Hi, really enjoyed this. You'll find grayling in almost the same areas as the trout, although they do like water with plenty of riffles for more oxygen. They also feed on the bottom, but they will take dry flies off the top also.

@TheWildFly14 күн бұрын
@wobbleboxadventures OK that's cool. Well I am only fishing the rivers now as I find it more active and being mobile is better for me. Our river has some good trout and it's exciting. Trout season is closed on our river until beginning of March though. As its winter things will be more difficult in terms of fish numbers and bites on the canal. Also waiting around in the cold isn't pleasant and maybe off putting for a new angler. I'm not a member of pontypool angling but I think they still have a Facebook page if you only want to fish pontypool waters. Once the weather warms up in the spring fishing is much more pleasurable. Would you prefer to wait until spring? If you don't want to wait I know of a spot where I would be willing to go with you one day to show you the basics with some float fishing if you can get to Cwmbran? I'll have to arrange a date though on a weekend in the next few weeks

If you want to fish for pike then I'll be honest with you, I don't have much experience with lures and spinning so you may want to ask someone who knows more about that. Ive caught a few in the past but mainly on a float and worm. I don't have any spinners or floats anymore as i got rid of a load of gear but if you want to try float fishing for roach rudd and perch on the canal using bread Worms and maggots I could help you out a bit. I won't be offended if you say no. Let me know your thoughts 👍

@scottthefunkRedPill thank you! I'll definitely keep at it! The last two sessions have been tough. This river has so much litter everywhere but I'll try to remember to take a carrier bag from now on. @TheWildFly3 ай бұрын
@martincorcoran8263 Hi Martin, i bought these in a used condition as I was desperate to get back out in my local river which I probably should have mentioned in the video to be fair. Reason being, I had another pair of these whilst out in the river on a previous session when the pair I was originally wearing the whole mid sole came off the left boot and floated away down stream. I had an extremely difficult and dangerous time getting back up stream to say the least! I do like the look of these boots and they are comfortable to wear but I won't be buying these again. Im new to fly fishing and my own fault for buying used and the same pair that originally caused me problems 🤦 I agree with what you are saying though. Types of boots is definitely something I need to brush up on though so I can choose more wisely. Thank you for commenting and watching. It's much appreciated! All the best 👍

Thanks for doing the review but can you fit 2 people fishing doing nights over the winter in it?
@TheWildFly3 ай бұрын
@Cavanpikefishing Hiya, bud! Personally, I wouldn't buy this for two people with the assumption that you have two beds going in there. This is a single skin brolly system, not a bivvy, and it doesn't have a front panel to close up just in case you wasnt sure. I can't be 100% as I didn't try 2 people in it, but I think you could squeeze 2 in there depending on the width of your sleep systems, but it would be a squeeze. I have a video called "fishing a South Westerly Wind" where you can get a better view of the width, depth, and height in comparison to my chair, at least. I was using this as a day brolly, but I sold it as I was rarely using it. I'd get the dimensions of both sleep systems if you are using them, add the widths together and find a shelter based on the total base width compared to the combined bed width and the longest bed if that makes sense? Hope that helps your decision and thanks for watching and for you question! All the best! 👍🏼

@TheWildFly3 ай бұрын
@Cavanpikefishing yeah i would mate. You can get a decent 2 man bivvy for only a little bit more money, so I think you'd be better off paying that bit more. Plus, you can get an overwrap for the bivvy which will help keep some heat in and reduce condensation when its cold. I hope you find what your looking for!

@FlyfishingLwyd Yes! Your right there. These kids walked past me while I was on the glide by the fallen tree. They asked tips, I said there's no spinning on this river and to check the rules for each river you plan to go to. They apologised and moved on. Last year I saw a guy with his kid spinning using a carp or sea rod upstream of the skatepark!!!!!!! I'm not sure what he was expecting to catch in the lwyd but it's not good for the fish and certainly not necessary.

@TheWildFly6 ай бұрын
Hi Matt! This process did work. I have used the boots 3 or 4 times since this video and I've had no problems so far (my river is very rocky too so my soles are at all angles wading upstream). The only issue I can find so far is the gluing of the heel transition where the felt sole didn't stick to the mid sole for what ever reason but hasnt caused a problem yet. Some people tack the felt sole to the mid sole. Not sure if that would solve the issue but for the price of some glue I'd say it's definitely worth trying to fix them. Just soak the soles in hot water for 5 or 10 mins to make it easier to remove the damaged sole. I will get an update video done this evening if I have time so you can have a visual of what I mean. Thanks for viewing too much appreciated 🙏

Nice fishing it's not easy to get a fish on the dry this early in the season especially on the Lwyd. You said you missed a few fish? Can I suggest you control the line more with your left hand will control the slack and help you keep more in contact. Top fishing
@TheWildFly10 ай бұрын
Thank you for that tip! I will definitely work on that. I find line control tricky because I want the fly or nymph to look natural in the flow. When I try keeping in contact, I find I disturb the fly making it not look natural. It seems such an art. The river is fast I find retrieving line from upstream and letting line out down stream yo match the flow difficult too. It's all practice though and just happy to be back out after a long absence this time around. Appreciate your view and input 👌 👍
@FlyfishingLwyd10 ай бұрын
Try a furled leader 5-6ft with plenty of gink to help it float. And having a 2-3ft of tippett should help with the drift. And because you are using a 6ft rod break the runs down into smaller sections is always going to be difficult to correct the fly line with a short rod.
@TheWildFly10 ай бұрын
OK I'll get a furled leader. Can that also be used while nymphing? Shorter drifts make sense too. I did lose a fly and straightened out two hooks due to my nymph getting snagged under rocks. May try an indicator next time to help control depth too
