knew it was either the rheostat switch or the snap switch, so I hooked each up to the old blower assembly (using the power from the new assembly kit). I found that the snap switch was defective and took that off of the old one. Everything works now! Thank you for this great video.

How do you do this if the blower is still installed in the fireplace?
@fireplaceblowers
@fireplaceblowers 7 ай бұрын
The speed controller and temp sensors in most setups are easily accessible and have enough wiring to allow them to be removed without completely pulling out the blower. So you just do one at a time and through the process of elimination, determine which of the switches is causing your issue. In some rare cases, the entire setup needs to be pulled from the fireplace, but that's the exception.

Can this be used Infront of a wood fireplace heat area? Not directly infront of the fire are but slighlty higher up.How hot can the unit get?
@fireplaceblowers
@fireplaceblowers 8 ай бұрын
It's not designed to be used in that way, but could theoretically be used on a hearth to help distribute heat. We'd probably recommend bypassing the temp sensor then on the backside, which automatically controls when the blowers turn on and off. A sensor in your case wouldn't really help. These are made with higher heat environments in mind, but not designed to be directly exposed to nearby flames. You'd have to have this far enough away from any standing flame as to not ruin sensitive electrical and wiring. Hope that helps. -Jason

Had a pacific energy summit wood heater installed. Installed the recommended blower. Quit working on auto only worked on manual. Took it back installed a new blower and it won’t even start on auto. Checked double checked the installation, all good. What could be wrong?
@fireplaceblowers
@fireplaceblowers 8 ай бұрын
Great question. In auto mode, a temperature sensor is used to automatically control when the blower(s) turn on and off. If you're having issues in Auto mode, I would check the functionality of your thermostat sensor, which is likely the culprit in your situation. It's either not getting hot enough (possibly installation issue) or is defective. Bypassing the sensor would determine pretty quickly if that's the case. Call us if you have any questions. We have the sensors available. Regards, Jason

The way you hype your products vs others; you’d think they’d come with a warranty that was longer than one year.
@fireplaceblowers
@fireplaceblowers 8 ай бұрын
Fair point. It's not really the product that's the issue here. Fireplaces "aint" exactly very hospitable environments, especially on wood and pellet applications that have very high ambient operating temps and experience a high concentration of ash and debris. So the answer to this questions really requires more context. Are you the person that cleans their blower out once every 5 years but runs the blower non-stop all season or the guy with OCD that cleans his twice a week and only runs the blowers on special occasions? There's a ton of variables to consider, so we have to make a judgement based on quality of product, expected use, application etc. Most factory OEM units carry a 90 day warranty and cost three times as much, so 1 year and a ton of savings seems to be a pretty good compromise.

These need to be cleaned on a regular basis due to the environment they're being used in. Compressed air (don't spin wheels) along with a soft bristle brush and vacuum cleaner attachment will go a long way. Access to the blowers is tight on these units, so it helps to remove the screws so the housing can be disassembled and the blowers access more easily. If you have an original kit, the rivets all need to be removed in order to open the housing. Hope this helps! Cheers, Jason
