Cool tool. Would probably work better, and have less of a chance to break it, if there were a threaded hole in the end of the piece that goes into the axle hole. That way one could thread in a screw with a fender washer so that the axle doesn't ride up, as in your video, while putting more force on the bead towards the end.

Take the riding gear off and bags off bag, flop bike on its side and drag it. It's a light bike but that capability opens doors and it's easy to go down the rabbit hole and get into some shit. Good video, struggles can be healthy, hopefully you learned a few things.

The big issue was elevation here in that last section. There was drop off on either side in the blackberry bushes so it had to stay upright. Struggles are definitely a good thing! This was my first solo stuck experience... Rode away much more aware of how to deal with a situation like this in the future. And the value of those Ladlesportadv.com grab handles and recovery straps. Definitely a cheap and worthy buy!

@TallManMotoАй бұрын
Dish soap is a great option.... I normally use silicone spray in the garage, but the point was showing it's possible.... and pretty easy.... with no lube at all on a stiff sidewall. You don't always have that luxury when changing/patching tubes on a trail. But yeah, it's a lot easier with some kind of lube on the tire for sure. I used to carry Dawn until it leaked in my bags and I had to spend half an hour hosing a bottle of it out of my side bags.😂
@someguy5035Ай бұрын
Sucks. Your choices are, it binds, or it is so loose it skips teeth when you start adding pressure. It also binds inside my wheel. Like, binds so much I had to use a mallet to get it out. Basically, it is worthless and I'd love my $150 back.
@TallManMotoАй бұрын
Again, to reply to your multiple comments, you are using it wrong. It's not the tool, it's the user. If you got it in without a mallet, you shouldn't need a mallet to get it out. That makes zero sense.

I was told the yellow dot on the sidewall of the tire is to line up with the air valve .
@TallManMotoАй бұрын
I have seen lots of different information about it, but typically I go by: if there's two dots the colors determine which goes where, if there's one it should go opposite the valve, if the moon is in Gatorade it should be three turns past a witches finger.... I learn from the internet so I'm not claiming I know; just to be clear. 😆

I don't belive that bird was hurt by the way it was walking. It's a tactic used by some kinds of birds to get your attention and keep you away from the nest. In nature, if a predator gets too close she will flap around and act injured to get the predator away from the nest. This is most common with birds that make their nests on the ground.
@TallManMotoАй бұрын
No kidding?! That's actually really neat.

@@TallManMoto I have a nest of them at the entrance to my enduro track. Every year she builds in the same spot. We put a traffic cone out there right next to it once we see eggs, so no one runs it over. But every time we ride in and out the mother bird acts like this. Here is a great example I found of one bird called the "killdeer" if you are interested kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2TLaqJseqiFjtk

Love the reality video which includes things like, "I am an idiot." Who has never said that at least once changing a tire. 😏😏🙄🙄👋👋 I like that tool for reducing the possibilty of pinching the tube. I have never had one of these tools. Recently I saw someone use a few 1 inch thick (I think that was the size) of wood say 3 inches long each placed between the tire and the rim to help keep the bead under the rim lip once this area has been installed. They use 2 or 3 spaced peices around the rim. This is to hold the tire lip down in the rim's valley during installation. I would not use silicone lube as it will remain slippery and then later the tire can spin on the rim. Glass cleaner or real rim slip lube will dry later which is preferred. I also like to sprinkle baby powder inside the tire so the tube does not chafe when it flexes against the tire as you ride.
@TallManMotoАй бұрын
I always just hit the tire with chain cleaner once I'm done to clear the silicone spray off, but it normally dries out if I forget. The Bead Buddies serve that same purpose to keep the bead from seating... I love them. Glad you enjoyed the content; I just stumble through things while the camera is running and people seem to enjoy it. 😆😆 LiKe AnD sUbScRiBe 😆😉

I've been up to Tyee Lookout probably 6 - 8 times over the years. First time was in 1997. The last few miles are pretty rocky and challenging. Going uphill adds to the challenge. The gnarly section has gotten worse over the last few years. I am working on a video from my trip up there in 2020 and the road wasn't nearly as bad as your ride. I rode the pavement all the way to the end, because it's a blast. I see in your video, the Touratech route took you on some of the dirt side roads which I mention in my video.

@TallManMotoАй бұрын
@@someguy5035 If it's binding or it is too loose, you have the spindle screwed in incorrectly. You have to adjust it by screwing it into the correct amount to get it to run smoothly. Not sure what you're referring to saying it not fitting in the wheel.... They come in multiple sizes.... and it's supposed to sit high, not flush, so it can sit above the wheel height. It works great, it sounds like you just aren't using it correctly.

@@TallManMoto Yeah, tried that. Your choices are: binding or skipping teeth. The shaft is scraped up. It was manufactured poorly. My bearings aren't messed up. My hub isn't messed up. The tool sucks. It is designed like something you buy at autozone for $20, not something that is $150+
