Good video and narration...looks like a great trail. I've been panning around Pima and Dynamite in Google maps, but can't find the parking lot where you accessed the trailhead. Do you turn off of Pima or Dynamite? Thanks.

I rode this trail to about the 12-minute mark of this video and then turned around low on water, July of 2024. Some very technical sections and I wasn't sure how far I had to go so I turned around. The ride back was fun, mostly downhill. I don't think you should ride this alone; the trail is not popular and there is no cell service for much of this trail so if you run into trouble, you could be there for a while. Congrats on finishing the trail, I didnt . I don't think I would go back; it wasn't as much fun as the effort required to ride this trail.

Thank you. Just have to deal with some short term injuries. So far, there doesn’t appear to be anything that will have long term consequences. I can’t say much, but we’re also dealing with the legal side of things which requires us to abide by our doctors orders until we are released to resume normal activities. Even if that means no riding for a while. Otherwise, it could hurt our case.

Your rides seem to always have big rocks and sand…. and I keep thinking 27.5+ wheels and tires would make things so much more fun. Great scenery. Thanks for posting.
@azmountainbikingadventures2781
@azmountainbikingadventures2781 Жыл бұрын
I thought about going 27.5, but decided on 29 based on advice from multiple advanced riders. I road 26 up til almost two years ago. Climbing had me always trying to catch up with the 29ers, but I could out corner most on the downhill. I’ll have to take a ride on a 27.5 to see what it’s all about.
@kennyness8881
@kennyness8881 Жыл бұрын
@@azmountainbikingadventures2781 Not just 27.5, but 27.5+ tires aka 650b+ tires. I run both 29 x 2.4 and 27.5 x 2.8 on the same bike. 29 is great for high speed straight line riding and covering big distances, but 27.5+ gives huge float and lower tire pressures (like 16 psi) to roll over rough stuff, and float over and through sandy stuff (while sacrificing some top speed). The tool has to match the task. Happy trails.
@clownshoesfishingclub9616

Tire selection and pressure are huge out here at the ‘Loaf. You can ride the trails fast, but there’s a learning curve for sure. That was an interesting route choice to cut your teeth on. The markers are pushed down the trails a bit to help with theft. All of these trails are cut and maintained by a very small group of unsanctioned volunteers.

One of my favourite videos of places to ride in Arizona. I live in Toronto, Canada and hv rented a house in Good Year for this coming Feb and March. I’m taking my bike with me. I would like to ride the same route you did if it’s not too far from Goodyear. Can you let me know exactly where that is and if I need a pass? Thks, Bruce
@azmountainbikingadventures2781
@azmountainbikingadventures2781 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment Bruce. I’d say you’re about an hour plus by freeway from the Gold Canyon area, depending on where, in Goodyear, you will be staying. You’re basically gonna be at the opposite end of the valley from Gold Canyon. That being said, there are lots of great trails around the valley to which I will gladly drive an hour. Also, there are some spectacular trails near where you will be. White Tanks Regional Park and Skyline Regional Park are just north of Goodyear proper. And There is also Estrella Mountain Park to the south. Spring time in those areas are just about as spectacular as Gold Canyon. There are no fees for Gold Canyon. However, there are fees to get into any of the regional parks. Currently it’s $7 per car to get in.

You might also consider Browns Ranch. It’s a 7 mile by 7 mile preserve with miles of awesome, smooth crushed granite trails through huge granite rock formations and your quintessential desert plant life. It’s like someone took all the different desert plants around the lower half of AZ and threw them all together in one area. I’d say that area would rival Gold Canyon in the spring with the added bonus of all the cool rock formations. It’s one of our go to spots for riding. Again about an hour or so away, but worth it. And there are no parking fees. Hit us up here when you’re about to come down. We’d be happy to show you around to some of the premier trails around the Phoenix Valley.

To get to Gold Canyon, take the 10 freeway to the Tempe area, then jump on the 60 heading east. Go past Apache Junction, the freeway will end and you’ll start encountering traffic lights. Head North (left) onto S Kings Ranch Road until you get to Baseline Road. There is a small gravel parking area the on the SW corner of S Kings Ranch & Baseline. You’ll have to ride a little ways east, to the end of Baseline, to get to the gate, marking the trailhead.

I’ve been looking around at getting one. Just haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I haven’t tested the camera in low light since that time. I had it do something similar a while before that. - Low light with the camera facing into the sunset. I’m daily certain however that it’s a battery issue. The picture stabilization quits when the GoPro batteries get near running out. Usually have about 5 - 10 minutes after that point til it dies.

Thanks for the vid. Since you're just starting night riding I would recommend a helmet and separate bike light. If you're riding fast you have to track turns with your helmet light since you have to look ahead. Apache wash or T100 hitting flowy sections is perfect for that. Also, carry a backup light just in case. Enjoy your future night riding adventures.

I was pretty nervous during parts of that ride. Lots of loose little rocks just waiting to slide you into one of those prickly puppies. And not to mention the hitchhikers that spin up off a tire if you even brush past one of those loose little buggers on the trail. I’ve had more than a few spin up onto an ear, shoulder, arm, etc. My partner in crime, Scott, was riding there a few weeks earlier and fell onto a hedgehog cactus. I actually wiped out recently and put my arm and hand into a dead one. First time of doing that in 20+ years of riding.

There are some tricks to getting the best quality out of YT that we had to learn on our own. As to the riding. We’re pretty much old guys who love riding and aren’t out to race or do big jumps and dangerous black diamond trails . While we do take some risks, we know our limits and prefer to stay in one piece. Our goal is to cater to the casual and intermediate riders like ourselves. There’s lots of great trails out there that don’t require expert level skills.
