While the voice is amazing.., what truly sets this performance APART.., is how she assumes the coquettish quality of the character. Every move thorougly hits the mark. And.., it's LIVE.., on STAGE.., absolutley nothing "STUDIO" about it.

It's a shame that this video pixels-out in this size, but is too hard to see in the mini-view size. I saw this YEARS ago, and there was no problem in watching it. Something has happened to the various sizes that videos are played on today. Shame.

I saw this live back in the 80’s and it was absolutely marvellous. They had the audience on their feet clapping and crying and laughing and screaming, it was truely wonderful. I played one of General Stanley’s daughters in my first ever musical when I was 12 and have loved it ever since. RIP John English, apparently his understudy only filled in for John the once and was much shorter than John and so the pirate boots came up to his armpits,

Considering they were all mic'ed it was interesting that I could not hear the melody in the harmony sections....melody is important, yes?

I adore G&S and I adore the Fabulous Singlettes. The Pinafore they did was very exciting. I have to admit, though, if I see a live performance I want it to be traditional.

Having said that, perhaps this song was marred by the fact that I hated the person playing Ruth

I saw this production live many years ago. To this day Simon Gallagher's Frederic is my favourite among many excellent Frederics.
