I want to understand how to make the hi hat more interesting. Will comping on the hi hats get you fired like doing drum fills unnecessarily?

It’s more a genre specific thing. You don’t want to play gospel hi hats on an R&B ballad

Start slow! Always practice with a metronome. Also practice to music and grooves

Hey! I suggest using a metronome that counts time out loud. Count with it. Start slow around 50bpm
