How does the no ratchet fit when wearing a hood and mask vs without either on? Do you size it for use with your mask on and then folding the ear flaps in keeps it tight on your head when not wearing your mask?

My stickers all fell out of my helmet long ago. I bought it around 95. But, it has the clear cap, short brim, L5p ear flaps ratchet clips, thin foam ring, original brass riveted, all brass screws, came with low sharp reflectors. How do I figure out for certain what year it is? And what it’s worth?

My question is, how many thousands and thousands of dollars do you have invested in helmets?

Can you make a video about the 5a? Maybe a breakdown of the differences between precode and different letter codes. Thank you

Just came across this video while researching this. Thanks so much. However, overtime will the leather forehead pad become brittle or damaged after being washed so many times?

Good morning from the Great State of Texas. I have never seen this tool, bit I like it. Does your department make a shorter version? What length does this tool come is? Can a person pry with this tool? Thank you and have a safe and good day

@leehart9055 hey there. We've made a 4 foot version and are currently looking into a 5 foot version as well. Standard length is 6 feet. We are updating the metal on the handle to 4130 chromoly so you will be able to pry against the handle. Should have them available in about a month.

That thing is freaking nice! If I was still in the fire service I would buy one. I think it would be nice if there was a shaft that was fiberglass too, would reduce the chance of shock if hit a live wire. I’ve seen a few departments that want either wood or fiberglass shafts and handles on their tools. But can never go wrong good ole steel.

I can understand the move to the printed eagle, saving cost and utilizing a piece already in production. But do you know why they started modifying the brim shape and raised the height of the tets? Just wondering if there was a logical reason, or if someone just liked the style of it.
@capitalcityindustries7965
@capitalcityindustries7965 3 жыл бұрын
Brim shape back then was a matter of who was reshaping brims at the time. After Cairns and Bro. was purchased, and many years down the road, brim shapes were actually studied and engineered so that in the event of a rearward fall, the downward curve of the brim would absorb more of the impact than a straighter brim.

No plans at this time - Im no fan of the 1000 series but there has been a few revisions over the years. Same with the 880 - but without actually collecting them and compiling catalogs, its hard to explain anything in detail.

Early 90s was when my fathers FD first allowed leathers. As a kid, I thought they were so amazing. Now working for the same FD, we are required to have N6A within 10 years, so my 3rd leather is on the way with the goal of keeping it 90s style. Great videos, keep it up!

Hey what’s your process of flattening these brims, I’ve heard all the lines in the book from heating it up in an over, to hitting hit with a torch or steam, and letting the brim soak in hot water and slowly bend each time. What do you recommend ? Awesome video as well
@capitalcityindustries7965

Use steaming hot water from your faucet to heat up the brim and slowly reshape it. Set in place with cold water.

Great video! I'm anxious for the next video, especially the video on the N6A. I'm curious if the crown look on a new N6A can be remolded to look more like the cuts from the 90's. I understand that the material cannot be removed, but can the whole helmet be heated up and reshaped to correct the terrible look of the crown? This is not something I would attempt, I would send in the helmet for retro brass and a reshape.
@capitalcityindustries7965

That'll be hard to do but if you need to heat it up then water as hot as you can get it out of your faucet should do.
