Just tested this in real world driving. Regardless of if the temperature readings are accurate I found the shift points lowered with the longer temp sensor in place pointing to a restriction in the trans.

I must admit, i was somewhat intimated when it came to the 700R4 transmission, the horror stories i've heard and read about because of the misadjustment of the TV cable, they werent very nice. Three years ago, i bought a running '79 2dr malibu that alread had a 700R4('91) installed, a ZZ4 crate engine and 3.73posi out back. Keep in mind that i drove the car for 30miles to bring it home, and it ran great, i decided to change the fluids all around as soon as i got it, when it came to the transmission, i pulled the pan, installed a brand new GM tv cable, and installed the holley 700r4 throttle/tv cable geometry brackets on the holley 770sa carb. I worked alone, so i used a remote camera to see what i was doing in real time, doing exactly what you were showing in this video, transmission side, having zero experience or any help, spending hours online reading through forums and watching YT videos on how to adjust the cable. Drawing on my own conclusions with a greater understanding and using common sense, i made sure to start off with setting the cable on the tight side to keep the pressure high. It shifted harshly for a bit, as i drove the car lightly around the neighborhood, i just kept adjusting the cable till it felt just right and 4th gear(OD) would hit exactly at 45mph while on the access/feeder road, and im happy to report, that same transmission is still going strong 3yrs later.

Yes there is a limit. Most pumps arent oem thickness anymore from being rebuilt 100s of times over so you just cant cut into the orifaces or pin for pressure relief. .7 is alot however

So my issue is there isn't any other place to put pin on my throttle body. So the fulcrum is too great, and it bottoms out the TV cable before it gets to the end. The only thing I could think of was using some springs so the cable would begin pulling when I give it fuel, and the more it pulls the harder it pulls against the spring. Eventually it is at full pull at the end of the stroke.
@PerformaBuiltTransmissions
@PerformaBuiltTransmissions 2 күн бұрын
Gotta change the fulcrum or the geometry will never be correct in either burning the trans up or never getting wide open throttle out of your engine.

What should I be looking for on a 2004 4l60e that when tcc is commanded, instead of rpm drop, it rises like it downshifted? It seems like a fluid leak somewhere in the tcc process. All gears work fine, shifts fine too. Thanks.
@PerformaBuiltTransmissions

any codes like p1870? The tcc works by grounding itself to activate and the black and tan wire on the vehicle harness can be used to force ground to determine a trans/ converter issue or electrical issue.

I have a 4l60e behind a 5.7 vortec. Transmission works flawless. Until it reaches about 200 degrees farinheight. Then its like a valve opens up and fluid starts pouring out of the top of the Transmission somewhere(possibly the vent tube) and the tranmission loses power. Let the tranny cool down till at least 180 and it stops leaking and power is back. I installed a deep pan and 2nd trans cooler thinking it was overheating. But will do this even in strong winds with no load. Any ideas?
@PerformaBuiltTransmissions
@PerformaBuiltTransmissions 2 күн бұрын
Make sure you ran the inlets and outlets for cooler flow correctly as well as mounted each cooler horizontal and not vertical to prevent cavitation on top of verifying the filter you used is deep and not a silver metal topped shallow filter. It is puking out of the vent tube because autos do not like 200+ degrees despite what GM claims. These are rly the only causes ive seen that will produce this scenerio.

Watching this video really scared me. Recently purchased a '65 Buick Skylark, 300 V-8. Don't know any of its history. The car originally came with the Turbine 300 2 speed auto; the previous owner replaced it with a 700R. I thought that was a good upgrade. Maybe not? When I first drove this car, it shifted like it had a real powerful shift kit installed with real hard shifts. Sort of liked it. Had to replace the carb and after the install, it now shifts like a normal car. Goes smoothly through all of the gears and into overdrive without an issue. I know I must have altered the TV cable and settings or something. Would that have caused the change? Drove it around for about 25 miles. I never do a WOT. It seems O.K. . Am I O.K.? By the way, have a '66 Buick Electra with the Turbo 400 w/switch pitch; I love it and when you put it in Drive, it's there with a positive, instant, commanding, "You are in Gear" right now, feeling. Love it. I think it was the best automatic ever! Thanks for the video. Any suggestions? JIM

Hello, I just watched your video and have a question. On the 1-2 accumulator, you recommended not to use the “red spring” from the hd2 kit because the 1-2 shift is way too hard. Currently, I am rebuilding my 4l60e with a HD2 kit from a company you didn’t really recommended. If I didn’t use the “red spring” from the kit, which replacement do you recommend? Thanks!

Is it possible for a my 4l80 shift solenoids to cause it to shudder/vibrate (feel like rumble strips) on the 1-2 shift and then prematurely shift to 3rd then 4th and back to 3rd right away. I replaced my torque converter hoping that was the issue and it was not. As far as i know the transmission has 240k on it and has only had fluid and filter changes done. I should add it shudders more as the transmission gets warmer.
@PerformaBuiltTransmissions

No shift solenoids will not cause a shudder. If a bottle of shudder fix does not help, then the iron drums and bushings may be wallowed out. Common on the 80. Try the bottle of shudder fix. Perfectly safe and works most of the time
