I'll be 67 on my next birthday (should I live through the next 4 months). I take ZERO pharmaceuticals---and while I don't shame anyone who needs to, my operating procedures are based on what's best for me. OTC meds from time to time, sure. Learn that FOOD is "medicine", along with many other organic and natural energy sources on this planet. Like LOVE. Community, Laughter, Music, Alternative Healing Methods. You get the idea. Also, m'dear---Connect with GOD or SOURCE or Your Own Higher Consciousness, because we are all going to need Guidance from the Divine, which knows what's in the wind from beyond the limits of human perceptions. For instance, before 2018 I never even knew there were such things as "preppers". Now, I AM one. I got GUIDANCE, through intuition, about this time of year in 2018 "to Prepare". Not that I'm the most prepared prepper. I've had to do what I can in the face of an entirely asleep family---and push through a lot of their resistance. But, bit by bit, I've been preparing, learning to garden a bit, etc. I've even gotten a few more people on board. What will Be will Be. If you life "right" and do the best you can, well---that's all anyone can do! Peace and Blessings.

In most apocalyptic movies, they always look for the holy-grail island to make a new life, or hear of a safe place setup, its always an island. I think it would be a great option as not everyone would head to it, only the determined and resourceful. 👍

Surprisingly the coastal islands in Maine tend not to get as cold as in-land because of the ocean temps carried off of the winds. Don't get me wrong, it still gets very cold w/ snow. I have family on Great Diamond Island & Long Island, they still burn a lot of wood and propane to heat during the winter months. You also need to make sure you close up gaps and have good windows for drafts and pipe freezing prevention.

Lol... this is pretty funny. I'm 70 years old and at this stage of life I don't really give a flip about shtf. I have had a good life and probably going to be just fine because either way, we're all going to die anyway. So, you have fun preparing for whatever it is you think might come. I'm just going to sit back and relax and enjoy today because nobody knows if we're even going to get tomorrow. Take care my friend.😊

Thanks 😊 i am 80, my wife 81. Being already retired, not around people a lot, we came through Covid OK. We are both experience amateur radio operators, so we communicate well. However, I am a 100% Disabled American Veteran of the Vietnam War Era, over 50 years ago. We really have no family or people we are close to, except by amateur radio, and they are our closest friends. I take many medications, and use Insulin injections daily, which is a problem for me. We have a fairly new small SUV, and Income with no debts. I was a small arms expert in the US Air Force, but no weapons now. We have a large 1000 watt battery backup that is new, but I don't have Solar Panels. I did once obtain some medicine at a Pharmacia when we went to Mexico, but not near there now. 😕

@survivedoomsday Thanks 😊 My wife, 81, and I are both fairly technically aware, using each a PC, and Smartphones for some time. We both are Amateur Radio operators, 62 years for me, and 20 years for my wife. Actually, we gave up cable TV a couple of years ago, no longer having a land line too. I have a Tablet too, for a larger picture than a Smartphone possesses.

I’m 71 and I can do all the things that you mentioned at the end of the video. I was born on a farm, raised hunting and fishing, Built barns and houses, raised animals, gardened, and I’m a helluva cook. The problem is I live in the middle of a city. I know if anything happened, this would be a war zone. Then what? I think I would still be screwed. Good food for thought. Thank you.

My senior peeps need more powers needs when it goes out (medical devices). Also extreme temp extremes are harder on the elderly than the younger groups. Having med buffers are necessary in something for as simple as a hurricane. Our pharmacies were closed for weeks. Docs in our area are open to to provide extra days of prescriptions during hurricane season for routine meds.

A lot of staying alive is just don't Panic and use Common sense, which has already left the country it would seem. I'm 68 and i'm and old back country boy still living like I did back then. No running water in the house due to frozen busted pipes I can't get to, to fix so here i am like I was back on the mountain, Clean that Bathtub and fill it up. That can give you if used just for cooking and drinking a couple of weeks for one or two people. Filter that water, no ifs ands or butts just do it. Boil it if you need to. You can go a long while without food but Not Water, Have Rain barrels, you can treat the water with Bleach or Clorox. yes you heard right. 1 Cup to a 50 gallon barrel stir it in and keep it covered then after 24 hours just crack the top of the covering and let the clorox evaporate away for a day or 2. Clorox and or bleach is Chlorine, yep same as what they put in pools and treat some municipal waters with also. Though the chlorine they use is in Gas form. Be sure to filter if you can for solids. Have alternate forms of heat. If you have a cellar that can help to maintain heat and cool as underground hold it's temps. Dirt is one of the oldest insulations in the world. Find some Vids and test out what they teach. Teach yourself to be self sufficient. As for Fire do have a healthy Respect for this Tool of nature. It can save your life provide heat for cooking and warmth and many other things and Kill you dead if misused, and or seriously injure or maim you or others. Never use in enclosed rooms always have ventilation. I have heart meds and some meds the insurance companies won't pay for extra meds period, but have been making a stock of my most needed meds. It all depends on where you live and what area of the US you live in. People don't look down the road now days, wait till the next depression and many people will learn how this works trust me. Learn to grow what you need and have food stocks to get you through. Learn to pickle and or ferment foods and how best to do dry goods and store them you can Glass eggs " Don't know what this means look it up." You can show you are a valuable asset to. You have a lifetime of experiences and memories to fall back on. Us older generations are a huge knowledge base of information that younger generation will need. Make small groups of like minded people in your area. Make a Play book, remember things change and so your play book should help with this to. And Understand if there are support services like Fema they are not your friend. So have food, water, meds, ammo and arms stashed away to. Unless they are going to help you to a staging facility, other wise you are on your own. These are your choices to make. Trust is earned in this type of scenario. The reason I say this about Fema. after a disaster they will do a house to house looking for foods meds ammo and will disarm you. They don't care what age you are either. They will use any form of police, national guard or armed services to do this to. If you are a known prepper then they already know to look you up. Even then have cache and not just one. divide your stores. There's and old saying about Never putting all your eggs in one basket. If one is found so be it. Know who you can trust and who you can't is very important to. Being older means you should have some wisdom, use it, help others if you can. Don't argue, give them any sass or be mouthy to them just let them look and leave. They Love finding Hoarders, and Preppers This was shown to us all as to their true nature and what the government did to help after hurricane Katrina And this includes any major SHTF situation use your smarts. Martial law would most likely be in effect. And looters would also be about so learn to have eyes in the back of your head to. Understand Martial law means you no longer have any rights only what rights the Government during this period will give you and that isn't much. Now on the other hand if you are a country person help out those city folks if you can, teach them how to just plain survive, even if the SHTF you can't always do it alone, people aren't made that way we need human contact. But if you have no choice then keep your wits about you. Just a few gems and tips I have learned over my short life so far.

Many seniors have the benefit of having made a lot of mistakes in their lifetime and having learned from those mistakes. Some examples are: increased wisdom gained in evaluating trustworthiness…in people, information, etc. Also, because of decades of experience in the art of “living,” many seniors are able to evaluate difficult circumstances and provide a variety of potential solutions, possibly having a sense of “the next logical step” when in confusing and/or unfamiliar situations. No amount of books or teachings can replace knowledge gained from experience. “Been there done that”…this type of response did work…didn’t work, etc. One thing seniors often have is a knowledge of what life was like without technology infiltrating just about every area of our lives. Therefore, we have experience and confidence that we are able to survive and even thrive in circumstances where technology is compromised…including living without electricity for a time. I, personally, have lived through the aftermath of a severe hurricane. It wasn’t fun and I wouldn’t want to repeat it. But I feel confident in my ability to withstand unusual challenges. I’ve learned not to panic…or else go ahead and panic for a few minutes, getting panic out of the way…then get down to business applying survive and thrive techniques. We aren’t all dottering with Alzheimer’s disease. Our bodies may show signs of the passage of time, but, in many ways, our minds are sharper than ever!

Ask anyone if they know how to cook over a camp fire. I mean really cook, and not just holding a hot dog on a stick. My husband and I are seniors and frequently cook delicious meals on a campfire. Cast iron is your best friend. Propane grills and charcoal do not count, that fuel type will run out, and then what are you going to do. Learn how to cook over an open fire.
